A message for the guys..

IMO my rules are the only rules that count.

I certainly wish they were, but there seems to be many, many people with all kinds of rules and opinions in varying degrees and it makes winning the funniest guy on the DIS award very, very difficult.

There are so many shades of grey that I can't even...

There are a few of us vying for the funniest guy on the DIS award that we keep hearing so much about, but we can't seem to find the rules and judging criteria. Do you happen to know where we may find it?

I've got all kinds of snarky pics ready and waiting, but I just need to know how they will be judged by the judging committee before I proceed.

Thanks very much for you help in this matter.

Hopefully the rest of the judging committee will do the same so we have some consistency with the rules and expectations.

Not gonna happen. I reserve the right, as a female, to change the rules and expectations whenever I see fit.

Just keep giving it your best shot. You'll know when I think you're successful.

I really appreciate your help. Another member of the committee actually posted their rules and considerations and I've forwarded them to the rest of the guys vying for the funniest guy on the DIS award.

It appears the judges and reviewing committee should have spent a bit more time creating the rules and expectations prior to letting all us all know there was an award to win. None of us know how to proceed and it makes me just want to say I can't even...

It's my new phrase of the month. :)

There are a few on here who are just trying way too hard to be funny.

I, for one, welcome the nonsensical posts, and the not-so-nonsensical, but funny all the same. The Community Board is such a hodgepodge of various discussions, and there are a lot of people dealing with real-life hardships - this place gives us all a respite to relax and have fun. I may not comment on most of them, but for the most part they make me smile, and an occasional eye-roll or shake of the head never hurt anyone, especially when others are having a good time.

As for the topic of this particular post, I tend to be a bit more conservative than the other WMs/Mods, so although these kinds of comments kind of rub me the wrong way, as long as they don't break guidelines - no harm no foul. At the least, this thread has helped guide me to lighten up a bit on my own slightly ruffled feathers... ha ha. :upsidedow

It was meant as a hey, here's what I've noticed thread. I guess I could have done it without mentioning certain posts but I think they would have come up eventually, or others like it.

And, if I was so easily offended, I would have walked away from this thread a long time ago. Either that or reported people or deleted my posts (even though they're all quoted lol). I've stuck it out though..

Sorry, but if that was what you meant to do, it didn't come across that way at all. It came across as an attack on a few of the men here.

The posts don't bother me. If they did, I would just ignore them. The only posts I find annoying are the ones where people attack someone, but I ignore those. I hope the mods don't have to censor jokes now.

I agree. It's the mean girl attacks, when people ask personal questions, that I think need to go. I've blocked a few of the "mean girl clique" & have a couple more on the "deciding" list. The guys seems to be having harmless, silly fun. There doesn't seem to be any malice in it. To me, intent means everything.

I have no doubt I'm much lower than that on many lists, but we're talking about participation trophies here and I am certainly participating.

I'm on record as one who does not see anything wrong with boosting a young child's self esteem & giving everyone a trophy at a young age, but I'll admit, this is funny.

I didn't mean to call out the guys but like I said in the OP, it was hard to get my point across without pointing to specific examples. I did apologize and I'm glad to see no one piled on them, just me.

Too bad you're not on the committee who makes the important decisions about humor and who gets to be the funniest guy on the DIS. :(

I'm trying so hard to win their favor that I can't even...

Couldn't have said it better myself, MJ. :)

Well, I could have. . . but "South Park" is on and I'm not paying real close attention.

;)

:D

How is it worse than saying she might have Aspergers?

Speaking as a mom of a child with Asperger's, I do think it's worse.

I don't think that saying someone has Asperger's is a derogatory thing to say, not at all. I know that some people do see kids with ASD to be broken or handicapped, but I don't see them that way. They're just different. And I think the scientific community has sufficiently proven that early intervention is key to helping kids on the spectrum learn to function in society. So if I heard someone suggest that a child might have Asperger's, I'd assume they were doing so from a place of caring, wanting that child to be diagnosed and start receiving therapy to address the symptoms.

However, suggesting that a woman's bad or strange behavior is due to being on her period has a stigma attached to it, going back to the days when women were considered to be inferior to men in all ways. Back then, doctors thought that our hormonal differences made us insane and kept us from functioning on the same level as men. Religions suggested that women were inherently evil because we carried Eve's curse. This wasn't that long ago, there are probably some among us that remember the end of that era (women were still being diagnosed with "hysteria" into the 1950s).

If you're gonna whine and pout about the rules, try getting together with the other guys and submitting a proposal and then a petition to the Rules Committee. Don't be surprised if it doesn't go your way. :teeth:

I'm the one who posted on the "bikini thread". I certainly didn't ask for naked pictures and not sure how it could have been construed as such. I did say something like, "this thread is worthless without pictures" or something similar - with a big smiley (indicating it was a joke). This is actually a pretty common saying on the 'net. I did not ask for pictures of anyone.

Someone posted a shirtless guy with his chest hair shaved like he had on a bikini top, which was a pretty funny response!

So please let me go on record and say that if I offended you (or came across as piggish), then I apologize.

I think you have a legit point; but I do think saying something in the individual threads would be a better way to get your point across then a some-what blanket statement.

For what it's worth, I still like you. :)

Does this "rules committee" also happen to be in need of a group of interns right about now?

If so, I simply can't believe you would recommend such a thing. I can't even...
