Okay. There is a local business I use about once a week. I love this business because they perform a service for me that I hate and there is no other service in our area that does it. Employees are nice. Price reasonable. Here is my problem. About 2 weeks ago I came into the business like I always do. The owner was there. He is a super nice man, very talkative. Well he looked a little worried and with the economy I immediately thought Oh No. They are going to close cause business is bad. Totally selfish on my part but I really like their service. I asked Bill what was wrong and he teared up and started telling me about the divorce he and his wife were going through. I got all the gory details. Then when I mentioned my legal background...well it got even more involved. Now whenever I go in there I get more updates and honestly I just want to drop in and leave. I don't have time generally to chit chat for longer than a minute. What should I do? The owner is super nice and I would hate to hurt his feelings but I really don't want to know about their divorce.

Gosh, you may have really "done it" to yourself!! You asked! He spilled. AND you mentioned your legal background.

I would just "rush" in......say you are running late and need to be quick and then rush out! Good luck with that!

Thanks. Last time I went by I checked to make sure his car was not out front. I was willing to wait to go in til the next day but fortunately his car was not there. I hate to not be a friend but gee whiz I am out of the legal field because I hated hearing these stories every day.

Lesson learned: stop telling people you are in the legal field. If you're out of it, you're out of it. Stay out.

Simple:

If you are a lawyer tell them that you cannot give legal advice to someone who is not a client.

If you are a non-lawyer tell them you are not licensed and therefore cannot give legal advice.

If you want to deal with it head on, tell them that you come to the business for a service and not to discuss legal or personal matters.

How to get in & out quickly?

Pretend you are having a conversation on your cell phone.

That's what I always do when I need to get away from someone in a hurry.

Just go in, pretend you're speaking w/ someone & tell then to "hold on" while your in the shop doing your business for a moment.

Can your dh or someone else do dropoff/pickup for a while?

They do ironing. I love it. My husband loves to wear 100% cotton dress shirts but I hate to iron them. The cleaners are too rough on them so I wash, dry, lightly fold and take to be ironed.

HOW CAN I FIND A SIMILAR SERVICE IN MY AREA?????

We need an ironing fairy and I hate the dry-cleaners.

I have done this. Make sure the phone is turned off.

You could make your DH iron his shirts it really does not take that long.

Wow, what kind of iron do you have? It takes my husband about 20 minutes per shirt and me about 30 for each of his shirts. They must be perfect for him or he won't wear them. (I, on the other hand, refuse to buy clothes that needs an iron.)

Is that all they do? Icant imagine that being a profitable bizness?

DH uses a small cleaners(not a chain) and his shirts are always done well.
