A Pink Pixie Princess - Complete!

A League of Their Own is in my Top 10 (maybe Top 5) movies for sure. Now I want to go watch it again.

I feel like if you're gonna be a dork...you may as well be a festive one :)

Nice job racking up all those miles. Especially on a "WDW hangover" AND "race hangover" double combo of death. :crazy2:

I love your festive dork outfit! That "sweater" is super cute!

I'm glad that your back is feeling good and you didn't have any pain ... at the end of the day, getting through the run pain free is what matters most!

Shannon, just wanted to share after a few days of mulling over the new dragon kit, I bought it. Can't wait to get it when I am back from Disney.

So I ordered the sweater vest on 11/15 and it said I should receive it on 11/23 (and the post office always delivers it a day later) and I was sad because I wanted to use it during the Turkey Trot on 11/24, but I was pleasantly surprised to see it arrive on 11/19! Can't wait!!!

Still jealous of those knit tights. I love my blue capris, but I still really want those tights. Hopefully one day the ISO list will make my dream come true. :D
I love those tights so much. That was my first "unicorn" when I discovered INKnBURN and I was lucky to snag a pair!!
Your training sounds like it's going great and I'm so happy that your back is feeling good. Sorry that you had some calf pain during W&D, but seems like that's resolved as well, so YAY!!!
Calf pain was weird for sure. I still don't feel as good as I remember feeling when I was training for Dopey last time but i'm happy with where I am not compared to earlier this year!
A League of Their Own is in my Top 10 (maybe Top 5) movies for sure. Now I want to go watch it again.
It's just an excellent film. ::yes::
I feel like if you're gonna be a dork...you may as well be a festive one :)
I agree!! :wizard::santa:
Nice job racking up all those miles. Especially on a "WDW hangover" AND "race hangover" double combo of death. :crazy2:
OMG right...that's the worst!!
I love your festive dork outfit! That "sweater" is super cute!
Why thank you! Anything to get myself more excited about the run, right??
I'm glad that your back is feeling good and you didn't have any pain ... at the end of the day, getting through the run pain free is what matters most!
Exactly. Just gotta get the miles in at this point!
Shannon, just wanted to share after a few days of mulling over the new dragon kit, I bought it. Can't wait to get it when I am back from Disney.
Oh yay!! I hope you love it! I like the shirt a lot but I REALLY love the capris more than expected. :)

Yay! Isn't it so cute? I had to exchange mine because the size I originally bought was a little big, and I got my correct size on Friday - love it!

I'm glad you got it in time - did you do SmartPost for your shipping? I have the Soaring kit arriving today (!!) and it's just been sitting at my local FedEx since Friday after using 3-day shipping! I never get stuff earlier than expected...:crazy2:

Dopey Challenge Training
Week 11 (11/14) - 32 miles completed

MO: yoga
TU: 4 miles
WE: rest
TH: 4 miles/yoga
FR: 8 miles
SA: yoga
SU: 16 miles

So first, a couple of random things I have been thinking about for January...

  1. Outfits. I thought I had them all planned but I feel like I shouldn’t commit to anything yet because who knows how the weather will be? Feels weird not to have them 100% decided with less than 1.5 months (!!!) to go. Actually, I would say I have nothing definitively decided yet, which is unsettling for me as a self-proclaimed uber planner...what is life?! I very well may just end up bringing alllll of my INKnBURN and deciding the night before each race...hmmmmmm…..
  2. Updates to my packing list that I posted earlier, re: coffee
    1. I talked about this in my trip report with DVC and coffee in the rooms - I actually think I need to bring my own coffee (and coffee filters?) to the resort, since I am renting points again. :rolleyes2 Or maybe just accept that I will need to buy more - but then THEY WIN. I need to think about that
    2. I’d posted my list and had “disposable coffee cups with lids” as an item that I bring from home for race weekends - people responded and asked why I brought my own since there are some in the room, so I left mine at home. The room, in fact, DID NOT have disposable cups and lids. I went to get some from the QS location but the CMs were a little weird about it, so I’m back to bringing my own :confused3
Anyway...running.

