I have been attempting to trade for a pin with a trader in Japan and given the fact that I can barely speak English, I am struggling in Japanese. I am attempting to say "Hello, would you like to trade pins?" in Japanese but I have no idea what I am doing. Is there someone here that speaks Japanese that can perhaps give me the proper words in order to avoid a potential international incident. The last thing I need is to be misinterpreted and call this person's grandmother a tractor. Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Jeff O-genki desu ka (how are you) I have two sites I go to translate English to Japanese here they are.

http://linear.mv.com/cgi-bin/j-e/dict/

http://www.travlang.com/languages/

The first one will give you a headache as you will learn there are over a hundred matches for the word like alone good luck and Sayounara (good bye)

If all else fails Toire wa doko desu ka? ( you figure it out )

I believe you will find...

Ko n ni chi wa..to re-do si ma se n ka?

Means Hello, Would you like to Trade?

I tried to go to the altavista site from my computer at work and got this message:

Sorry, you are not currently allowed to request:

http://world.altavista.com/
Reason(s): Sex Related,Illegal Drugs,Hate Speech,Criminal Skills,Worthless,Gambling,Extreme/Gross Content,Dating and Introduction Services,Cult/Occult sites are restricted.

So Eeyore64, what are you trying to lure me into?

First I get mid-life crisis Raul with his inherit practical joke instinct offering to help, then Eeyore64 sends me to a web site where I can translate the names of illegal sex-related drugs while designing bombs for hate crimes so that I can gamble on the outcome with dead people beyond the grave. Yeah, my confidence is growing by the second. Thanks Larry for bailing me out. Are those like real words or do I need to either buy another vowel or spin again to solve that puzzle? One other question, if my Japanese trader lives in south Japan, do I just stick a "ya all" at the end of every sentence? Does anyone have the phone number to the United Nations Security Council just in case this conversation gets bad? ;)

Um, I um, I, well hmm, I have no idea what that is all about! I just did a search for sites that translate months ago... book marked this one and have used it ever since-- but I've NEVER done any of that stuff jeff mentioned.... geesh, you try to help some people and they get THEMSELVES Into all kinds of trouble! ;)

I've just been sending trade messages in english and getting responses back in english. Who knew I could have turned a simple international trade into some kind of illicit transaction. I guess there's way more to this pintrading hobby than I know.

and we converse back and forth in English, but if you wish, I can give you her e-mail and you can ask
her what to say, that may help..
And Raul really does use those translator links for writing to some of his e-bay transactions...

He hasn't had the police at the door..YET...so he must be saying something right...whatever it may be..
