A (probably silly) question about sides

Okay, I read through many of the stickied threads and lots of other posts on this board. But it's late and my eyes are BURNING from reading so much info AND going over all the park's menus. I'm still trying (desperately!) to decide if it will be worth it to get the dining plan or not. Right now we have the QS plan but I might be changing it. I've been looking at menu prices to see what I think we would eat and then comparing it to what the plan costs.

ANYWAY, to my question. I did read that on the plan, if you don't get a combo meal, you get an entree, drink, and dessert. Let's use Flame Tree BBQ as an example. On the menu, it says that the 1/2 rack of ribs is served with baked beans & a corn muffin. I noticed that other sides are listed separately. Does this mean that if I ordered the ribs, I would still get beans & corn muffin, or would it just be the ribs?

I know it's probably a dumb question, but like I said, it's late and I've been doing nothing but research for HOURS every day. @_@ Thanks in advance, sorry for the long post!

You would get the corn muffin and the baked beans. Also a drink and a dessert.

You'll get anything that actually comes with the meal for the menu price. Because the beans and muffin are part of the meal you ordered, they're included. You would not be entitled to a side that is listed separately, like onion rings.

The only thing I'd add is to kind of think about why you want the quick service versus the regular dining plan. If you're the kind of family that doesn't like sitting down for a meal each day, or if you do, you only do 1 or 2 the whole trip and pretty much share entrees, then it's probably the way to go. But I've also heard of people who get the quick service, and then end up adding on 2-3 sit downs, and by the time you pay for those OOP, you have almost wiped out the savings on the quick service. Just something to think about. But I do know that some people really don't like having to make ADRs and being tied down to a park because of a restaurant--I think those are the people who really love the quick service. Good luck and have fun!

Thanks for the responses. That's what I was thought it meant, about the sides, but I just wanted to be sure.

The main reason we are considering the QS instead of the other plan is pretty much what you said. Our kids are young (3 & 6) and I just do not think we would use all of the TS credits, if any. Of course, if we decide to do even one character meal, it might be better to get that plan instead of paying OOP. But that's why I've been going over the menus. I wanted to see how much of a variety of food there was with QS or if we would be stuck with burgers & pizza every day, but it looks like there's a good selection. I'm trying to decide if the meal plan is better or if we just pay OOP for everything. For example, I'm not sure if my girls would both NEED a whole meal apiece. We might be able to just share. Of course, then I have to figure in snacks and everything else.

*siiiigh* It was so much simpler before they came up with the dining plans!

Thanks again!

Back in 2004 they had the Silver, Gold, and Platinum plans that used a point system you could use for meals, souvenirs, whatever was offered. I thought that was the most brilliant idea ever!

You are allowed what ever the meal states.
I would go with the regular dinning plan. Because character meal are so much fun for the little ones. I suggest Chef Mickeys for Breakfast and Crystal Place for Dinner. My DD always loved those two at that age, she still does when she goes with us to the world we have to eat there. (She is 20)princess:
Also sit down gives you growns up a little sit down time and some grown up fare.

If you do go with a DDP, I would get the DDP with the TS.

It was so nice to take a break from the park and sit down and eat. I really enjoyed the character meals as it saved us from standing in lines to meet a lot of characters.

do whatever works for your family and how you like to eat. For us the regular DDP was perfect but we used all our TS for sit down dinner, which is what our kids are used to at this point. Not to mention that I couldn't face CS for every meal lol. But....at 3 and 6 it may work better for your crew to do the QS plan, at that age for us, it would have been a bit of a toss up.

Either way though, you will save money if you stick to your plan, just really think about how you want to eat. I do agree though that with the regular DDP you can get some good character experiences in there that they'd likely really enjoy!

We saved quite a bit and still had lots of leftover credit, the link to my DR is below. Have a great trip!
