Day 14 (13 Aug 12) – BB & MK Double Header

Trip Intro/Index here.

A surprise today – back to the plan of a water park. Having only visited Blizzard Beach once before and not liking it (I suspect it was because Alex was younger and didn’t like the more “adult” rides here), we decided to give it another go.

So out and at the park for 8:50, we waited until the chain to the beach was dropped (“chain-drop” rather than “rope-drop”) and managed to secure three beds in the shade of trees just by the cable car station. We started on the rides straight away – two goes on Teamboat Springs, followed by a couple of goes on Runoff Rapids in short time, followed by a couple of coffees and a muffin to use up some snack credits.

A rest at base camp, then a bob around Cross Country Creek before adjourning to Lottawatta Lodge for lunch – Joanne and myself split a chicken wrap, bottle of water and a fruit cup each, with Alex having a kids cheese pizza meal, using up 2CS and 1 snack credit.

After a short rest, we tried out Downhill Double Dipper (the only significant wait of the day – around 30 mins for a 7 second ride!!), then Alex and myself onto Snow Stormers before another lap of Cross Country Creek. It was noticeable that with the one exception noted, most rides had only a 10 or 15 minute wait, so we managed to get a lot done. This brought us to 3:00, by which time we were ready to leave. As we were exiting the park, the thunder started rumbling, so maybe a good move leaving.

Originally, we had been planning to eat at Cape May Café tonight, but following the disappointment of not seeing Wishes when we were at Narcoossee’s, we decided to try and get a table at an MK resort hotel – we managed to get a 6:40 reservation at Kona Café at the Polynesian booking on Saturday, which would give us time to get to MK.

At Kona Café, Joanne and myself opted for the three course special, and we shared Pot Stickers and the sweet potato and lemon grass bisque as appetisers, Joanne had the shrimp and noodles and I had the coconut chicken with Asian greens, whilst Alex had the shrimp and scallops. For dessert, Joanne and myself both had the coffee pannacotta, with Alex having ice cream – we all really enjoyed the food as it made a change from the other restaurants, and unlike at Chefs de France, we had moderated our lunch so that we weren’t still full. The only downside to the meal was the server – very uncommunicative, and didn’t even tell us about the three course option or the smoothie on DDP.

Anyhow, finished by 8:00 we caught the monorail over to MK where the crowds were already gathering for the Electrical parade at 9:00. We detoured to Tomorrowland, where Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger had fastpasses for 9:00, and we caught a showing in Monsters Inc comedy Floor show before returning to use our FPs.

We then managed to get a good viewing spot for the castle just outside The Plaza, at the top of the preferred viewing area.
Again, the light show was excellent, and we had an excellent view of Wishes. We then nipped back to Buzz Lightyear as we had managed to get more FPs for 9:45-10:45, after which we made our way back down Main Street to catch the launch back to the Polynesian, and we were back at OKW just after 11:00.
