I'm just curious about the "growing Member interest in weekend stays" and how everyone feels about the way DVC has tried to appease those members.

What do you want to know about it? I like staying weekends to save on vacation days. I like that Disney has made weekend days less points.

I voted unhappy, but I do see how it could be good if you were ever wanting to take a long weekend trip but didn't like the high points. With the changes, it could make Friday and Saturday night points not too hard to swallow.

Driving from Maryland, avoiding the weekends was fine. Maybe I will consider weekends :confused3

Me. too. :)
We generally fly on Thursday or Friday and return the following Saturday or Sunday. With the new points charts, we're actually saving a few points.:)

That was PR BS, IMHO. They wanted to alter vacation patterns of members to encourage higher demand for weekends. Weekend nights are still more expensive and members will avoid them first. Now they'll just also have to bank and borrow (or add-on) to do the same stays they've done the last 13 years.

I won't be adding on anymore. I'm not just unhappy, I'm disgusted.:badpc:

We planned on Su-Th stays because for the next 15 years, we'd be doing spring break trips. We can't afford to fly so we'd be driving down from Michigan. We leave Friday afternoon and arrive Sunday morning. Then we leave Friday morning and get home late Saturday night, giving the kids a chance to recoup before going back to school on Monday. It wasn't so much that we avoided weekends, it's just that they didn't fit into our travel timetable. That was why we bought enough points to do Su-Th every 2 years in a 1BR savanna view. In the year's that their spring break fell into Magic season, we could do a 2BR savanna view. Now, we can only get savanna view if we book value and get our request. We can do a 1BR savanna view on the years that spring break is in magic season (only happens 3 times until 2024!). Other than that, we're doing standard views. It isn't what I planned, so I am not happy, but I can deal with it. Now that the anger has worn off and the reality has set in, I realize that I cannot change it so I just have to deal with it.:flower3:

I guess... it was obvious that people were not booking weekends. In the end this benefits more DVC members if more weekends are at full occupancy. Having a room sit empty isn't doing our DVC membership any good. So, personally I'm happy with the change. And, in the grand scheme of things... it is just a vacation. I think, of worst things.

Didn't vote - none of the choices seem to reflect my feelings.

Our typical 6 night vacations will now cost more, so I'm not thrilled. But overall, I think the changes were in the best interests of the membership as a whole.

So I decided to be neutral about the changes. :)

I voted "this could be a good thing" because I stay on weekends regardless of the points per night. That IS why I purchased DVC- so we can stay at Disney. So the small change in weekdays will even out for me because we stay weenends. I love DVC either way.

I voted unhappy because it's closest to how I feel. I'm close to unhappy because the weekend points for the Boardwalk Grand Villas went UP A LOT. At first I was thinking this could be good, but sure enough, it wasn't for what we have been staying in for the past few years.

But in reality if we have to, we will just go back to a 2 BR Boardwalk or standard view and have points left over to bank. So that's not exactly unhappy in the big picture of things.

We're fine with it-We'll never pay cash for a room after paying what we did to join. We always use points for weekends.

I voted this could be a good thing. Airfare is cheaper if you stay Mon thru Sat. The lower pts will allow us to fly in on Mon and fly out on Sat which can save us more money. :cool1:

Although we know it might be best for membership on a whole, we are not happy. We purchased our points with an extra 10 point cushion and despite this, we are now down 20 points. We will need to either 1) change our room type or 2) knock a night off.

We will not be adding on at all, so that is not an option either. I'm not sure this was a great idea across the board though, because if so many of us knock off 1 night, then that is 1 less night we are at WDW spending money. And with today's horrible economy, I can't imagine too many people are going to add-on to make up the shortfall either.

I will be interesting to see if more members are gaining points or losing points?

I voted not affected, but I agree with you. I am more neutral about it and it does affect us. But the other choices didn't apply. Our 6 nights will cost more, but I'll deal with it. I knew they could change the charts and I do see how with so many people buying just enough points to stay Sun-Thurs, causes a problem. We can't all stay Sunday to Thursday.

I voted unhappy bc we generally take sun-fri trips since we joined DVC to save points. Now our trips are alot more points.

This will not, however cause me to stop considering buying more points and travelling to disney whenever I can.;)

Will this change the way you plan your vacation days? In other words, if you used to only stay Sun-Thurs because of the really high points, are you considering weekend stays now?

I can only see where this might affect those DVC'ers who only stay Sun-Thurs - the others already book the weekends, so I can't imagine how this affects those.

unhappy is what I voted but that's not the exact word I'd use. It's troublesome for us as we did stay weekends but our stays were 9days. So now our trips will cost more points even though we were already being 'good' DVC members, at least as far as TPTB were concerned!

DH cannot extend his time off work any farther than 9days and his work week isn't a Sun-Sat week so this change presents me with some challenges. I'll just have to work the numbers out.

I do have to say that our fall trip for 2010 just went down the toilet. The kids are going to be on a year round school schedule and they break for 3wks in Oct. We had planned to go down for those 3 weeks(DH staying for just the kids b-day week), staying off site on the weekends in some other timeshare villa for cash. But now that trip would be 45 additional points. I was already banking/borrowing and stretching everything as far as I could to make those numbers but I cannot stretch another 45pts out. I could in theory do a transfer but even at today's going rate of $10/pp that means it will cost me another $450 to take the same vacation as it would cost me this year (and every yr prior).

We usually book either 7 or 14 nights including weekends in a studio, so in general there is little change for us. That said I note that SSR points for a week in choice season are up 8 points, that could affect when I travel.

Hopefully it will balance out some of the availability longer term, I have had occasions when my first choice of villa was only available on weekend nights.

It might affect you if you book 5 weeknights and ONE weekend night per trip. Our BWV stays will now cost more points.

I voted "this could be good." We are Sun-Thur DVCers typically and that was mainly before we had kids and also to stretch out our points. Now that my oldest has started school and we have to work around school schedules (and I have NO desire to go to WDW during the summer months), we can start looking at long weekend trips.