Tuesday’s run was pretty good...I definitely was still recovering from Sunday but overall it went well. My baby toe felt weird later in the evening (left side, of course, because the left side of my body just cannot stop being annoying) and it turned out I had a sizeable blister right on the end. I’m not sure when this happened...like maybe it started on Sunday and "fully formed" on Tuesday or something? I was afraid I’d have to skip a run or two until it went away, but it didn’t bother me at all on Thursday during my run, which was a relief. Walking around at work in my boots was WAY worse for it. Blisters are annoying and I don’t like them! :sad2:

Another note about Thursday: I felt so good on this run that I decided to extend my intervals, running 4 minutes and walking 1 minute. This went great! It got tougher as the run went on but I felt pretty good overall! :yay: But then...another blister!! :guilty: This one on my left big toe! What is going on.

In case it’s not clear from my schedule this week, I’m back to "OMG I LOVE YOGA ALLLL OF THE YOGA PLEASE." This after saying I may cut back...I have such a short attention span when it comes to cross training, I guess. :upsidedow But I made it to yoga 3 times this week and really enjoyed each class! One notable thing (only to me, I'm sure) - headstands are getting easier. In yoga when you do a headstand you aren't supposed to kick up really hard, you're supposed to be able to lift yourself up using your core. This is getting better for me (I hesitate to use the word "easier" because it's still hard - so we'll say "better" instead), so that makes me think that my core is getting stronger - which is important, I think, for a healthy back! :thumbsup2

Friday was an up-and-down day. It was 73 degrees out during my run...crazy!!

I don't know why this picture is so dark, because the sun was out in full force and I was loving it.

31098056445_7621ae23ac_z.jpg

But the run itself wasn’t very good. :confused3 It was a struggle for the last half or so and I felt sore after it was done! Really weird since my 7-miler last week went so well.

The next day, the weather took a turn. 73 on Friday, but in the 30s on Saturday and Sunday!! :sad1: Conditions for my run on Sunday - 35 degrees and 30 MPH winds!! "Real feel" temperature was 24 degrees...and there was occasional snow!!

I think I would have been more okay with the conditions if not for that wind...

31013370262_368afb8233_z.jpg

This run was tough. It snowed for part of it, and the wind was just brutal. I almost cried a little at one point - I friggin’ hate running in extreme, cold wind - but managed to hold it together. After struggling through my 15-miler last weekend, I dropped my running intervals down so that I was running 2 minutes/walking 1 minute. I just looked and surprisingly, my overall average pace was only 5 seconds per mile slower in doing this compared to what I did for last weekend's 15-miler, and I felt a LOT better during this. So it was the right call, and possibly what I’ll stick with for my long runs going forward. I still was struggling toward the end (which - I've just sort of accepted that, at this point, that my back isn't going to feel perfect for the entirety of these looooong runs), but considering the conditions (which I heard the weather guy on the radio describe as “obnoxious wind” - accurate), I will call this one a win!

I got home and felt pretty awful, but after a GLORIOUS hot bath and some food, I felt pretty...good? :cloud9: Typing this now (Monday morning), I still feel pretty good. Just a little soreness in my legs and back, but overall, a huge improvement compared to last week’s long run.

Just 2 more long runs longer than yesterday's!! :dance3: Sooooo close.

Great training week!! Well done on your runs and in getting back into the regular yoga routine. I hear you on the crazy weather. I ran on Thursday morning and it was in the upper 60s at 5 am. Ran in a t-shirt and skirt and then yesterday for our 15-miler, it was 27 degrees when we started at 7 AM. At least I didn't have to deal with wind and it was a beautiful, sunny day. Why can't I live somewhere that it's always in the low to mid 50s when I run? Does that place exist? :(

:cheer2: Your training looks like its going great! Keep up the good work--so glad your back is better!

Yuk for the blisters!

And man, ya'll have some cold weather up there! We ran this weekend in 40-50 degree weather with a north wind-I'm not complaining b/c I'll take that over 90-100% humidity any day of the week and twice on Sunday! It just makes me laugh b/c what we think is cold down here is mild for "you guys." :rotfl2:

Loving your posts!

Seriously great kits and club tops InB!!

Weather ... grr.
Bringing everything just a good idea in general. There's no such thing as packing too much running clothing.

Yay for longer intervals! That's awesome!
But what is with all the blisters?? That's so weird.

Awesome that you're back in yoga all the time! It's great that you can see the improvement in your handstands - even if it's still a little hard, any improvement is an amazing thing!

