Love this... especially the wallet!!!
Wallet is fab, I highly recommend it. ::yes::
YAH!!!!!!!! :yay:
That's so exciting!!!!!

Where are staying? How long?! SO MANY UNANSWERED QUESTIONS!!!!

I can't believe our trip is so close now! Only 2.5weeks! EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEK!
French Quarter, and just for the weekend - it'll be a whirlwind!! EEEEEEK!
Not that I'm an expert of any sort but I would recommend you keep the appointment, you've come all this way and even if he does just tell you that it's a waiting game at least you have that as solid advice from the professional and you're not just left playing the guessing game but if not and he has some recommendations for you then you really want to get them... Obviously there may be other considerations such as cost etc.
:scratchin You do bring up some good points. I have to admit...I totally forgot about said appointment so I haven't thought about it much! :rotfl2:

Ok... I'm pretty sure I got this one

 :rotfl2:

BWAHAHAHA that one took an unexpected turn!!
He is too cute!!!
:lovestruc
I was only just thinking about getting some Disney music to listen to in the build up to our trip, is Disney Parks Loops like a playlist on spotify or something??
They may have some of them on spotify, but if you go to that website I linked, whoever runs it has a COLLECTION. It's basically the background music that you hear when you are walking through the parks. The website has it for different areas - Soarin' Queue, Epcot Entrance Area, etc. Solid stuff!
Mr. A has some sound advice there!!
He's a good one, that Mr. A. :)
LOVE watching all the gym stuff live! I'm a bit disappointment with the Olympics so far, I don't know if it's the same for you but it's really fallen flat here like nobody is talking about it and when I've watched it I've been really sad to see the stadium practically empty all time... There was such a massive buzz 4 years ago and I guess part of that was the location being London (not that I lived here at the time but I did visit) and this year there just isn't. I completely forgot about the opening ceremony and several times at the weekend I was thinking there is nothing good to watch not realising of course the Olympics was on!
I'm disappointed with the coverage so far. I HATE how here, they show 2 rotations of gymnastics right at 8PM and then nothing again until like 11PM - past my bedtime!! Incredibly frustrating since that's the main sport I want to watch. I couldn't get the app to work yesterday, I don't know if it was overloaded or what, but I tried it 4-5 times and it kept crashing. Infuriating.
On a light note...

WE ARE GOING TO DISNEY

SO EXCITING!! We arrive Saturday 27th and MK is open until midnight (the hours were extended only recently) so we'll be heading straight to the park! EEEEEEK! I'm sure you're going to be a busy bee but if we happen to be in the same place at the same time I'll definitely say hi!

Ugh sounds frustrating alright! I've been watching most of it on catch up but then it's just highlights really and I like to watch the full thing!

AHHHHHHHHH!!!!! :cheer2::banana::bounce::dancer:party:

FREAKOUT!! Sorry I couldn't resists... haha

Hi! I've managed to read through the whole thing (in multiple sittings though!) I'd like to get through your other race TRs eventually too. I'm signed up for my first RunDisney event in the 2017 GSC + 5k! My mom did it last year and decided she wanted to do it again and go Coast2Coast, so I was informed that I would be doing them with her (apparently, I will run for Disney trips)

Sorry to hear about the ups and downs you've had with injuries - injuries are what took me out of running 10+ years ago when I finished my college track career. I was a half-miler plagued with shin splits and stress fractures and eventually just ended up throwing javelin because I couldn't run anymore. Now, I'm running again, and still dealing with some shin issues as I'm also a competitive dancer. I never thought I'd run again - period - and some shin soreness aside, it's going fairly well. I'm trying to convince myself that the only goals are to 1. do it injury free, 2. finish all the races and not get swept, and 3. have fun. It's still hard sometimes to remember that I'm only 3 weeks in to my training plan and that I haven't run seriously in over 10 years - your brain always remembers what you *could* do.

Some days are better than others and my fiance is great at trying to keep me positive. Looking forward to keeping up with your journey - I don't know if I'll do a pre-TR or TR, but I'll try to check in over here and stay up to date!

I'm also a HUGE Disney purse fan, though I do love the Dooneys. As for running clothes, I'm a lululemon junkie, but mostly picking up the older, higher quality stuff on eBay and resale groups. Not sure the InkNBurn is my style, but I love the BB8 tops you picked up along the way!

Mr. A brought up the appointment as well the other day. At this point I am leaning toward keeping it, just to check in.

