I was on zoloft for about 9 months but I had to stop because it made me so drowsy. I would sleep till 10 am and then I need a nap at 3pm. With a toddler that's not exactly an option! Does anyone know of an anxiety med that won't make me so drowsy?? Thanks

Hmmmm There are a TON and everyone interacts differently with all of them.

I have heard pretty bad things about paxil but it works (withdrawl effects are horrible and stuff)

I've been on Buspar strictly for anxiety

If you dont mind it being an antidepressant- Effexor and Welbutrin didn't make me sleepy

www.crazymeds.org is an interesting and very helpful site :rotfl2: (it's my favorite psych med site)

Go to that site and I will keep thinking for ya... what kind of anxiety is it? what about asking your doctor?

thanks! it's mostly for social anxiety. I'm going to make a doctor's appointment but I like to know as much as possible about different meds before I go. I do need to start counciling for it so I can get a better idea of what I'm dealing with. I'll check out that site too. Thanks again!!

Paxil is a really good medication for anxiety...it does have some side effects in children, but I do not know anyone who has ever had a problem with it. I have had clients on Effexor, and they sleep all the time. Wellbutrin is for depression, but can be used for anxiety (beware...since some doctors are now prescribing this for smokers, not all insurance companies pay for this).

Paxil is great for anxiety. I have not noticed any side effects from it and I can really tell a difference. pixiedust:

Mom and aunt are on paxil as well...I can see a huge difference in both of them. The only side effect for my mom was slight weight gain.

I take Lexapro and it does not make me sleepy during the day. I take it at night and go to bed. The only side effect I have is weight gain. Or it could just be from me loving to eat!!!!! :rotfl:

Good luck

Paxil is great but coming off it is horrible! I need to go back on it because my panic attacks came back recently but I had 3 months of withdraw coming off so I really don't want to. As long as I never have to come off it again I would take it again. (and yes I came off it very slowly and still had problems)

After living with disabling anxiety based psych problems for years, I have had success with Paxil and Buspar for over 10 years now. I couldn't take Zoloft because extreme of jitteriness. Everyone is different.

Sometimes you have to wait a few weeks for side effects to lessen and the medication to really work. With anxiety it is VERY HARD to wait due to the nature of the problem. Keep your doctor informed and remember to congratulate yourself for even tiny triumphs over your anxiety. :wizard:

My DD10 takes Lamictal for seizures, but I know it can also act as a mood stabilizer, I don't know if it's something that would work for you, but it's been a great med for her, with no side effects that we can tell (she can't tell us as she's non-verbal and has no way to communicate novel ideas).
