to the one thinking about going to the new Georgia Aquarium on a Saturday ---RE-THINK Your Decision! I understand that it is very busy during the week and Saturday's are EXTREMELY BACKLOGGED!
We came down I20 to I75 and never saw anything about the aquarium. We had thought about stopping on our way home!

Molly K,
Hi. I thought it was kind of neat to see someone from close to where I live on the boards. I live about an hour south of Cape and come there all the time to shop, dr. visits, dentist visit etc. Just wanted to say Hi

darla
:wave2:

Something else great for adults on the long drives is XM Radio. We discovered Channel 164 Classic Radio with shows like the Shadow, Lone Ranger, Gunsmoke, Johnny Dollar, Benny Goodman, Bob Hope USO shows, George Burns and Gracie Allen, Suspense, Mr. Gildersleeve, and many others. It really makes the drive go by quick!!!

Don't forget to check out the transportation board here. There is a sticky link on top just for those driving-and there is a link to a pretty good page here on the DIS with Exit by Exit information for the States from VA to FL. We have about a 16 hour drive(without breaks) I think we are going to try to do the big push day one to get to South Carolina. And then just onto Disney from there. Normally we leave after work on a Friday night- drive to NC. spend the night. And then drive like maniacs the next day to FL.
The killers and the part that I refuse to drive is that Looooooooong boring staight away in SC where there is ALWAYS traffic no matter when we have been there- you are merging 4 lanes to 2. kills us every time.
Oh and then you cross into FL and think "we're here" We always stop at the welcome center for the free OJ*yum. And then there is still another several hours to get there. Jacksonville is another killer if you hit it anytime near rush hour.
And RESERVE A ROOM!!! for the trip down and back. I won't bore you with the details but we had a horrible trip the time we didn't

:cloud9: We are leaving Friday night at 10:00pm we have a 11 hour trip so the kids hopefully can sleep most of the way down. dd5 and dd20months I rented a portable Dvd from rent a center for $15.00 Im gonna rent a couple movies from blockbuster since they dont have late fees anymore. I will probably take some for me too then maybe an audio tape too. I'm getting very excited!! Cant sleep :surfweb: at all. :cool1: . We have resv at Best Western lakeside in orlando. Hope its nice. and I hope we can check in early!

mickeyloverx2 - Have a great time on your trip!!

The only suggestion I have, after traveling 20 hours with 4 teenage boys, is to do a scavenger hunt.

The prize was $20 disney dollars and the boys decided to split into 2 teams.
I found a website that had some items to look for but I added some more. I brought it out on our trip at a point when they were starting to get antsy and needed a distraction. They absolutely loved it!!

Two of my favorite memories on our trip is:
1. The boys standing by the road in their pj's at a gas station trying to get a trucker to honk their horn
2. One of the boys got a guy at another gas station who was on his way to work sing "We're off to see the Wizard" while pumping his gas

If anyone wants my list I'll happily PM it to them.

Priceless!! :rotfl2:

Molly K,
We are also from the Cape Girardeau area. Going to WDW in early June staying at AllStar Movies. We plan to drive 3-4 hrs after work on friday, then all day Saturday, then 3-4 hrs on Sunday which is the day of arrival. This is our first trip to Disney.

On the way home we are going to stop in Louisville at the Louisville Slugger Museum. We're looking for somewhere interesting to stop for 1-2 hours on the way down (from Chicago). Any ideas? :confused3

World of Coca Cola in Atlanta?

Kimmumum said:
What is there to do? Do they have tours? Free Samples?
lots of free samples, history of the company (ads, product, etc). It really is a lot of fun. I dont have the link handy, but if you do a search for World Of Coca Cola Im sure you can find the site.

If we hadn't gotten stuck in awful traffic this past Saturday we would have stopped there on our way home.
Never again will I try to drive out of Florida on April 1. It seemed 3/4 of the snowbirds also picked that day to leave. What should have been a 6 or 7 hour trip took over 10 hours.

It's been a fun reading through all these tips on driving. We will making the trek June 1 driving from Iowa to Florida. I was actually thinking about the extra bag packed for the trip down. Weluvdisny thankyou for your list of scavenger hunt ideas. With 3 girls from 8-12 this will be a great way to pass the time! I also like the idea of the wrapped gifts. We won't be able to leave until after noon on June 1. Plan to make it to St. Louis. The next day drive to Valdosta, GA. Then on June 3 drive to POR. Can't wait.

:goodvibes This has become a family tradition with us, we get our free OJ and then go over and take a picture in front of the florida sign. (We actually had to wait in a line to take our picture this year. :goodvibes