No worries! Definitely check that site out, TONS of good Disney music!

Yeah, at this point I've accepted that I just need to wait until I have access to the entire competition - either via replay on the NBC app or on DVC the next day. Makes it so much better that way!!
FREAKOUT!! Sorry I couldn't resists... haha
Le freak, c'est chic! ;)
I would love a review! I'm staying there for W&D-first time at this resort, actually first time not staying Deluxe!
Okay, SO - I did stay at French Quarter in 2013 for Wine & Dine, so this will be my second time there. I did really like it quite a bit in 2013. It was very small and almost park-like, so the setting was nice and relaxing. The small part was nice because you're ALWAYS close to the lobby/food, and there's only one bus stop (unlike Riverside and Coronado - the other two moderates that I have stayed at - where there are multiple stops within the resort). I like all 3 of those resorts equally but French Quarter just having the one stop makes it edge out Riverside and Coronado, in my opinion. From what I remember, we did share a bus with Riverside to get to Epcot and had our own bus to Magic Kingdom - somehow we didn't make it to DHS or Animal Kingdom during that trip, so I can't speak to transportation time for that. And we had the boat to Downtown Disney. We didn't visit the food court much, but I did get beignets there once (walked from Riverside - YUM). I know the food court is getting refurbed now, so I'm not sure I'll have much more insight into it after this trip. Here's the link to the TR where I stayed there (also for Wine & Dine): I'm definitely a deluxe snob but I'm happy to be staying at French Quarter again! I'll give you an updated review when I get back. :)

 Welcome!! Thanks for checking out my ramblings. Which California race are you guys looking at?!

Oh no! Shin issues are the worst, I hope that it gets better for you soon. :(

I like your goals. That is definitely the attitude that I have adopted for Disney races (along with "take pictures"). Stick with it!! That's great that you think things are going "fairly well" already!!
Some days are better than others and my fiance is great at trying to keep me positive. Looking forward to keeping up with your journey - I don't know if I'll do a pre-TR or TR, but I'll try to check in over here and stay up to date!

Yes, I looooove the Disney purses. Even though I'm not buying Dooneys anymore, I still love to look at them. :)

I know what you mean about the Lulu quality. I have a couple of their older pairs of capris, and I got a newer pair of tights awhile back and they just weren't the same! Had to unload them on eBay...shame. :sad2: The older capris are WAY better.
Best of luck this weekend! :D
Thank you!! And thanks again for the training plan and race strategy. :)
I can't wait to hear how the race went today!
As a random LOL I saw this and thought you would get a chuckle out of it View attachment 187630
It went...okay. :confused3

I saw that picture floating (LOL PUNNNSSSSS) around Twitter! It's, like...so weird but so funny!! I really think he is DONE this time. What a career!
Hope the race went well!
Thanks! It went okay...I think I did the best I could have. :confused3

Monday, August 8 (45 minutes @ Effort 1)

Ack, it's race week! Still not sure how I feel about this one. Mostly I am annoyed that I have to go to packet pick-up on Friday. It's 45 minutes away, and there's no race-day pick-up (normally I hate picking up the day of, but I totally would have done it this time). So I'll need to drive 45 minutes there, pick up, 45 minutes home, and then do it all again on Saturday, except run a 10K in between. Sigh. If they'd offered an option at registration to have materials mailed for an extra $10-$15 or something, I 100% would have done it. This all seemed like a good idea a few months ago! ;)

Anyway...run was okay today. I did my back PT stuff twice yesterday and feel a TON better today. When Mr. A was scolding me for not keeping up with PT he pointed out that in the past I have seen results really quickly when I pick the exercises/stretching back up, and that is 100% true. So I really need to keep up with this! While my lower leg and back felt better, my quads are still sore from my run on Saturday. Like I said, I cheated and looked at my stats from that run - I did get past the 8-mile mark on Saturday, and that is the furthest I have run since the Disneyland Half Marathon in September - almost 1 year ago (already?!). :yay: Otherwise I've run a handful of 6ish-milers this year...so apparently my body just isn’t used to longer distances again quite yet (and higher weekly totals - this is my highest weekly total for this year, too). Goofy training will be interesting! But I have to say...I'm getting excited for it. Just knowing how far I got the other day, and that it didn't totally kill me, is a confidence booster.

