A Not So Scary 5th Birthday PTR; October 2013 UPDATE 6/5/13 DD25's Wedding: Part 5

Hoping y'all are having a great Christmas. :santa:

Went over to my daughter's family about 9:30 to open presents. DGD got a ton of presents. And these are from us. She already opened presents from Santa.

She also got four Disney princesses fashion dolls; Tiera, Belle, Cinderella, and my favorite, Ariel:

And, of course, food. Sausage and Hash Brown Casserole for breakfast:

And homemade coffee cake:

Home for a few hours. Have to go up to my sister's for a second round of presents. :cool1:

Thanks. Part 2 won't be until tomorrow. Emergency baby sitting due to an ice storm heading our way. DGD may not have slept here Christmas Eve, but she is spending Christmas Night with us.

It looks like you had a wonderful Christmas. Stay safe and warm.

D~

Thanks. I don't do ice, and I barely do snow, so I'm hunkered down for the day. DGD is playing with her Innotab. She actually got it for her birthday, but she got a new cartridge for Christmas. So it's almost like a new video game.

Oh, and the Cinderella pajamas are a Christmas present. Dunno when she'll change into regular clothes...if she will today.

I'm off until January 3. However DH still has to work. Dunno how bad the roads are. Right now, we have no snow (although we could get it this afternoon). But we have the ice. And that's worse than snow.

DH is s a travelling repair technician. His territory is usually Downtown Cincinnati, which is about 20-25 minutes away...of course, this is the day he has to go into the branch office...nearly an hour away.

We have DGD, so that DD wouldn't have to drive her to day care. It's a 5 to 10 minute drive from her house to day care...however it's up a steep hill. Normally, on days DGD doesn't go to day care, DSIL looks after her. However DSIL has a doctors appointment. So this is where Grandma and Grandpa (Grandma especially) takes over.

Anyway, as promised, here are Christmas pictures part 2.

We all gathered at my eldest sister's house. There were 21 of us...four generations, starting off with my dad, my older sister and her husband, two of her four children and their spouses (one was spending Christmas in Cleveland with his in-laws, and the other just left...had to be at work in Chicago today), my younger sister and her husband, along with their daughter and two grandchildren (their son, DIL and two children come into town on Friday), my brother and his wife and two children, and of course me, DH, DD24, DSIL and DGD (DD25 spending the holidays in Louisiana, of course). A lot of people along one long table. So we served ourselves buffet style.

It was good. Ham, turkey roast beef, Swiss and American cheeses, shrimp cocktail and mac and cheese. For the kiddies of course.

After supper, we celebrated with pumpkin pie, cheese cake and birthday cake. For the baby Jesus, of course.

The Christmas tree. And there were still more presents.

After we opened presents, the adults played a modified version of Charades. This is my youngest niece starting off the game.

All in all, a fun time, and a very good Christmas.

What a lovely family! Thanks for sharing.

That's a great stash of presents under the tree and it looks like this year's theme for Christmas was a drama-free family Christmas.

it looks like this year's theme for Christmas was a drama-free family Christmas.

It was. :) We were a little worried about introducing the new son-in-law to the family. I think only my younger sister has met him before yesterday. But that turned out well.

I'm booked! :dance3:

Seven nights at Wyndham Bonnet Creek. We'll arrive on Sunday October 27, and depart on Sunday November 3.

This wasn't without a little bit of drama. We own points at Wyndham, and I knew we didn't quite have enough points for our vacation (we splurged on a Christmas vacation a couple of years ago). I thought I could buy enough points to cover. But I just found out I can't do that until the three month before mark..which is pushing it close.

But I'm allowed to borrow points from my 2014 year. Which I did. Got the confirmation letter this morning. We are set.

I'll have a new ticker up with the actual arrival date this weekend.

We also own another timeshare, and we have some extra vacation points from them. But they needed to be used by the end of July. So DH and I are going up to the Wisconsin Dells over Memorial Day week. :cool1:

Gotta go...have to go up into Ohio. I think we found my mother-of-the-bride dress. Need to order it ASAP so it gets here in time for the wedding.

Congratulations on booking the accommodation. And on finding your dress.

That must be a relief!