Definitely a win!
I'm glad you found an interval that seems to work well for you! It's definitely tough to drop down to a shorter running interval, but if that's what works ... go with it.
Also ... "obnoxious wind" is the worst. I can handle cold, but sometimes the wind just does me in. Not a fan.

Just 2 more long runs longer than yesterday's!! :dance3: Sooooo close.

AHH! So close!! You're going to be a second-time Dopey finisher in a few weeks!

Very excited for you!

Regarding the sweater vest, I chose the cheapest shipping option - not sure why I got it so fast since it took over a week for my run run run shirt and the tracking said I would receive the sweater vest on 11/23. But I'm not complaining! :)

Yeah I've never know them to hand out the paper cups for free at the QS locations since that's what you buy for coffee from the spigguts/drink machines, so makes sense why they looked at you weird, but hopefully they explained instead of just being snippy CMs.

I almost cried a little at one point - I friggin’ hate running in extreme, cold wind - but managed to hold it together. After struggling through my 15-miler last weekend, I
I 100% agree that cold wind sucks, especially for long runs so awesome job!! I figure the wind is good resistance training if you manage to not freeze to death first :)

Yay for training and boo for blisters! Can you believe the crazy change in temperatures? I did a 5K with our youngest on Sunday and it was super cold! He's 9 and very tiny, but a cross country runner and always runs warm so we really didn't bundle him up enough. It was so cold that, at one point during the race, he put his hand up (he knows how to signal if he needs a walk break) stepped to the side and started to cry! So he can relate!

Funny about the race outfits, because you never know what we'll get for the race days. I've just decided to bring a base outfit with various matching layers - so I have tights, a long sleeve and arm warmers that I could put over/under each outfit if necessary. But my outfits aren't very creative in the first place (more "inspired by" with a themed bow in my hair than a costume) so that's easy to do. Also, lots of space blankets!

Also, college visit last month was great and we'd be thrilled if he ended up in the Cleveland area - it's literally at the very top of the list! We loved Cleveland - so many similarities to our own home city but with Playhouse Square!

Finally, love those tights!

Great job on the 16 miler!! Truly - that 16 mile training run, by yourself, in horrible conditions is way harder to get thru than 26.2 in glorious WDW! If you can do that you can do Dopey again!
We all know January in Florida can be anything from "pretty darn chilly" to "why oh why is it so freaking hot and humid in January!". SO have a few outfits lined up pending weather - with all your beautiful InB that shouldn't be a problem! And definitely bring the disposable coffee cups - I am all about having MY coffee before I leave the room. It's important :thumbsup2
Keep it up! I always find that about 6 weeks out is the toughest - still have more long runs on the calendar, the race still seems so far out, and you are just kinda getting tired of the training. Push through it and trust that the training will get you another Dopey medal!

Can I ask you whether you like running? I know that's a weird question but I took it up about 5 years ago (only 5k runs) and it took ALOT of willpower to go out for each run and I didn't really enjoy it that much, but I can't say why. I couldn't decide if I was rubbish at it because I hated it or I hated it because I was rubbish at it. (Best was 27.06 for 5k but wanted to vomit once it was over I worked so hard). Recently I've tried again (for weight management and cardio-vascular health) but again I really have to push myself to go out. I've been going three times a week and keep wondering if one day I will finally say 'wow - I love this'. What's your story?

I'm obviously not Ariel484, but I did want to chime in since I think I know exactly how you're feeling. I really don't like running, but I also really don't like exercise in general. I choose running because I know it works in terms of weight management and it's free (races not included, obviously!). The thing is, I do actually kind of like the races. I like the atmosphere, the medals, tshirts, occasional free stuff, etc. I used to sign up for everything just to expand my medal collection and also to force myself to train. Until recently, I would never skip a race, so I knew I would force myself to train and therefore force myself to exercise! I have only gotten slightly faster over the few years that I've been running, and I've stopped caring about it. I think if I enjoyed it more I would actually get faster.