Oh, and also...the Olympics is TOTALLY screwing up my sleep schedule already. I forgot how frustrating it is to watch things in prime time. Like - here's the first two rotations of gymnastics. Now here's 2 hours of swimming (OMG. SOOOO much swimming. I know Michael Phelps is the GOAT, but COME ON). Now here's the last 2 rotations of gymnastics...AT MIDNIGHT. Not cool NBC, not cool. Also, 4 years later, the diving commentators still get on my nerves.

But that’s okay because OLYMPICS!!! <3

Tuesday, August 9 (rest)
So, a couple of things that carried over from yesterday to today, since there’s no run to report on...
  1. I am ashamed to admit this, but I have somehow managed to hold on to the few pounds I gained on our cruise...almost 2 months ago! This week I decided to really step up my game and actually try to get rid of them (I think I thought they’d go away if I just "ate normally" went I got home...nope. Apparently I need to actually put some effort in - sigh). I thought snacking less and bringing a healthier lunch to work would do the trick, so I made myself this awesome salad to take for lunch yesterday - spinach, lettuce, red pepper, carrot, some shaved turkey, 1 slice of turkey bacon, a little bit of avocado and a hard-boiled egg. It tasted pretty good and I was so proud of myself...and then about an hour after eating it, I became suddenly, somewhat violently, pretty sick. UGGHHHH. Getting sick at work is the worst! I was able to hide in my cube for another hour or so until I decided to go home, feeling weak and somewhat shaky. Mr. A got me some chicken noodle soup for dinner, and I thought I was recovered, but when I woke up this morning I was back to feeling off. I don't think it’s bad enough that I need to stay home, but BLECH...that's what I get for trying to eat a little healthier! Needless to say, I do not have a salad with me for lunch today, and I REALLY hope I feel better by Saturday!
  2. I'm already annoyed with the Olympics coverage, which I mentioned a little bit yesterday in my blurb - so I've taken to just accepting that I will need to wait awhile to see things, and have been watching things the next day on DVR/NBC Sports app. IN YOUR FACE, NBC PRIMETIME! I think this is how I need to do things going forward, especially since they seem to LOVE showing the same 2-3 sports each night...normally that works out okay for me since I’m mostly interested in gymnastics, diving and swimming, but beach volleyball bores me to tears and they seem to show that one a lot. And with them showing every single freaking heat of swimming every night, I've gotten a little sick of watching it. I know tonight will be bad with the gymnastics coverage since that’s their highest-rated event along with swimming...they will tease and tease it and show it really late and I just cannot stay up until midnight to watch!

Sigh...

Wednesday, August 10 (45-minute run @ Effort 1/Effort 3/Effort 1 pace)
Glad to get this one done. Just one more (easy) run before Saturday’s race!

This run was not the best. I'm still feeling the effects of getting sick on Monday, and I'm pretty sure we all know that running when your stomach is feeling less than 100% is not fun. :( The Effort 3 portion went okay (though I'm sure my Effort 3 for today was not as strong as previous weeks) but by the end I decided it was best to walk a good portion of my final 10-minute Effort 1 portion to keep my stomach a little happier. Oh well. At least I didn't become ill all over the sidewalk!

I wore my new Dahlia shirt for this run...I am planning on wearing it for Saturday's race (don’t worry, it'll get washed first :thumbsup2) so I needed to take it for a test run first so as not to violate the "nothing new on race day" rule! Elementary school art class taught me that yellow and purple are complimentary colors, so the Bee skirt won out to pair with my new top.
28908364381_081de1e1c1_z.jpg

Also...I thought it felt crazy humid while running today - sure enough, 92% humidity! All of the windows in our house were totally fogged up. BLECH! At least it was overcast and somewhat cool out!

And lastly, NBC defeated me yesterday. I was planning on watching the women’s team gymnastics and synchro 10m diving when I got home on the app, but the stupid thing kept crashing. :( And I forgot to set my DVC to record at 8PM. ARG! Thankfully the app was working MUCH better today, so I watched the women’s gymnastics team final and part of the synchro before going to bed.

Speaking of bed...I felt super run down today and ended up not going to yoga. I think between getting sick on Monday and not getting enough sleep this week, my body was just dragging. I'm planning on trying to get to yoga tomorrow!

WINE & DINE UPDATE
: I FINALLY booked Mr. A's flight today! It's still more than I wanted to pay, but our 50,000 bonus points from opening a Southwest credit card showed up in my account, so I went ahead and booked the flight on points. I'm still planning on checking the flight daily to see if the price drops, but at least this way he has a seat.

