A Mermaid's 7th Birthday Weekend Trip Report

Oh great. I got scared when i read touring plans and booked both Plaza and Surf's up because I couldn't decide but think I'll cancel Plaza because I want to see Stitch :goodvibes

If you were trying to decide between Plaza Inn and Surf's Up for breakfast, then I'd choose Surf's Up HANDS DOWN!!! When we got to see Stitch, I told him that he was really the reason why we booked the reservation. He was so happy! :goodvibes

I'm still here:wave2:!

Hope you are doing OK, and are being able to manage all the emotions and stress of your ordeal!:grouphug:

Thank you! Life has been crazy busy in general & even more so with other events and especially because of the burglary. I'm finally going to set additional time to complete the list of property stolen on Tuesday and Wednesday. It's taken me so long for multiple reasons. It took me a week to begin the list, then another week to complete the list, so now I will officially transfer my list to their lists. In between, I'd love to post about our trip.

Also, I've been working on my thank you letter for Disneyland Hotel and to Corporate offices. I'm just going to send Corporate a copy. :flower3:

So, it's been 3 weeks ago today that our home was burglarized the day before our DD's special 7th birthday weekend. It has taken me this long to update because life has been busier than normal with work and kids' school & activities. The burglary didn't help with things either. I finally turned the final papers with the police detective & the insurance company a couple days ago.

That whole situationl has been such an ordeal. There have been additional expenses incurred as a result that I won't get into. :sad2:

I finally finished my thank you letter to Disneyland Hotel Corporate and to the Disneyland Hotel Front Desk manager. It will go out with tomorrow's mail. :thumbsup2

In summary, I was seriously depressed like I have never been in my life for 7 days. It turned into anger at this man because we realized that this "you-know-what" also STOLE our Disneyland backpack that we bought during July's staycation. It has our last name embroidered on it and it has our camera charger in it. I've been waiting for Best Buy to track down a replacement charger! This MAN has caused too many inconveniences to count. I couldn't believe this man had the gaul to not only steal our possessions but he used our own backpack because he must have realized his bag was too small!

Up next...Day One of DD's Birthday Weekend!

On the Sept. 7th, I updated about the check in process. Check there for more thorough details.

First of all, I forgot to mention that the Grilled Cheese Food Truck was in front of us in the carpool lane on the way over.

This was our first time driving on the DLH driveway. I love the sign!

I was so distraught and so emotional about what had happened. I felt so violated and scared for my family. So many thoughts were running in my head that I could NOT stop crying during check-in. The CM's provided some MAJOR pixie dust & we are eternally grateful! pixiedust:

It was a one bedroom suite in the Adventure Tower's top floor on level 14. It overlooked the pools, the other two towers, and you could see DLP & DTD. We were able to see the fireworks that night.

We were so impressed with its sheer size, elegance, and its conveniences.

We loved the headboard. DS3 kept pushing the button!

Up next...better room photos & our DLH 1/2 day cabana!!! :cheer2:

You have EVERY RIGHT to be angry at the person who broke into your home. He not only took your belongings, but took your peace of mind as well. I hope as time goes by, the anger will subside....thinking of you and your family.

Wow! The suite looks amazing!!! Yay for Disney for giving you all some pixie dust :thumbsup2 Before the remodel, we got upgraded to a one bedroom suite and it was SO nice! What an incredible view you have as well. Wow! Awesome!! Can't wait to see and read more :goodvibes

Crystal, thank you so much!

That was so amazing for you as well to have gotten that upgrade! Nice, indeed! :) It feels wonderful to get that pixie dust, doesn't it?

I forgot to mention in the update that I spoke to the detective. They have NOT caught him, he is on the run, and there's a warrant out for his arrest.

With each day, I can feel internally better and better. I think what helped was getting new rings. DH will be ready in a few to several weeks. I picked up my new wedding set this past Tuesday which happened to be our 14th wedding anniversary. Believe it or not it will be 22 years next month that we've been a couple! This time around the rings will NEVER come off my finger again! :flower3:

Great update. how cool you got pixie dusted! :thumbsup2

Thank you so much! You're getting so close to your vacation as well! How exciting for you! :cool1::cheer2:::yes::

I know like 50 days. Actually can't wait but at the same time the fact I'm going to be away from the piano for so long is making me nervous. It's the longest I'll have gone without practicing since I went back to lessons!

Well at least they know who he is and he can't run forever.....hopefully he is caught soon.

Congrats on 14 years! We just celebrated 13 years married in August! I'm glad you are starting to feel better too.

Yeah, we were super happy when we got our pixie dust! Kids were 22 month and 2 months at the time, so having a separate bedroom was nice! My mom was with us too and it just worked out really well!

Can't wait to read more!!

So sorry about not updating sooner! So busy!

On the last update, I showed the awesome pictures of the 1 Bedroom Suite that we were pixie-dusted with! :cool1:

After the shock had settled, I took the kids to the 1/2 day DLH cabana that I had booked for our 9:30 start time. DH stayed behind to take better photos with the large camera. I have yet to load those onto Photobucket. When we do, I'll post them! :thumbsup2

By the time we got to the cabana, it was about 10:15. We were granted Cabana 6 (it was the one I had requested for because it's the one we had during our July staycation). I saw the cabana attendant & we were soooooo lucky to have the same one we had at the GCH cabana in July...Jonathan! LOVE him! He remembered us and we chatted for a bit. He immediately put in our fruit basket request and we had our 6 small Dasani water bottles already waiting in the fridge. We met our dining server Veronica...ironic because we had her last July as well at DLH.

The kids had a snack & we got in the pools. We could see DH in the bedroom taking pictures because the two balcony doors were open and I could see the flash from him taking the photos. When we went onto the balcony, we tried waving our arms like crazy people, but he didn't see us.

