I think it's sad that so many people think it's OK to monetarily punish a server for the rules set upon their employers. Very sad.

I'm with Frank on this one. There might be rules... but they should be treated as guidelines.
That would make this country a pretty awful place to live wouldn't it? Kind of makes me sad if that actually did happen. That would make us no better than any fascist nation anyplace.
Once again, I'm going to use Fenway Park (Boston Red Sox baseball stadium, for those who don't recognize the nameSandrA9810 said:I'm with Frank on this one. Even when it comes to a manager reprimanding an employee.
I'd probably be the first one fired for not carding an 80yr old. There's no way I'm going to question or doubt that person's age.
). The posted rule is everyone must show ID to get beer. They don't care if you're 21 or 101. No ID, no beer.I don't mind being carded because I know that person is only doing his/her job. I work retail and if a credit card is not signed and the person can't produce ID, we can't use that credit card. I didn't make up the rule but it's my job to follow it. I can't tell you how many times I've been yelled at because of it, but I'm not risking losing my job because that person didn't bring his/her ID into the mall. The store may lose a little money, but it happens. If we used a stolen card, imagine the flack we would receive then.
Rules are rules and even if I don't like it, I have to follow it if I want that product or service. It's just the way it is...
I totally agree, we all know we have to be carded to buy alcohol so why get mad? Or better yet DO NOT go there!!! geez how hard is that???

I can wear my AARP card on one side for those times and my ID on the other!!

OP here, just thought I would pop back in and repost why I was mad about being carded. It wasn't the fact I was carded, it was because I was carded and my DH wasn't. When I asked the server why I was carded, she said it was because she was told older people are flattered when they are carded. This was discussed several pages ago......
OK, back to posting why I was so wrong about being mad!!

I believe the thread has migrated to the philosophy of "carding everyone" in general. I can't speak for others--but for me, what happened to you wasn't right. But the past couple of pages have been a reflection on the "card everyone" practice and not your particular isolated incident.![]()
I forgot to add that tips are split at this resturant, so while I didn't leave a wonderful tip, I did leave almost $6 on a $25 check. That is what I would normally leave, so the remark didn't affect one way or another.
I am off to get my tooth crowned, I get to be a queen for the day with my new crown!!