And your Memorial Day week holiday sounds interesting. Hope you'll share pictures.

Happy New Year!!

And with the new years, we're now officially in the 200's! pixiedust:

Happy New Year!

We can officially say that we're going to the World THIS YEAR! :cool1:

Not much going on. I am trying to figure park days and ADRs.

We're getting six day tickets, non-hoppers. Originally, I was thinking two MK days, two Epcot days and one HS and AK days. However, my DH suggested one each of the four parks, then let DGD decide which parks she wants to return to. That actually makes sense; however we'll need some good touring plan those two days, in case she picks busy parks (I can imagine going to Epcot on a F&W Saturday :scared1:). It also means we'll be eating all counter service those days (we were probably eating counter service anyway...we can afford a few table service meals).

Thursday is our only definite day. Hopefully we can get an early appointment at BBB at DTD, and get to Epcot by noon. I'd love to try Soarin, and I guess we can if Fastpass+ is an option. But if it isn't, do y'all think there will be fastpasses for Soarin at noon? We'll have an early dinner at Akershus.

Monday, I'm thinking will be our AK day; Tuesday will be our MK day and Wednesday, our HS day. We'll do a character breakfast. But I'm not sure which one. I'm leaning toward an early ADR at Tusker House on our AK day. However, is Crystal Palace (on our MK day) that much better? I think it's a lot more expensive. Plus, DGD is not a big Pooh fan. I think she'd like the characters at Tusker House more. There's also Ohana's and Chef Mickey's for breakfast (also on MK day). However, would we be able to have breakfast and make rope drop (or close to rope drop?)

So many decisions...not sure what to do.

I've eaten at Tusker House for breakfast and Crystal Palace for dinner. I've also eaten at Chef Mickey; but that was quite a while ago in 2005. I believe that CM is a bit of zoo these days.

I really liked the breakfast offering at Tusker House and the characters were great.

I understand Ohana's is really good as well.

I hope you get FP for Soarin' at that time. If you're having dinner at Akerhaus, then if there are FP with a later return time, you can always fit it in.

Haven't been posting, since there hasn't been much news.

Until now.

1) DD24 (the one who's married) has decided on a date for the big wedding ceremony. February 15, 2014. Just a little over a year away. We rented a nice reception hall for the ceremony (my parents had their wedding dinner there when it was still a nice restaurant...that was nearly 60 years ago). Yesterday, we went wedding dress shopping, and she picked out a beautiful ivory gown. It's a wonderful feeling, helping to pick out a wedding dress for your daughter. It's a weird feeling, helping to pick out a wedding dress for your already-married daughter.

2) We got our tickets today. At least most of them. Got six-day Magic My Way tickets for me, DH, DD24 and DGD. Looks like DSIL isn't coming. He probably won't be able to get off work. Besides (as DD24 says), he hates crowds and theme parks anyway. So he'd probably going to have a rotten time. Oh well. He just doesn't know what he's missing.

We'll get tickets for DD25 and DFSIL as soon as well know their official plans. They'll only be at Disney from Wednesday until Sunday, so we'll probably end up getting three day tickets for them.

The closest Disney Store is in the Northern Cincinnati suburbs; about 45 minutes from our house. So we don't get by there very often. I had to travel to the general area to pick up some clothing for myself (on order for DD25's wedding). So DH and I decided to buy the tickets before any price increase.

It's getting more real. We have the tickets; we have the rooms. We're driving, so we don't have to deal with plane tickets. We just need money for gas, food, hotel rooms to and from WDW and spending money.

Which is still a lot. But we now have the main things paid for. :cool1:

No, I haven't been neglecting the pre-trip report. I promise.

It's just that there's nothing much really to report.

1) Dunno if I told you this or not, but I'm a government employee. Meaning that this furlough might be affecting me some. It won't affect the trip. Almost all of it is paid for, and I have money saved for the rest. They're talking about me being off six days during the summer. This is our busy time, and they wouldn't dare lay us off now.

Yes, I work for the IRS. :rotfl:

Up until now, I actually worked a lot of overtime. I think, with the sequestration, it's drying up. Money-wise, that's even worst than the forced unpaid leave. But it's getting old, working 60 hours a week. I like my normal time off.