DD really wanted to try out the Monorail slide. In July she had refused to ride them. DS tried the very small one. It's a side by side slide so I sat in the one on the left and him on the right. He whined the entire time, but said he liked it when we got off. I asked him if he wanted to do it again and he said, "NO!" So funny! But, can you believe it? DD only wanted to ride the smaller Monorail slide ONCE. What can I say? My kids just really love the pools and the deep water. So we went back until DH came over.

I ordered lunch for everyone and we just relaxed. Watched the TV, chilled on the sofas, took our time eating our food. DS finally fell asleep, but then our time was up before we knew it.

I usually take a lot of pictures, but I guess my head wasn't really in it (especially with what had happened the day before).

We went back to our awesome suite. I was carrying DS while he was asleep. DH was carrying our stuff. I laid DS on one of the bedroom's beds and gently closed the door so he wouldn't hear us next door. LOVED the amount of space we all had. So unbelievable!!!! :flower3:

A few minutes later, DS came out crying. I finally figured out that he peed so much in his swim diaper (wore it as insurance for the pool) that it leaked onto his clothes & on the bed!!!! Oh, no! I felt so bad for him because he was embarassed, but we reassured him it was ok. I called Mousekeeping & she was so nice. She also brought extra pillows that I asked her for.

Our plan was to relax in the suite until our 5:10 Goofy's Kitchen dinner reservation to celebrate DD's 7th birthday. DH gave the kids their baths while I talked to the police department (made the appointment to have the home fingerprinted...btw, I still can't get some of that stuff off!) and the insurance company. :sad2:

Here are some various photos of the kids chilling in the room...they loved the pullout couch. They would play on it, created a fort with a blanket and the side chair, watch TV while sitting on it, & DD slept on it.

What did I think of Goofy's Kitchen? Well, I have read many comments about breakfast as well as dinner (most of them from breakfast; most of them not so great about hit/miss meeting with the characters). As a result, I decided to have us try dinner.

We waited in line about 5-10 minutes to check in. We waited behind a family for our turn to have a photo with Goofy at the restaurant's entrance. They have a Photopass photographer to take your picture. A CM gladly takes pictures with your camera. HOWEVER, MOST of those photos were so blurry. This is the best one...my take on that. I think they're rushed so they do things as fast as they can to get the next family in. I ALSO think they want people to buy THEIR photos so they don't intentionally try too hard to take good photos with your camera/phone.

SERIOUSLY?!?!?! Look at how blurry that is!!!

We sat & waited a few minutes to be seated. We got our drink order in & got the food. Loved the variety of food for the adults and the kids! There were a lot of options for everyone. I definitely saved room for dessert...I'm a dessert kinda gal!!! I can't believe I didn't take food photos!!! So sorry!

Review of the service: it was so-so. He wasn't too friendly. You could tell he was rushed to cover so many tables that varied from 2 to 10 people at each table. He also had an assistant that helped with clearing and refills.

Review of character experience: I DON'T want to do Goofy's Kitchen again!!!! We saw Minnie, Snow White, & Alice 3 times! However, the other characters would go to other areas, but wouldn't come to our area that covered about 10-12 tables easily. So weird! After waiting an hour, I finally had to say something to our server. Can you believe it?...We still only saw one other character. I can't even remember which one. I'm sure DH used the large camera so I'll have to post that later. The ones we were waiting for were Chip, Dale, Pluto, & someone else that I can't remember.

Here are some photos though:

Up next...what happens after dinner?

Sorry about Goofy's Kitchen. I would be refusing to leave until I saw all the characters. lol

I know, right?!? You pay a premium price for that character experience. To me, the food is a bonus. I think we stayed for a total of 2 1/2 hours! That's why we had to give up! :confused3

Exactly. At WDW, I notice they have less characters at their character meals

I had been reading what people have said about the other character experiences at the other restaurants. For some reason, brunch & dinner at Goofy's Kitchen can't seem to get it right with rotating their characters in a way that guests meet all of them. I really wish they could fix that. Hopefully someday!

Here are additional pictures of our awesome 1 bedroom suite! These photos will focus on the cute touches we found in the room as well as looking outside of the room.

I loved this...wish I had this at home!

I loved the adorable plastic laundry bag!

Loved the hidden Mickey in the carpet. Can you imagine how popular this would be at the stores if Disney allowed us regular people to buy them?!?!?!

Here are photos of the pod-style coffee maker. We actually didn't use it, but I'm sure we would have if we were staying longer.

I had rearranged the items so you could clearly see what was included.

Look at what we saw as we were waiting for the fireworks show to start!

Isn't this picture beautiful?

I LOVE this picture. DD saw me wear the bathrobe & she wanted to be just like mommy!

So I found a couple more character pictures from Goofy's Kitchen...

So, after Goofy's Kitchen we took some photos of the replica Autopia car near their entrance.

We headed toward the DLH lobby. I really LOVE this retro Disneyland Map. I love the illuminated featured items. You should check it out in person. The pictures just don't do it justice!

These pictures were taken before we headed down for dinner.

Here are earlier photos from when we were at the 1/2 day DLH cabanas.

Soooo....after dinner we went to the Fantasia gift shop and bought key chains for our car. We went to Downtown Disney and bought a necklace for DD and a pendant for myself. After that, the kids were soooo tired. I think it may have been 8:45. Can you believe they just wanted to go back to the room? Who could blame them? We went back, chilled, watched TV and got ready to watch the fireworks. I'd show you the pics, but they really didn't turn out great! After the show, the kids went to sleep.

Up next....see what Ariel and Eric were up to!