Now that this flight is booked, I went ahead and emailed our flight information to the DVC point rental place we are using for Magical Express...and another piece of trip planning has been checked off the list! Now I just need to make FP+ in September and pick out some race outfits. :) And continue to train, I guess.

So, I had an issue pop up today...we got an email at work reminding people to adhere to the dress code, and there were certain sections highlighted. One of them mentioned proper shoes to wear into work, and I can't remember exactly how it was worded (I'm typing this out today, Sunday), but it made me think that maybe my wearing my Brooks to work a couple of days per week is frowned on. I'm still working on getting my boots back into rotation every day (this week I'm wearing them on Monday/Wednesday, where the last two weeks it was Monday/Thursday - so 1 less day "off" in between), and I'd rather not get into trouble for something so stupid as violating the dress code, so I dug out these nicer flat shoes and work them to work today. MISTAKE. They were eating my heels almost instantly, and now I have a blister. Great. Just want I need before my race!

In better news - Mr. A is DONE with his classes!!!!! :cheer2::cool1::dancer::worship::yay::banana: Just one more summer to go and he'll have his masters!

I'm still feeling wiped out from the week, so between the fact that I've barely seen Mr. A this week and am not feeling 100%, I bagged yoga yet again today. Uh-oh! Bad Shannon.

One last thing - today I got an email from the race organizers for Saturday, warning us of less-than-ideal weather conditions for the event. Strong chance of thunderstorms, so there's a possibility the race will be canceled or delayed. If it's not delayed (pulled directly from the email):

We expect to start the race under red conditions with the event alert level being high. Temperatures are expected to be in the low 80s near the final hour of the race with humidity at 75%. In the event of red conditions, we strongly encourage you to exercise the following precautions:

Red (High):

  • Slow your pace
  • Rest periodically if needed
  • Do not over extend yourself
  • Listen to your body
  • Make sure you take in adequate fluids on the course; carry additional hydration with you
  • We recommend participants at increased risk for heat collapse withdraw from the race
There is a half marathon also going on with this 10K (everyone starts together and then the race splits at some point), and I am SO glad I didn't sign up for the half! Yikes!!

Friday, August 12 (20-minute run @ Effort 1)
Last run before the race! Good news - the blister I got during work yesterday did not bother me AT ALL during the run. In fact, I totally forgot about it and didn't even bandage it up or anything before heading out. That's a relief!

I came back home to shower and then headed out for packet pick-up. The drive was easy and boring (and more like an hour long, instead of 45 minutes like I'd originally thought...sigh). It was a small packet pick-up - just three tables for the sponsors. I was in and out in about 20 minutes, and that was even with me taking my time to look at the tables and whatnot. Oh well. At least parking only cost a quarter at the meter right outside of packet pick-up!

Also, we had some visitors in the backyard. There's a second doe out out of the picture. They hung out in our yard all day! You know there's just deer poo everywhere...sigh.
28365574554_385a9a36d7_z.jpg

I spent the rest of my day drinking a TON of water and made homemade pizza for dinner. Laid out my race outfit and did a good job of not getting nervous...

Saturday, August 13 (10K Race)
Race day!

So I wasn't trying to put a ton of pressure on myself for this race, but I have to admit - I did want to beat my 10K time from May.

My alarm went off at 4AM and I was out of bed by 4:30. Sheesh, that's like Disney race times! I made myself coffee and used my awesome mug from Marathon Weekend 2015:
28909028111_24cd596e4a_z.jpg

I was on the road by 5. The drive was, again, quick, easy and boring. I was parked by 5:50AM (ate a bagel with peanut butter in the car) and it was about a 5-7 minute walk to the starting area. This race started at ended at the Goodyear World Headquarters, so the blimp was out today!
28908366541_d70cb8791e_z.jpg

I got into a porta-potty line and met @Krynn in line! I was NOT expecting to have a DISmeet before this race, but it was very cool! Thanks for saying hi!

