I'm stuck:

-3(2n+1)-4 = -11

Everytime I work it out, I get n= 1/2. This can't be right, because when you plug it back in, you get -10 = -11.

AHHHHHH!!!!!

i got 2/3. it works then maybe you did it in the wrong order or something.

-3(2n+1)-4 = -11
first you do -11+4=-7
then you do -7/-3=7/6
then you do 7/6-1=4/3
then you do (4/3)/2=2/3

-3(2n+1)-4+4=-11+4
-3(2n+1) = -7
[-3(2n+1)]/-3 = -7/-3
2n+1 = 7/3
2n+1-1 = 7/3 - 1
2n = 4/3
2n/2 = (4/3) / 2
n = 2/3

-3(2n+1)-4 = -11

(-6n - 3) -4 = -11

-6n - 3 - 4 = -11

-6n - 7 = -11

-6n = -4

n = -4/-6

n = -2/-3

n = 2/3

(You could switch to positives long before I did, but I tried to do one thing per line.)

:goodvibes

Thank you, thank you alll!!! :worship:

I just looked back and realized I got n= 4/6 and kept renaming that to 1/2. What an idiot - no wonder I kept coming up with the same answer!! I was doing it all correct until the the very last part.

Okay, I get the dunce hat for the day! (and I'll wear it proudly!)

Some math books are good & some stink.

If you want a book that a total moron could learn math from, get a book written by Marvin L. Bittinger. They take you through it step-by-step and have tons of problems (and accurate answer keys!)

The books aren't cheap, but they are worth it!!!!!

Have run with algebra!

We all have those moments!

I got perfect grades in Algebra until one day on a test I brought X^0 down as X. I don't know WHY I did that! My teacher even wrote on my paper, X^0 = 1. I was sooo mad. Of course I knew that! Everyone knows that! Luckily, he only took off half a point and I still got my "A."

It's is always something dumb that you do that trips you up!

Have fun with Algebra (I love math)!
