A/P class & Testing Costs???Does your school require?

my kids not being highschool age-not sure how the private school they attend handles this. but i'm curious if what seems to be popular around here for kids planning on attending college happens much in other areas. we have several top universities and the profs. at them also teach evenings and summers at the local community colleges. they teach the identical class (same book, same curriculum, same pre-requisites to get in) that goes for big bucks at the university in a much smaller classroom setting (like 30 in a class vs. 300 in an auditorium)-students get the same number of units and it's accepted/transferable to the university same as if you've taken it there. it's not unusual to see a big percentage of the students made up of current highschool jr/sr's. they take the basic english or math test the c.c. requires as a prereq. and manage to whack out as many as 2 full courses each semester. during the summer allot that have gone away to college come home and take a class or two as well. i've known kids that have graduated highschool with as many as 10 classes completed. they've done it at a much lower cost than it would have been at their university, and they've been able to make college applications with a proven track record of college academic performance.

just curious if that's even an option in other parts of the country.