Blimp again! It was scrolling good luck messages to us runners!
28698840770_53a152450a_z.jpg

Krynn headed to the corrals and then THE WEIRDEST THING happened. Okay, so there were, I don't know, 13 or so porta-potties where I was waiting - 3 lined up together, then an empty space of about 10 feet, and then the rest of the porta-potties. So it was clear that we were all in one big line, and then the first person would get their pick of the 13 or so porta potties. It was maybe 6:20 at this point, and suddenly some ladies came up and cut the line, saying that someone in the back had told them there were two lines (there really clearly was one line). A couple of people behind me grumbled, but this guy ahead of me lost his you-know-what. He started yelling at these ladies, asking them what they thought they were doing cutting everyone else, what made them think they were so much more special than the rest of us, and said to "get your a---- back there!" I mean, okay - they were cutting, but they were also clearly new runners. I don't say that to sound elitist, but you could just sort of tell that they were. I'm sure it was an honest mistake and if someone had told them calmly that there was one line, it would have been fine. But this guy really, really overreacted. I would have cried. They did not cry and I don't think they went to the back of the line, but it was SO weird. I've never seen something like that in all of the races I have done.

So anyway, I used a porta-potty (and didn't get screamed at) and headed to the corrals (overheard one of the ladies telling someone how she was yelled at...I mean, she WAS wrong to cut, but that guy was too much) - which were self-seeding. I lined up near the 10:00/mile section. And then had a sad realization - my headphones were broken! One of the earpieces had cracked and was hanging by a wire. I'd made myself a little Disney loop playlist - one song with a slower tempo for miles 1-2, a little faster for 3-4, and faster for the rest of the race - so I was disappointed not to have the music. Eventually I figured out I could still use them - the earpiece actually does still work - and they didn't bother me during the race...but I'm going to have to bust out the super glue, I think.

And we started at 6:30AM on the nose! The first two miles were hilly (a couple of short, steep hills) and there wasn't much going on in the way of spectators or entertainment, which wasn't a big deal. At one point we ran over railroad tracks and a runner to my left tripped and fell - I and everyone around stopped and she was helped up and thankfully was okay!

So per @DopeyBadger I was supposed to take these first two miles slowly and not look at my watch or mile marker clocks, and I did a good job of that - it helped that the mile markers didn't have clocks! ;) But 20 minutes in, my watch beeped - the "eat" and "drink" alarms I'd set for last weekend's 100-minute run were going off! Arg. So I did sort of know what my pacing was. Oh well!

After mile marker 2 we were back near the starting area, which had a food truck selling Philly cheesesteaks. Normally those smell so good but not when you're running! And from here on out there were lots of spectators and entertainment (a couple of bands and some DJs), which I thought was pretty good for a 10K. There were 3 fluid stops - I took Powerade at the first, water at the second and one cup of each at the third.

The weather was ROUGH. By the 5K mark, I had a headache - I assume form hydration issues? - was totally drenched in sweat and could feel that my bra was chafing me...UGGGGHHHHH. I saw one person off to the side around here being attended to by race personnel - I assume due to the weather - but overall people seemed to be coping okay. The first 4 miles pretty much flew by for me and I was feeling really good.

Approaching mile marker 5, we headed into Goodyear's test track for a lap. I didn't like the speedway at WDW, and I didn't like this lap here - it just felt like it went on forever! And at this point, a girl was next to me screaming, "Lauren! LAUREN!!" Eventually I realized she was screaming at me and had to tell her that no, I am not Lauren. :teeth:

Things seemed to unravel for me during the last 2 miles, which felt like they would never end. I think the heat was really getting to me at this point - up until now I'd only taken pretty short walk breaks at the fluid stations, but I took an extra during the last mile. And my watch had beeped at me to "drink" again, at what I knew was the 1-hour mark...and I knew I wasn't going to beat my time from May. :( I was disappointed but just really, really wanted to be done.

I crossed the finish line at just a minute over my time in May...today just wasn't my day, I guess. I know I said I wasn't going to report my times here anymore, but honestly...I did the best I could, so here it is:
Total time: 1:09:57
Pace: 11:16/mile

I'm really not sure what to think of these results. I know the conditions played a part (May was cold and snowy, but I run way better in temperatures like that compared to what was going on during this race - 77 degrees with 84% humidity at the finish, but I swear it felt hotter! Saving grace was that it was overcast almost the entire time) but I guess I was sort of hoping to see some improvement. Maybe that was too much to ask for since I haven't been doing speedwork or anything...ah well. I finished and wasn't attended to by medical, so I guess that's the real victory here. And except for occasionally back soreness, I felt pretty good, and like I said - I think this was the best I could do today. :confused3 I guess I know better what to expect for my 10-miler in a few weeks (eeeeeek).

