We carry a "pee can" in our car for the boys. It's a plastic Bisquick instant pancake mix bottle. Best thing we ever put in the trunk of our car!

This was the "pee container" that traveled with us on our last trip (and made an appearance in my last PTR along with BINDER):

I'm hearing about all these fantastic husbands. We missed the rodeo one time because I got tired of the DH saying "When are you going to buy tickets?" I never heard, "Will you?" So I refused to spend my lunch hour doing it and we missed the rodeo. Oh, this reminds me, I need to set up the appointment for our fridge to get fixed.

Just gotta say, you family road-trippers leave me in awe! Granted, I'm sure my refusal to get dvd players for the car has something to do with it - but since dh refuses to share the driving, and refuses to drive more than about 6 hours away, I'm pretty much stuck...

Our DVD player is built in and came that way when we bought the van second hand (it was a big reason why we went with that particular van though!). The DVD player rarely ever gets turned on unless it's a long trip. My boys know that being crazy and loud in the van is not allowed because distracting the driver is not a good thing, so sometimes having a distraction to keep things calm is a lifesaver.

I love roadtrips!! And I hope that this summer we'll take a long one out west - whether we're driving to our new home in California (if we end up there) or if we just go for a vacation. So much to see that you just don't get to experience unless you're driving through.

Back in the day when I was a wee youngin we didn't have such fancy gadgets as portable DVD players and game boy to keep us occupied on road trips.


It was torture! Ever time we moved we drove and our moves were almost always cross country/continent. It was the three of us crammed into the backseat of our Toyota Corolla station wagon. We played the license plate game a lot oh and the punch buggy game too. Would have been a lot less painful if we had DVD's players.

I traveled a lot with two brothers as well Lessa so I felt your pain!

Not only is having the DVD player wonderful, having a minivan and not having the boys sitting right next to one another helps a TON! Owen and Connor sit in captain's chairs and Sully is in the back.

Living where we do, it takes forever just to go short distances due to traffic so the boys are use to driving around Maryland without using the DVD player. They're pretty content listening to music or looking at books.

For our first trip to the World, my brother and I (6 & 9 at the time) rode in the back of our family pick up truck!!! It had a cap on it, but there certainly weren't any seat belts. My mom made cushions for us to lay on or prop up like a little couch. We used a chalk board to write messages to our parents in the front if we needed a potty break or something.

Now we can't go anywhere over an hour without the use of our built in DVD player.

I actually like roadtrips - just not with my children. My parents weren't brave enough to do a roadtrip with us until I was about 11, when we did a three week roadtrip from Chicago up north through Minnesota, across Canada (hitting Banff & Jasper), then Glacier, Yellowstone, Tetons, etc. We did a couple more shorter road trips, but we weren't a regular road-tripping family. None of us like reading in the car (I get carsick if I try), so we listened to lots of musical soundtracks, played a lot of word games, license plate hunts, etc. Oh, and my sister and I made up a little song for each state or province we went through, and every time we crossed a border, would sing the whole conglomeration end to end. I don't think I could do the whole thing now, but I still remember at least a few of the verses!

I was afraid to do a car dvd player because my kids watch too much tv as it is, and I didn't want to open the floodgates of begging to watch it in the car, too. My kids don't have the self-restraint to know it is only for long trips, or at least not without tons of begging at other times, so it is easier on my nerves just not to have it available.

As far as letting Evan drive on the highway......I don't think I'd get any sleep! I'd need to be bound, gagged and thrown in the trunk!

Yes I am. 5 nights in London, 5 nights in Paris and 1 day in Disneyland Paris.

We just booked everything tonight. so excited. Not airfare but hotels.


I just decided today I am driving in October to Disney for Ip-Dip II. It is cheaper than flying. Unless gas goes up so much then I will fly.

It wasn't too bad listening to Sully's as he had a few of MY songs and HSM and some Disney stuff. But, I don't think he let me use it during the drive.

I did notice that Bryan was in the passenger seat when you posted the pictures of the Dunkin' Donuts coffee.

Very cool that you're driving! Once you get past D.C. it's smooth sailing for the most part (and D.C. isn't bad if you time it right). Have you ever driven down 95 through the southern states?? You'll get a kick out of the signs!
