I have always wanted to eat at San Angel Inn but instead of booking it included with our ADR's I always went with charac meals for the kiddos!

Finally went for it this upcoming Dec trip, but now getting a little nervous!

I have seen a few posts on there that they have recently changed their menu and the food is um shall we say less than desirable.

Anyone eaten there recently that can give me feedback. I want to eat there but not if it stinks! If it does I will try to book somewhere else and save my self and family the indigestion

We ate there, first week in September. The food was very good. The service was excellent, and the theming was great.
Don't expect tacos and such! Look at the menu on allears. The only negative, is that the chips and salsa are Tostitos-they evidently sponsor the place, to some degree.

Not sure how recently you mean, but we do book this every trip, and will be there for dinner New Year's Day--booked this morning. I will say we've had great food there and so-so food. I always book it because I LOVE sitting inside the restaurant with the dark starry/fireworks sky, listening to the music, watching the boats go by, all with a giant Aztec pyramid in the background and if I remember correctly a volcano erupting.

I posted this week about the change at the Cantina San Angel, the counter service location. The new menu is vile, we actually threw away our food, I have never done that in my life! I couldn't believe it, the Cantina was my favorite CS location in "The World".

I don't know anything about menu changes in the main restaurant, I hope it is nothing on the level of what they did outside.

We ate at the CS part in Dec 08 and didn't think it was too bad at all.

However, thanks to the person who suggested the menu for San Angel inside.

I took a look at that food is way to frilly for me! Fingers crossed I can get us in somewhere else.

What ever happened to good ol' burritos, enchiladas, tacos, etc? lol

I NEVER would have put duck and mexican togther ??

Well-I warned you-it ain't tacos. I think that this is the source of many of the negative reviews-it just isn't what people expect. Everyone has different tastes-to others, especially those that have eaten this kind of food before, it's one of the best places in Epcot!

The menu change at the Cantina is very recent, I ate there in June and the menu was the same as it has always been. Allears and the DIS don't have the updated menu yet, they still have the old menu.

I'm sorry to say my family and I were not fans of that restaurant :( granted, I have had worse, but I didn't care for it.

the chicken enchilad with cream sauce was really good. just had it on our May trip. I would def recommend. :thumbsup2

oh...and if you need a side item...the refried black beans are yummy too...they are not listed but they do serve them.

We used to love San Angel. It hadtraditional mexican food only better. We went last April and it was our 1 nice dinner, brought friends with us and raved at what it was to be. We were not only disappointed that it wasn't the same, but embarassed that it was so expensive. The cost was about 1 and 1/2 - 2 times more than before. However, the food wasn't awful. It was good. It just wasn't what we wanted or what we thought we would be paying. I had some steak tips. Really quite tasty, but I wanted a chimichanga or some sort of tortilla based food!

Bummer about the Cantina. That (along with the UK fish and chips) was one of my favorite Epcot counter service places. We're going to Food & Wine on Sat. so I'll have to take notice of the changes. Why do they mess with something that was so good?

I don't know, but boy did they mess it up! They kept the churros, margaritas, beer, and kids menu the same (which BTW were the only things we didn't throw away).

My beloved combination platter is gone, sniff, sniff, gulp of air, sniff.

I was seriously crestfallen over this! No joke! My autistic DD called my sister from the restaurant and said, "I can't believe it! They changed the menu.", maybe I was a little too histrionic! lol

I agree about the Cantina. We ate there June 08 and loved it. I talked it up alot to DH so he expected good food when we went there in January. Boy were we disappointed.
I too wish that the San Angel had more traditional type of Mexican food. Having said that though we have eaten there are last 2 trips, the last one being 2 weeks ago, and we thought the food was really good.

We ate at the Cantina about 2 weeks ago and the food was actually not bad; food quality was definitely a far cry better than it has been in the past. What did you order that was bad?

We ordered the first item on the menu, it sounded inocuous enough, Chicken, tortillas, onions, red sauce, and sour cream. We also order the burrito, also very innoculous sounding.

What we got was a mushy chicken lasanga like amalgem of disaster that was inedible and the burrito-esq concoction was not any better.

What did you get that was edible?

I am serious we took two bites and threw the food away! It was unbeliveable!

The combination platter they used to serve was delish!

DH and I eat a meal there almost every trip and never had a bad experience.
I love the ambience and I love the giant margaritas!

San Angel Inn was the surprise of our last trip. I nearly cancelled our ADR's there because of all the negative reviews here on the DIS, but DH and DS wanted to go. We were very pleased.
The food was very good - not great but very good, the services was perfect, attentive without being hovering, the atmosphere is great.
I did not think the tables were too close together - no more so than other EC restaurants. I did not think it was TOO dark either.
Go and enjoy

Now I am worried about the Cantina menu. It has been our traditional first lunch on arrival day. I am wanting to hear more revies.

Have a Great Trip

I was pleasantly surprised on my last trip to San Angel. It was in 2007, tho. I don't know if it's changed from then. Based on that, I would go back in a heartbeat. I love the ambience, the food was very good (not great, but certainly very good, our server was very good. It was a really lovely evening.

When I say the food wasn't great, I'm comparing it to a local joint owned by a family from Mexico City. Now that's GREAT & very authentic. SA was very good, just not as good as Chilangos. The only reason I haven't been back is because we do have Chilangos right around the corner.

Now last time I ate at the Cantina it was pretty darn near inedible. I was disappointed because I had remembered it being better than that, but again, that was ages ago.

Thanks for the heads up. We were planning on eating there one day. We were thinking of eating in the main restaurant but my DH and I weren't too thrilled with the food choices, but liked the menu outside (via allearsnet). However, if the food had changed negatively, then we may as well keep going and try for something else. My kids love tacos, but I don't think they will like that type of taco (they are strictly meat and cheese taco fans).

We really enjoyed our lunch there over Labor Day weekend, this year. But as previous poster has said - it is NOT Mexican fast-food. So no burritos, tacos, etc. Those foods are the equivalent of getting McDonalds burgers & fries. But this is not a fast-food restaurant. You will not find the Mexican fast-foods in a menu-style table service restaurant, just like you wouldn't find McD's food at a sit-down restaurant with waiters/waitresses. But that is one of the reasons why I think so many people are disappointed with San Angel Inn...they are expecting Americanized Mexican flavored fast food sandwich-wrap style of food. These are not on the menu. The prices are right in line with other Disney table service restaurants...again, if people are thinking "cheap" Mexican food they will be disappointed because it's normal Disney pricing for menu restaurants where you are waited upon.

Ambiance is wonderful, especially on a hot/sunny day...so cool & relaxing. Like leaving the heat/glaring sun/busy park scene and just walking into a pleasant, calm evening of dining.

Here's a link to my current review...post 47 is the drinks & entrees, post 53 is the desserts.