At the finish we were given a banana, Powerade, water, a chocolate milk, and small towel soaked in icy cold water - heavenly! I think I could have gotten a beer and maybe a Philly cheesesteak as well (included with my race fee?) but neither appealed to me. I also got a blimp medal...excuse the crazy hair:
28698843360_7dfe84847d_z.jpg

Overall, I think this was a really good event. My two main complaints are that I had to make the long drive twice to get my packet and do the race (I guess I could have gotten a hotel...but why spend the money when I could put that toward DISNEY?! :teeth:), and I didn't exactly love the course. Really just the test track area. But otherwise, definitely a good event that I would do again!

Drive home was quick again, but I was getting tired! I got home and had a PAINFUL shower - seriously, this was among the worst bra-area chafing I have ever had after running. I didn't scream in the shower, but I was close! I'll be hitting the Neosporin hard over the next few days. Mr. A took me out to a delicious post-race breakfast and I took a glorious nap at home - and then later discovered that in addition to the chafing, I had a heat rash pretty much all over my torso! I think I've only ever had that happen one time after running, so that was surprising. Apparently my skin did not appreciate running in that weather!

Sunday, August 14 (rest)
Bagged yoga AGAIN. Not good!! I had to admit - I just didn't want to go today. I wanted to sleep in, and also, I wanted to give my skin a break from sweating for a day. The heat rash and chafing are better, but they're still there. I don't feel too sore either, so that's good!

I hereby vow to hit the yoga hard next week!

Running Blind - Week 6

Sigh...in better news, both Mr. A and I got INKnBURN mail today! Traction tech shirt for him, Dahlia kit for me. I’ve been so excited to get this one!

Mr. A took a break from studying (2 days left!!) to grab a picture with me...what a guy! :lovestruc

I wore my Dahlia shirt for this run...I am planning on wearing it for Saturday's race (don’t worry, it'll get washed first :thumbsup2) so I needed to take it for a test run first so as not to violate the "nothing new on race day" rule!

Okay, so there were, I don't know, 13 or so porta-potties where I was waiting - 3 lines up together, then an empty space of about 10 feet, and then the rest of the porta-potties.

Eventually I figured out I could still use them - the earpiece actually does still work - and they didn't both me during the race...but I'm going to have to bust out the super glue, I think.

So per @DopeyBadger I was supposed to take these first two miles slowly and not look at my watch or mile marker clocks, and I did a good job of that - it helped that the mile markers didn't have clocks! ;) But 20 minutes in, my watch beeped - the "eat" and "drink" alarms I'd set for my 100-minute run were going off! Arg. So I did sort of know what my pacing was. Oh well!

After mile marker 2 we were back near the starting area, which had a food truck selling Philly cheesesteaks. Normally those smell so good but not when you're running! And form here on out there were lots of spectators and entertainent (a couple of bands and some DJs), which I thought was pretty good for a 10K.

Congrats on the race! I feel like the temperatures absolutely played a role. Personally, with the temp and dew point listed (temp = 77 and dew point = 72; T+D of 149), I can typically see my pace effected by as much as 15 to 30 seconds per mile. That means to put your May 10K of ideal conditions against this one we get the following:

May - 1:08 (10:58 min/mile)
August - 1:09:57 (11:16 min/mile) with heat adjustment is a 1:06-1:08.

So looks like to me you're in better racing shape today than May when taking the difference of weather conditions into account. Well done! Congrats "Lauren"! o_O

Not cool NBC, not cool. Also, 4 years later, the diving commentators still get on my nerves.
The commentators are so annoying this year - I'm getting a little tired of it :P But I've still been watching everything I can, so there's that.

I think this is how I need to do things going forward, especially since they seem to LOVE showing the same 2-3 sports each night...normally that works out okay for me since I’m mostly interested in gymnastics, diving and swimming, but beach volleyball bores me to tears and they seem to show that one a lot.

I went and watched most of the women's gymnastics all around final online because I was worried they would wait forever to show it like the team final. It wasn't quite as late, but it was still really frustrating. And the lack of men's gymnastics made me really annoyed - I wanted to see that!

made myself coffee and used my awesome mug from Marathon Weekend 2015:
So do they often have running themed mugs? Because I might need one of those - and are they different than the rapid refill mugs you get with a dining plan? We are thinking about one for February which is why I ask :P

I'd made myself a little Disney loop playlist - one song with a slower tempo for miles 1-2, a little faster for 3-4, and faster for the rest of the race - so I was disappointed not to have the music. Eventually I figured out I could still use them - the earpiece actually does still work - and they didn't both me during the race...but I'm going to have to bust out the super glue, I think.

