I promise this is the last installment…

DAY 2, part 3

Lunch at La Brea’s Express counter didn’t take too long. Just sandwiches, not bad, or so I thought. Later poor DH didn’t feel well – which we attributed to the tuna salad he ate at La Brea. The plan was to head to the hotel for a nap and pool time before hitting any more rides and our BB dinner. We started walking DTD and sure enough got sucked into shopping. First stop, Dept 56 store. Oh how I love those little houses. I just started collecting the Halloween ones. Last year, it was the Mickey Haunted House and this year I want the Jack’s Pumpkin Carving Studio. Well, just my luck the carving studio is the popular one and the Dept 56 store can’t even keep it in stock. Oh well, I’m sure I’ll find it online somewhere.

Then the Lego Store beckons us. Well it beckons, DH and DS….I just go along. We’ve been trying to get DS to understand saving money for Disneyland. As that is the standard answer for “when are we going to Disneyland, Mom?” “When we save enough money, honey”. DS doesn’t understand the difference between a $5 bill and a $10 but I’d like to think I’m planting the seeds of saving. However, we have learned you can’t leave any money lying out on the counter or anywhere DS can reach, or else it is put right in his the bank.

So DS has got enough money to buy an additional set of legos for his Knight’s Castle. And I let him buy a set of lego people that are magnetic. I should’ve known better as their heads pop off and drama ensued on the way home when one of the knights was lost in the seat. Now we’ve got Lego and Dept 56 in hand, lets take a nap! Apparently, we are so exhausted our little nap before swimming, turned into one nice long 2 hour nap with no time for playing in the pool. Bummer – I think DS would have loved the DLH pool – guess that’s an excuse to stay here again.

We get up, refresh a bit and head out the side door. Only to be stopped by a very nicely dressed CM. There is a bride in the Cinderella coach coming down the path! How’s that for a magic moment. I tried telling DS that she was a princess for day. He could’ve cared less. Just wanted to get to Toontown and Donald’s boat. So off we go.

We hit Toontown, play on Donald’s boat and since Mickey wasn’t in his house, we zipped through looking at it all. DS liked it so much – hopefully next time when Mickey is there, we won’t have such a difficult time getting him to wait in line. Minnie is just leaving for a break when we try to see her house. Oh well, it’s about time to check in for dinner at BB anyway. Our seating was for 5:30 p.m. I know that is a busy time – but we tend to eat early so it just had to be done. After the mixed reviews I’ve read I wasn’t super excited about going, more curious. Plus, there isn’t a BB in WDW – so DH was up for a new experience.

Well, we checked in at 5:00, well we asked about checking in at 5:00 and were told to come back at 5:20. Winnie the Pooh isn’t too far, so we head over there to squeeze in one more ride DS will go on. BTMRR drama didn’t rear its head, but DS did make sure to tell me he won’t be scared - -so he was clearly still thinking about the dark rides. :sad1: Poor kid. We check in at 5:20 for BB and proceed to wait for 30 minutes before being seated. No water view just a normal table, kinda on the outskirts of the restaurant. Here’s our review: Service was very slow – so slow we didn’t walk out the door for another hour, not by choice of lingering nicely over our meal….more like they were short staffed or something. DS’s PB&J was a frozen sandwich they just fried. DH hated the wedge salad – admittedly I thought it had too much oil. And he wasn’t fond of the Prime Rib either. Which is too bad, as that was the one thing I thought would make him like the place. My salmon was ok. Overall, the food wasn’t worth the price (as others have mentioned)...and as for paying for the atmosphere – not that great if you don’t have a water view imo. Dessert was ok – but just because the sail says it is edible, doesn’t mean you should eat it. Both DS and DH about gagged on the sail from the cookie boat. All and all, BB now falls in the been there, done that file. We did see a proposal take place - which was sweet. :love2:

We headed out to see if any of the family pictures looked decent, they never do and I always want to buy one anyway. But were plenty surprised that we first managed to catch the Parade of Dreams, with not too bad of a view. Then we waited in the picture line for a what seemed like quite a while, maybe 20 minutes? Of course the pictures didn’t turn out. Oh well. But by waiting the line we didn’t leave with the masses so the walk down Main Street was enjoyable. You’d think we’d manage to get down DTD without shopping but the Lego store beckoned again. I thankfully got to spend time bonding with a woman from Albuquerque at the Bare Essentials counter in Sephora first, so the Lego store was much more enjoyable. We left with more castle parts, can you believe it? Apparently DH had already decided either a new Star Wars set or more castle pieces…more castle pieces are ok by me…they promote father/son bonding time.

Now the best part of the whole trip, in my pj’s sitting on the hotel bed, feet up relaxing…watching the fireworks with DS oohing and awe-ing. Perfect! Big hugs all around. We decide to head to the beach after breakfast in the morning as beach time always sounds good.

DAY 3

I wanted us to try Granville’s for breakfast. I figured we needed a nice quiet place to start our morning. DS was on his best behavior so we had a nice meal. The difference in the service between BB and Granville’s was so vast and I can’t even explain. Not sure if I’d bring DS here again – might be pushing it - good behavior at the same nice restaurant two times in row. Then we set off to checkout.

Checkout was painless and our Potato Head parts were waiting for us. The CM at the bell desk was nice enough to chat with us about Huntington Beach. He even had printed out directions for the easiest way to get there. Perfect, much easier than reading mapquest. It only took us 20 minutes or so to get to the beach. We loved it. I could watch the surfers, waves and volleyball players all day. :beach: We walked the pier and hit a surf shop then buckled in for the ride home. Took us longer this time because we stopped at the Outlets near Palm Springs and ate some food along the way. But it was another nice mini Disney vacation for the books.pixiedust:

I have loved reading your trip report. Reading trip reports really helps me plan our vacation. The most important thing I have learned from your trip reports is to not push my 4 yr. old on any rides and start with the Dumbo type rides. I think that will go for my 7 yo too. Thanks for writing!

If you ever do go back to the Disneyland hotel. Please try the Goofy's kitchen at least once. Some people think it is over priced. So what, so is everything else Disney. I think it is a real special place.

I have never been to Granvilles; after your report I think we will give it a chance.

We ate at Goofy's Kitchen for Thanksgiving last year. It was wonderful. The food was ok but the idea that I could sit (and eat) while characters came to me....was worth any amount of money. Of course I say that after I had spent the entire day waiting in lines to get DS's pic with characters.

Enjoyed reading your reports ~ Thanx for sharing.

Thanks for the great report

We are at Disneyland a lot and we have found that most of the eating establishments are a hit and miss, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of constancy, except for Grandville’s we have always enjoyed our experiences there.

I really enjoyed your reports, lots of information ... and the photo of your DS at the beach, so cute. Sure makes me miss my grandkids even more.
