LAUREN! LAUREN!!
LAUREN!
Ahahaha. Sorry.
The gym shoes at work crackdown happened for us about a month ago. I didn't wear mine very often but I did on casual fridays because I have gray sketchers that aren't very sneakery. But my boss laid down the law. I'm glad we were ok wearing them back when I commuted by train as I'd often "forget" to take them off and put on my heels/dress shoes. Now I'm in squishy bottomed flats that are seriously not cute...but comfy. I suggest going on a squishy bottom hunt (ok, that sounds weird) instead of flat shoes...cause I know the pain of dang flat shoes. I'm a target shopper and their shoes are the worst for cushion.
I don't think I would have done very well with 10k on a humid day like that. I barely survived a 5k in those conditions. So big ups to you. Although the heat rash and chafing sound kind of not great.
I understand the internal struggle race morning of trying not to push too hard & also wanting to beat a certain time. It's rough to treat each race separately when you know what you have been capable of in the past, etc.
Oh and I will sneak peaks now and again on blind miles during races just to make sure I'm not waaaaaaay off pace. I can't help myself. But I try (not always succeed, but try) not to make it freak me out.
the guy who was screaming...UGH. I actually liked when I heard that an official triathlon rule is if you have unsportsmanlike conduct before, during, or after a race...they pull your bib and you are automatically DQ'd or DNF'd. I support that. No adult needs to be yelled at. No reason you can't just nicely say "excuse me but there is only one line." And then stew about it internally but not create a toxic situation.
I do really like your idea about doing a playlist with increasing intensity of music. I may try that for a training run to see if I like it.
And one last thought.....the Olympics are are making me sooooooooo tired. But come next year I'll be missing their existence. though I did miss the beam final due to Bachelor in Paradice viewing last night, so I'm officially a bad American.