Thank you so much for the links - I now have area loop music for my runs and I'm so excited!

And congratulations on your race - I think with the weather conditions you certainly have improved more than it feels like right now, even though it's hard to not make a time that you had wanted.

Now I want a beer AND a cheesesteak. But you can keep the banana.

LOVE the Dahlia InB kit. I ordered it too. :lovestruc I also ordered the light speed shirt for Chris. He wore his club rock star shorts this weekend and really liked them and I think that shirt would go well with them. I like Dahlia with both the bee skirt (hey, bees love flowers, right?) and zen. I thought about getting Chris that traction shirt but he tends to like lighter colored shirts more.

Yay for getting Mr. A's flight booked and congrats on his finishing up another semester toward his masters. One more summer sounds awesome! It will be over before he knows it.

Pretty cool having the blimp at the beginning of your race though. That whole porta potty thing would have made me very uncomfortable. I get being frustrated at line cutters, but I don't see the point in getting so bent out of shape that you are yelling at people.

Congrats on the race and I like that medal! Seems to me that given the conditions you did pretty well. I know that the last couple of years for me, heat and humidity just kill me and my time suffers as a result. So, well done and good luck with hitting the yoga again this week. I've been a total loser on doing anything but the bare minimum of running lately and it's totally showing. :( I blame the Olympics. :D

Well thanks! That makes me feel a little better. Hopefully I'll get better conditions for my 10-miler in a few weeks? o_O Like maybe temps will suddenly drop into, say, high-50s with no humidity? A girl can dream.
Congrats "Lauren"! o_O
I legit think she was mad at me for ignoring her. :rotfl2: Sorry?
The commentators are so annoying this year - I'm getting a little tired of it :P But I've still been watching everything I can, so there's that.
Yeah...you didn't ask but my reviews on the commentators...:goodvibes

Overall I don't really like the primetime gymnastics commentators that much. I like Tim Daggett because I think he really knows what he is talking about - I know people find him over-critical but I think he just points out things that the judges are also looking for, so it sort of helps explain the scoring (which I keep thinking I have a handle on, but I don't). I don't like Al Trautwig AT ALL, he's like the cheesy cliche guy of the group and says some pretty questionable stuff every once in awhile. I really like Nastia Liukin - definitely a fan of hers, I LOVED her "ice queen" persona in the 2008 Olympics - but I feel like she's not really adding much with her commentary. The trio they have on the NBC sports app (Jonathon Horton and Courtney Kupets Carter, along with some other guy, forget his name) I really like - they seem more like friends hanging out and having fun, but they also say insightful stuff during the events.

Diving...Cynthia Potter annoyed me during the last Olympics, especially how she fawns over some divers. And I feel like when a dive goes poorly she doesn't always provide insight as to why - maybe that's more interesting to me as a former diver than the average viewer. :p The commentators they have for streaming don't seem to say much beyond "that was a good entry!" or "oh, a little over on that one!" so...they're a little meh. Mr. A gets to listen to my commentary on both the diving AND gymnastics, lucky him! :teeth:

Swimming - Rowdy Gains shouts alllll the time!! He gets super excited! I sort of like him but I wonder if he has any voice left? But I do think it's funny how excited he gets.

I like the commentators for the marathon and the track & field events :thumbsup2

And those are my reviews...LOL!
I went and watched most of the women's gymnastics all around final online because I was worried they would wait forever to show it like the team final. It wasn't quite as late, but it was still really frustrating. And the lack of men's gymnastics made me really annoyed - I wanted to see that!
Watch the men's stuff online - I did! Men's floor was GREAT to watch - I really enjoyed the Brazilian gymnasts in particular. You could tell how much it meant to them to be there and they were SO happy. It was pretty adorable.
So do they often have running themed mugs? Because I might need one of those - and are they different than the rapid refill mugs you get with a dining plan? We are thinking about one for February which is why I ask :P
NO - this was NOT a dining plan mug. This is a mug you would get in the parks at one of the little snack kiosks. My BFF saw someone with it on Twitter or Facebook and we found it in the Magic Kingdom, at a kiosk in Tomorrowland. I forget how much it cost but we got them filled with hot chocolate!