Unfortunately, it will affect DD25 and DFSIL worst. They're the air traffic controllers in Louisiana. They have this big wedding, plus they bought a house last year. Fortunately, most of the wedding is paid for. I think they're looking at betweeen 10-15 days off. Hope it isn't until after the wedding.

Actually, I hope Congress get their acts together, and resolve this. Before something horrible happens.

Yeah, right.

2) Between now and October, looks like I'll be travelling a lot throughout the country. Here is my tentative schedule of trips:

Easter weekend: Visiting the in-laws just outside Knoxville.

Second weekend in May: DD's wedding in Nashville

Week of Memorial Day: Vacation in Wisconsin Dells. I went to college in Milwaukee (Marquette University, class of 1981), but I've never been to the Dells.

Last weekend of June: Nephew's wedding in Cleveland

July 3-7: Taking DGD camping to Carter Caves in NE Kentucky. Never been there either. Good swimming and hiking. And of course, the caves.

Mid July: Crochet Guild of America summer event in Indianapolis. It's the first time it's come this close to home. I've been once, in 2007 when it was in New Hampshire, and I had free airfare through DD25. Enjoyed it. Even though it's a five day event, I'll probably only spend two or three days there. I can justify the registration (free), and even taking one class. I don't know if I can justify $135 for a hotel room.

I'll try to have mini-trip reports for most of them.

3) Yea! For the October park schedule to be out. I'm trying to figure out park days. Right now, I'm leaning toward this:

Saturday Oct 26: Leave home about 5 am. Breakfast in either Corbin KY or Knoxville TN (depending on when DGD wakes up). Supper at where we stay overnight...hopefully Valdosta, GA, but more likely, Tifton, GA.

Sunday Oct 27: Arrive at Wyndham Bonnet Creek mid-afternoon. Dinner at DTD; unless my Cincinnati Bengals play a late Sunday game. Then it's Pizza Hut delivery.

Monday Oct 28: DHS. Early supper offsite (or possibly DTD).

Tuesday Oct 29: AK Early ADR at Tusker House. (I wanted AK on Monday and DHS on Tuesday; however AK has early EMH on Monday.) Early supper offsite...or possibly cook in the condo, since we'll be home by 6 PM.

Wednesday Oct 30: MK. Early breakfast in the condo, late lunch at BOG, then late BBB appointment. Hoping that the late lunch will suffice for supper. If not, we'll have cold cut fixings back at the condo. Leave MK fairly early.

Thursday Oct 31: Epcot. Also DGD's birthday. Light breakfast in the condo, brunch at Akershus (try to get a very late breakfast ADR). Stay at Epcot until about 3, rest at the condo, then DD and DGD will head to the MK for MNSSHP. DH and I will go out to eat (or possibly go back to Epcot for F&W Festival), then crash at the condo early. Unless there's a good Thursday Night Football game on, in which case, we'll go to a sports bar to watch it. Does anyone know if WBC has the NFL Network?

Friday Nov 1: DGD's choice. We'll go to the parks where DGD want to go to again. I would think MK would be one of them, except she would have already been to MK twice. I won't make any ADR's for Friday or Saturday. Due to DD and DGD's late night, this won't be a ropedrop day. If Epcot is one of her choices, we'll make this the Epcot day. I don't want to spend Saturday at F&W with the crowds and the drunks. I don't want her to learn any new words. Probably do a late-afternoon CS for supper.

Saturday Nov 2: DGD's choice. We'll make rope-drop, and leave early.

Sunday Nov 3: Leave our condo early for home. :( Hoping to make it to Knoxville.

Monday Nov 4: Home. With a lot of Disney memories. :cloud9:

Sometime in 2019-20...Our next Disney trip.

Just stopping by to wish you a...

Easter-3.jpg

D~

Thank you. And a Happy Easter to everyone.

Short trip to the in-laws in Grainger County TN (near Knoxville). Leaving in about an hour and a half. Will have brunch at Pine Mountain State Park, KY. I hope.

Had a little car trouble yesterday. Car wouldn't turn over, so we took the in-laws car to the Easter Egg hunt. Got back, car did turn over. Probably a temporary glitch.

Hoping to have pix when I get home tonight.
