A newly transplanted Floridian’s Disney foodie adventures

Today was an absolutely gorgeous day! Decided to spend the day at Epcot again. I arrived late morning and tried a few more festival foods. It was packed today! I wanted to try more but World Showcase was worse than I-4.

First up, I had been dying to try the Remy milkshake at Sunshine Seasons. I think I had high expectations because I tried the strawberry cheesecake ice cream that was the completer prize for Emile’s fromage montage a few years ago. It was delicious and I wished I could’ve gotten another one. This was… not that. The strawberry cheesecake milkshake is topped with whipped cream, a sugar cookie, a mini cheese cake, a chocolate medallion, a chocolate Eiffel Tower, and a half of a strawberry. The mini cheese cake was the best part. It was light with perfect cheesecake flavor. The chocolates were fine, standard Disney garnish. The strawberry was fresh. Would’ve liked a whole one. The cookie was… not good. Bland, and somehow both chewy and crunchy? It reminded me of a crunchy cookie that had gotten stale. The fondant on it had no flavor at all, and I mistook it for paper at first. The strawberry cheesecake milkshake tasted more like strawberry milk. I didn’t taste cheesecake at all. The consistency was right for a milkshake but again, flavor was a bit lacking considering how it was advertised. I so wanted to love this. The presentation is fantastic. But at $10.99, I’d rather have another filet mignon. Was not worth the price in my opinion. Parts were good and parts were just okay. I probably would not order this again. Maybe if it were $3-4 less.

Speaking of filet mignon, I finally made it to the Canada booth! In all the times I’ve been to F&W, I’d never tried the cheese soup or the filet mignon. This plate did not disappoint! Everything was delicious!

The steak was cooked well, with just a hint of pink in the center. Not over done and not undercooked, though I do prefer my meat to be on the done side. The steak was juicy, savory, and had zero fat. It was so tender I didn’t even need a knife. I just bit into it. The mashed potatoes were seasoned well, and I think the best mashed potatoes I’ve ever eaten. The mushrooms were nice with a bit of a brown gravy. This was excellent, and I wish I’d got 2. If the line hadn’t been so long, I would’ve went back for another.

The cheese soup was also very good. You could taste the bacon and cheese. Neither was overpowering. The other seasonings were also good. The pretzel roll was soft on the inside with a bit of crunch on the outside, just as a pretzel should be. Again, I could’ve had 2 of these. I’ll definitely be booking a meal at Le Cellier, so watch out for that if you’re following along on my adventures.

I’m not sure if I’ll get back to Epcot before F&W ends. I have MVMCP tickets for November 16, and I’m busy the last weekend of the festival. I wish I could’ve tried more things. There’s always next year to look forward to.

I’m back! Today is a party day! I got to MK early enough for lunch. Chose my old faithful hand dipped corn dog at Sleepy Hollow. Once again, it did not disappoint. Huge, fresh, and delicious!

Then during the party I tried the jalapeño tots (party exclusive) from Friar’s Nook. These tots were delicious! Hot and fresh with a jalapeño popper on top. The sauce was fantastic as well. Plus cheese and bacon. Can’t go wrong with cheese and bacon. Definitely try these if you’re at MVMCP!

I’m back with another character breakfast! I did a late breakfast for brunch today Thanksgiving Day at Ohana. This has been one of my favorite character meals for a long time, and today did not disappoint. The food has been variable in quality the last few years but was excellent today.

The welcome pastry has often been hit or miss for me but was really good today. Fresh and warm and not too dry. Subtle pineapple flavor on a Hawaiian roll type of pastry. This was yummy, but I tried not to fill up on pastry.

The fruit was fresh and included strawberries and watermelon which I had already eaten before the picture plus grapes, cantaloupe, and pineapple. The skillet was excellent today! The eggs were flavorful and the ham and sausage were tasty too. The buttermilk biscuit was a little tough and could’ve used some jam or preserves. I’m sure they would’ve brought some if I’d asked, but I prefer the waffles over the biscuits. So, I sampled the biscuit but focused on the waffles. The Mickey and Stitch waffles were perfect. Fresh and soft, not tough or dry. I love a Mickey waffle any day any time. The potatoes were really good today as well. I often think they’re a bit too salty without much other flavor, but today they weren’t overly salty and had a great home fry/breakfast potato flavor. I rinsed everything down with a glass of POG juice. POG juice just tastes better at the Polynesian for some reason.

The characters were great today as well. Sometimes the interactions at Ohana feel a bit rushed but today they were all so sweet and spent a good amount of time with me. This always makes me feel nice as a solo diner as well. All in all a fantastic brunch for this holiday. I’m going to have a nap then I’ll post a review of one of the holiday bakery treats from the Contemporary. Happy Thanksgiving to those celebrating today!

I almost forgot to come back and post my cookie review!

I chose the ginger snap cookie at the stand set up in the Contemporary near the gingerbread Castle. The cookie is as large as the palm of my hand. The texture of this cookie was very nice. A bit of crunch on the outside but slightly softer inside. This is not a hard, dry crunchy cookie. Nor is it a soft, chewy cookie. It’s just the right texture for a ginger snap. There’s a sprinkle of sugar crystals on top. The spice in this cookie is very nice. Sweet and warm, like a gingerbread should be. It smelled wonderful when I opened the plastic. Taste wise, it almost hits the mark. My particular cookie seemed to have areas where the salt wasn’t as well incorporated. Salt is very important for baking, but you shouldn’t taste it. Every few bites I could taste salt. The bites that were not salty were very flavorful but the salt did take away a bit. Not sure I’d get this again. Maybe next year. Or maybe a different batch would be better. Overall, I really wanted to love this cookie. It came so close. So so close.