Recently, I've found myself kind of "getting over" the whole race thing. I don't have room for more tshirts, the medals are still cool but less special to me, and it's expensive! I am only going to sign up for things that I truly find to be fun. I may never run another half-marathon (definitely never a full again!) and I'm okay with that. The only real downside is finding the motivation to exercise more, but I'll figure it out. Or I'll just say @$!% it and accept that I'm old enough to not care about those extra 10lbs :)

Thanks! Yeah, we're having another crazy swing this week - tomorrow we're having 60-degree temperatures again! So I'm changing my running schedule to take advantage, because the weekend looks nowhere near as nice...

I would love to live someone where it's always low-mid 50s for running weather...that would be perfect.
:cheer2: Your training looks like its going great! Keep up the good work--so glad your back is better!

Yuk for the blisters!
Thanks! Yeah, I don't know what is up with the blisters all of a sudden?! Very weird.
And man, ya'll have some cold weather up there! Yeah, it can get intense! I'm hoping that the REALLY bad weather will hold off for just a few more weeks...that would be perfect. And I agree, the crazy humidity is the worst!!
Loving your posts!
Thanks! :yay:
So, I just have to comment on this....of course you can't plan your outfits yet, who knows what InknBurn will put out before Marathon weekend?!?
Seriously great kits and club tops InB!!
Right?! You get me. ::yes::
Weather ... grr.
Bringing everything just a good idea in general. There's no such thing as packing too much running clothing.
Exactly! :thumbsup2 Some over-packing, yes - but I would rather be prepared for anything!
Yay for longer intervals! That's awesome!
But what is with all the blisters?? That's so weird.
I know, I really cannot explain it. All of my socks are in good shape, so it's not that...I really feel like something with my form/body has changed after this back stuff. Any time I have issues it is almost always on my left side now (the side with the nerve issue), and that's where the blisters are. It's interesting...but mostly annoying.
Awesome that you're back in yoga all the time! It's great that you can see the improvement in your handstands - even if it's still a little hard, any improvement is an amazing thing!
Yeah, now I just need to get over the part where I get "into" it and suddenly I think "oh sh!t what am I doing?!" and then I fall... :rotfl2:
Definitely a win!
I'm glad you found an interval that seems to work well for you! It's definitely tough to drop down to a shorter running interval, but if that's what works ... go with it.
yeah, I sort of hate how "slow" it makes me feel, but I just need to get over myself at this point. 16:00/mile is the main goal and at least it keeps me under that! :confused3
Also ... "obnoxious wind" is the worst. I can handle cold, but sometimes the wind just does me in. Not a fan.
GAH, you're right. Maybe I need to amend my above statement - is obnoxious wind worse than humidity? It very well may be. :scratchin
AHH! So close!! You're going to be a second-time Dopey finisher in a few weeks!
EEEEEK  Can't believe it's almost here!!
Very excited for you!
Thank you! :teeth:
Regarding the sweater vest, I chose the cheapest shipping option - not sure why I got it so fast since it took over a week for my run run run shirt and the tracking said I would receive the sweater vest on 11/23. But I'm not complaining! :)
That's interesting. Sometimes I feel like USPS doing things quicker (since SmartPost uses USPS) but with FedEx they will hold it for extra days based on when it is "scheduled," even if it seems like you could just get it the next day. Annoying! :confused3
Yeah I've never know them to hand out the paper cups for free at the QS locations since that's what you buy for coffee from the spigguts/drink machines, so makes sense why they looked at you weird, but hopefully they explained instead of just being snippy CMs.
Yeah, I don't remember them being snippy, just very confused as to why I wanted cups. And then I got just one when I wanted 3-4...oh well! Now I know to pack my own.
I 100% agree that cold wind sucks, especially for long runs so awesome job!! I figure the wind is good resistance training if you manage to not freeze to death first :)
Ha, that's a good point about the resistance training! Seems like all of my non-windy runs should be simple now...SEEMS like it, anyway...:rotfl:
Yay for training and boo for blisters! Can you believe the crazy change in temperatures? I did a 5K with our youngest on Sunday and it was super cold! He's 9 and very tiny, but a cross country runner and always runs warm so we really didn't bundle him up enough. It was so cold that, at one point during the race, he put his hand up (he knows how to signal if he needs a walk break) stepped to the side and started to cry! So he can relate!
Oh no!! Your poor kiddo! :(

We are having ANOTHER temperature swing this week! Back up into the 50s/60s...woohoo!!
Yeah, I mean - last time I did Dopey we were in the 30s for the 5K and by the time it was marathon day, we were in the 60s I think. You just never know!!

