A little disappointed by Fantasmic

Just saw Fantastmic for the first time last week, and I was a little disappointed. Wasn't sure what to expect (tho I'd read the chat boards ahead of time).

I thought the technology was really interesting (like how they projected the video on the "walls" of water) but the show itself didn't interest me much. Too much "dark" theming, I guess. Plus, it was really loud!!!! I guess maybe I just wasn't in the right frame of mind (I just loved Mickey's Philharmagic!).

Anyone else feel the same way?

I love fantasmic but that's why Disney World is so great, there's something for everyone. :wizard:

We love fantasmic. It is my familys favorite night time show. Guess we each have our own opinion.

We felt the same way. Glad we saw it but don't feel the need to see it again soon.

We are in no hurry to see it again either. It was ok, but I'd take Illuminations or Wishes over it anytime.

I agree with you. They really seemed to think that the whole projecting the picture on the water thing would make the whole show. After the first 10 minutes, it really wasn't novel any more.

We saw it once, and that was enough.

What part of the country/world do you people live in where you see 4 story dragons and a lagoon full of flames so often that it becomes run of the mill?

It's not my favorite either, I don't really get into the storyline, esp the part with Pocahontas, etc.
I like the end when all the characters come around on the boats.
I really don't like how long you have to sit to get a good seat, those metal benches hurt my bum!

I hate Fantasmic. The plotline (if you can even call it that) is really dumb, the effects aren't that great, and really the whole thing is a waste of time.

I much preferred Sorcery in the Sky fireworks.

I like the Mickey parts of it alot. The rest of it is pretty disjointed. I also really like the music. Now that we've seen it twice, I don't know if I'd go WAY out of my way to see it again. But, Mickey as the sorcerer? You can't beat that.

Funny that this was just posted. Here I have been trying to figure when we would see it when we go in two weeks. WE want to do Osborne lights and also eat dinner at Prime Time and that night there are two Fantasmics but the only time I could get a ADR for Primetime was at 6:30....which would mean missing the 6:30 fantasmic and the 8:00 probably. We were there in Jan. and I for one could skip it. I like it...and if it were easier to get to and you didn't have to pay big bucks at a restaurant to get better seats or get there 1 hour ahead of time.....I might like it better. I like it...dont' get me wrong.......but it is not my fave over the other parks fireworks and night time shows. It also takes a long time get OUT OF THERE AT NIGHT TOO.

Agreement from me:

I don't LOVE Fantasmic either.,,but for some reason my dh and dd really like it so we either do the dinner package or wait, it is just one of those things. We do bring a towel or two to sit on and order snacks and drinks.

In fact my other dd, my youngest, and I could totally skip it. In fact now that I think about it, maybe we will send dh and older dd on to fantasmic and younger dd and I will hit wishes or illuminations.

LOL thanks for the idea~ as ITA don't LOVE fantasmic.

I have to say that when my family saw Fantasmic in 2000 we were a bit disappointed too. I think part of the reason may have been our seats. We were between the 'screens' and also got sprayed with water and it was a cool night. We wanted to go again on our recent trip, but never made it. Our favorite is Illuminations, followed by Wishes, which was great as well. Great music!!

Saw it. Liked it well enough. Have no interest in seeing it again.

The benches irritated an old back injury that I have, so I may have been out of sorts, although I didn't notice the pain during the show. If I ever went again I'd rent a wheelchair so I'd have a seat with a back.

To me it's like the hoop-dee-doo review, once is a good enough experience.
The biggest issue, at least for me, is the volume of people. Another vote for Illuminations as our fav! :cool1:

Its not perfect but we love closing a park every night and cant imagine just going back to the room early when there is a extravegant production of this caliber included with admission. We love Illuminations and Wishes also but we always plan 2 Fantasmic, 2 Wishes and 2 Illuminations to end our nights each week. Cant beat it-pure magic.

I thought it was amazing, although the Pochahantos thing wasn't that necessary (but I'm from Virginia, where apparently that sort of thing has happened at least once).

I agree that it's a fun show BUT...I don't relish waiting around for it to begin, and we don't have much of a itenerary at the studios that would keep us around till Fantasmic time. I think Wishes and Illuminations are superior. :earsboy:

Everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinion but we've seen it 5 times and still love it. We took friends to Disney World with us last summer and I was a bit reluctant to take them to Fantasmic because I thought it might be boring to them - friend's dh wasn't thrilled with the MK and kiddy stuff but even HE loved Fantasmic. Surprised me a bit (pleasantly) and they want to see it again when we go back this coming summer. Different strokes for different folks I guess. I had heard that the Lion King show in AK was the BEST but I actually preferred Tarzan Rocks. I remember being tired in Lion King so your mood may have a lot to do with how much you enjoy a show. I think that's what happened to me.

It is just like anything else posted about WDW.........when people post asking opinions you get all different views. I am sure there are people who don't like aspects of the other park's night time shows too. I just wish that Fantasmic was different in that you didn't have to get there so early and then it takes a while to get out with the crowds. It is a neat show....but it just depends on your mood at the time too like with the Lion King show.