I don't know how often they do mugs like that, but I'm definitely keeping an eye out from now on!!
Thank you so much for the links - I now have area loop music for my runs and I'm so excited!
Woohoooo, enjoy! I listen to Disney Parks Loops ALLLL the time - especially when making dinner and running my long runs. :)
And congratulations on your race - I think with the weather conditions you certainly have improved more than it feels like right now, even though it's hard to not make a time that you had wanted.
I hope so! I mean - I KNOW I have, I guess it was just frustrating not to actually see that reflected in the clock, you know? I'm such a left-brained person, I need to see the numbers improving! :upsidedow
Congrats on giving it your best!
Thanks John!
Now I want a beer AND a cheesesteak. But you can keep the banana.
I didn't even eat the banana. :confused3 My stomach was just like "...could you not."
I know! Can you believe she kept the banana and skipped the beer? What is this world coming to?
*hangs head in shame* Neither were appealing to me right after the race! The only thing I wanted to do was take a shower! I'll drink an Oktoberfest later to make up for it. :drinking1
Yay! You will love it, soooo pretty. I'm not sure if I mentioned it but I managed to snag a pair of the Rockstar shorts for Will on Facebook and he really likes them too! I think having the pocket for his phone is a game changer. :)
Yay for getting Mr. A's flight booked and congrats on his finishing up another semester toward his masters. One more summer sounds awesome! It will be over before he knows it.
Yes!! I will be so glad when he is done, these short, packed semesters are pretty draining for him! I guess it's better than trying to go to classes during the school year, though.
Pretty cool having the blimp at the beginning of your race though. That whole porta potty thing would have made me very uncomfortable. I get being frustrated at line cutters, but I don't see the point in getting so bent out of shape that you are yelling at people.
Right?! That was the weirdest thing! When I was standing in line I was thinking that I probably should have arrived 10-15 minutes earlier just to give myself some extra time, so maybe this guy was getting anxious because the race was starting soon, but he WAY overreacted, and even though they shouldn't have cut the line, I don't think he had any right to yell at them like that. It was definitely very, very uncomfortable.
I'm so with you, the heat and humidity are killers! I'm so glad that it was overcast, I think if we'd been in full sun I'd probably still be out there trying to finish! :faint:

You're NOT a loser. I think you're awesome! :goodvibes

I too blame the Olympics for my general laziness lately! Having said that, I was watching the marathon yesterday and the NBC guy said "welcome to the second week of the Olympics" or something and I got sad because it's almost over already! wahhhh.

@Ariel484 Amazing job on the 10K. Considering the conditions and still recovering from an injury, that time is nothing to be ashamed of! Heck, it's faster than the time I finished my 10K in last weekend. You're doing great. I'm sure once fall comes (if it ever does - I know it's only August, which is the heart of summer, but I'm so over it!) your times will start showing your progress. Keep it up!

As for the Olympics, first of all I also can't believe it's almost over! It always goes so fast! I also agree with you on NBC's coverage. It is extremely questionable sometimes. They didn't even show any of the men's pommel horse final last night during primetime! But I do love swimming, so I'm glad we got to see that live. And I'm also fortunate because I have been able to watch coverage live on streaming, so I haven't had to wait for them to air gymnastics to see it for the first time (I just like rewatching it since the quality of the video is so much better than streaming!)

Thanks so much. :) I was really hoping to see a lower number than what I did in May, but I guess it just wasn't in the cards! And yes, bring on fall!!

Wow! You'd think they would have shown that since a US gymnast won a medal! :confused3

I like watching swimming too, but I think they OD'd on it by showing every. single. heat. Every night!

The streaming has been awesome. It's really been a game-changer for me - I like watching the events I want to watch all the way through in one sitting, and I like seeing athletes from other countries, too!

I expect my shin issues will likely continue to come and go, but I think I'm getting to a point where I'm managing them fairly well. We're going to be doing Tink in 2017 and this weekend I ran a 10k with my mom and fiance and my dad brought up starting to plan for Light Side & Dark Side in 2018!

This weekend was nasty weather wise for us too (I'm in Michigan, so a fellow midwesterner) race day brought low 80s with 99% humidity:scared: and was my first ever 10k. I've been officially running for 3 weeks, so I wasn't quite ready, but ended up with 1:12:32. I've submitted for my POT for Princess, but am hoping to drop it a bit in my second 10k in September (and hopefully more manageable temps - it was so hard to breathe in that heavy air!) Well done on your 10k time - the heat and humidity definitely has an major affect on output + still dealing with injury and sickness. Nothing to hang your head about at all!!!

I bit the bullet and ordered my Beauty and the Beast Dooneys this morning - crossbody and wristlet headed my way ... fingers crossed for decent placement!