I need to order some space blankets from Amazon...
Also, college visit last month was great and we'd be thrilled if he ended up in the Cleveland area - it's literally at the very top of the list! We loved Cleveland - so many similarities to our own home city but with Playhouse Square!
Oh yay!! :yay: Did you go inside any of the buildings at Playhouse Square? They are so beautiful!
Finally, love those tights!
Thanks! :teeth: They are the Miko tights...completely sold out, unfortunately.
Great job on the 16 miler!! Truly - that 16 mile training run, by yourself, in horrible conditions is way harder to get thru than 26.2 in glorious WDW! If you can do that you can do Dopey again!
Thanks! That run was truly a mental test. I am pleased that I didn't quit, because I REALLY was thinking about it!
Yes, coffee is totally necessary! I am taking no more risks!

I am going to have to try to stuff all of my InB into a carry-on...I wonder how that will go?? :upsidedow
Keep it up! I always find that about 6 weeks out is the toughest - still have more long runs on the calendar, the race still seems so far out, and you are just kinda getting tired of the training. Push through it and trust that the training will get you another Dopey medal!
I think you are onto something with the "6 weeks out" theory! I can totally relate to the long runs, getting a little sick of it, etc. Also, my appetite has been going crazy this week...constantly hungry. So annoying!!
Can I ask you whether you like running? I know that's a weird question but I took it up about 5 years ago (only 5k runs) and it took ALOT of willpower to go out for each run and I didn't really enjoy it that much, but I can't say why. I've been going three times a week and keep wondering if one day I will finally say 'wow - I love this'. What's your story?
So I saw that you posted this yesterday and I thought about it all night and this morning (while on the treadmill!). I am not sure if I can come up with a good/coherent answer - but overall I guess I would say that yes, I do like running. I don't think I completely love it like I did a couple of years ago, but most mornings I don't have to work hard to convince myself to drive to the gym and get on the treadmill. Some mornings, yes, but not all.

When I started, I hated it, but it began as a tool for me to help lose weight for my wedding - that alone wasn't enough, though, and I had to change my diet to actually get the results I wanted...but once the wedding was over, I stuck with the running. I'm honestly not sure if I would have if it weren't for runDisney races, though. For a few years I completely loved racing because I was getting faster, and it was fun to set new PRs, but I haven't done that for awhile now...

I think what keeps me doing it is runDisney races, the fact that I feel better when I am running regularly (cardiovascularly, keeps my weight in check, etc.) and it has become a stress reliever for me, a time where I can be by myself to just think. At this point it is a habit - the period where I couldn't run at the beginning of the year was very hard for me, and I did miss it. I have gotten to the point where I don't feel like myself if I am not running regularly.

Having said that, I don't think it is for everyone, and I think that is okay - if you don't like it, maybe you can try something else to stay in cardiovascular shape? Biking, swimming, zumba, etc.?

Sorry, I have no idea if this is helpful at all...I hope it is?
I'm obviously not Ariel484, but I did want to chime in since I think I know exactly how you're feeling. I really don't like running, but I also really don't like exercise in general.
I can relate to a lot of this...I would say I am over the races - local ones for sure. If it weren't for runDisney requiring proof of time, I'd probably be completely done with local races.

I used to feel like I needed another race on my calendar to stay motivated to run, but I'm not sure I need that anymore - I just feel better when I do it. :confused3

It does help a lot. thank you for taking the time to send such an honest reply. I used to swim then had to stop over 2 years ago and then had surgery on my shoulder in January 2015. That's when I lost my fitness and I've found it hard to get it back alongside getting older (47). I am going to WDW next week for 16 days and try to go out for an early morning run to help burn off some of the excessive calories from vacation so I will persevere until then and re-evaluate how I feel when I get home.

Wow, you're racking up those miles girl! I can't wait to see what outfits you plan for the races! Crazy that it is coming up so fast!

Also, hubby and I finally started Luke Cage last week and we LOVE it! I'm seriously obsessed with the music that is always in Cottonmouth's club. We only have a few episodes left, and then I'm going to be ready for more Jessica Jones . . whenever that will be! :)

I had no idea you were posting regularly again...damn notifications, so I'll be following on from here. Training sounds like it's going super well!
