A Party for Grumpy_Disney_Dad update post #87

For those of you that do not know, our dear Gnome, Grumpy_Disney_Dad, is going in for gastric bypass surgery on Monday June 18th.

I thought it would be nice if we here at the Dis could show our support by having a party to show him how much we care. So tonight from 8:15pm until 10pm pacific time I am having a party in my room. Just search "antjewel" if you are not on my friends list. Grumpy will arrive around 8:30 pst.

He sent me a pm earlier this week to describe the proceedure. So here it is in his own words......

"I am going in monday 18th. They will be creating a new stomach pouch that will hold about 1 oz of food. The surgery will take approx 2 1/2 hours with about 2 hours of recovery time. If possible, they will be doing it laproscopically but if necessary they will open my belly up like a split chicken breast. If done by lapro, I should be leaving the hospital on Wednesday afternoon. If they do the open surgery, i will be leaving Thursday afternoon. After the surgery I will be staying with my mother until at least monday morning. I will be taking the laptop to the hospital but i am not sure if they have wifi. The doctors expect me to be up and walking within 4 hours after my surgery. Once i get out of the hospital, I know for sure that i have web access at my moms house, so I will definitely be online when i get there."

So as you can see our resident VMK gnome will be going through a pretty tough week starting the 18th. So if you can't make it to the party you can post your words of encouragement here on this thread or pm him. He loves to hear from his VMK buddies.

Also he had a special request that he would like me to pass on to you all. He asked that instead of sending him pixie dust, he would prefer if you all sent mermaids. Now that's the Grumpy we all know and love!

And as most of you know DisKatDisKat (aka NorgeKatherine) has made a decision to leave VMK. Well, she has agreed to be on VMK tonight for Grumpy's party. Grumpy asked if we could also make it a going away party for DisKatDisKat so that she can say goodbye to all her friends on the Dis and VMK as well.

I had that procedure less than two years ago, so, Grumpy, I know what it's like.

I will be there with bells on, God willing and the creek don't rise. If I'm not, it means I fell asleep with my hands on the keyboard again!

Aww, Pacific time really STINKS!! The party doesn't start until 11:15 my time - I seriously doubt I will still be awake

My gnome friend, I wish you all the best in your upcoming surgery. A good friend of mine had the same surgery done about 6 months ago now and is doing fantastic with it

As per your request, sending you a lava pink mermaid to keep you company and to hold your hand throughout and to whisper sweet nothings in your ear so that you feel better soon...

Im never on that late and Im sure you dont know me very much in VMK anyway. I wanted to say grumpy Disney Dad good luck and I know you wont regret it!! I had Gastric BYpass surgery Feb 2, 1999 and that was the day my life changed for the good. Im so happy now and can do so much. One of the things I still giggle about is being able to walk through the little turnstles at parks like Disney forward instead of sideways on my tippy toes.!! PM me if you want to talk Im alsways there to support fellow gastric bypass. Its been 8 years and I feel great still today.

Sorry I can't make it, if it was on summer break (yes: only 11 real days- 7 school days ) I might have been able to go- but for me it is also starting at 11:15...

I'm so glad I came to catch up on reading! Never got to say bye to Kat and definitely will come as she-gnome to Grumpy's party. This is a huge step and I pray for easy recovery and transition to a new way of living. In the spirit of miracle surgeries and mermaids, I leave you with this, an even better story than the picture I was searching for. An extra prayer for Aiden Macintosh as I just thought of all his miracles waiting and already acheived.

I am sorry for the late hour for this get-together. But i asked both Kat and Grumpy when would be convenient for them and this was the time that they were both available.
