We decided yesterday to head to Disney in August. We typically go every year this time, but we booked a week at Christmas, so we were going to hold off. With a great airfare, room discount, and dvc annual pass discount, we couldn't resist a last minute trip. We are thinking of a very relaxed travel plan, as opposed to our normal rope drop routine. We may also try the water parks for the first time as a family. We are not worried about missing rides if lines are too long...we'll do them another time. How do you do a more laid back week? Suggestions?

When we go in August we hit the parks early so it's not so hot, then leave around noon and go back to resort and swim, then dinner. We spent a lot of evenings in DTD and rented a car last time and even took a day to drive to the outlets in Orlando. Pool time would be my favorite way to have a laidback Disney trip!

Similar to pp. See our headliners early, roam around and just do whatever we want. If we start to get tired, we leave property to have lunch at some of our favorite spots in the area. Rest at the room, and roll back late afternoon/early evening. We only go to attractions with short waits, catch sitdown shows, and evening fireworks.

Our December trip was more laid back then normal and we went at a different pace. We did a lot of evening EMHs and tried at least 1 thing that we had not done on each park. New dining, the drawing class at Hollywood Studios and event a ride or 2 that we had not managed.

I felt like a more relaxing trip to us and we had a great time.

With the heat in August, if you are naturally early risers, I would do rope drop on your park days if there were any must dos.

Do what ever park you want in the morning before heat really kicks in.

Pool time, relaxing, and maybe a quick nap in the A/C. Maybe a game of minigolf when it cools off a bit. Night time- Spectro Magic, Fantasmic, Wishes, Illuminations- whatever is running. You can NEVER get enough of those.

Thanks! I can see that MK is open until 2 am one night...we did 3 am on 1 trip and it was great! I like the suggestions so far...keep them coming:)

Given the oppressive heat and humidity of August, if you aren't going to make rope drop then I'd recommend hitting the evening EMH park each day. Sleep in. Veg out by the pool or whatever- keep it all relaxed and slow paced during the day. Then hit the parks around supper time and tour the parks until the wee hours. Should work OK as long as you know that the FPs for the headliners will be long gone.

What haven't you taken time for yet? Those are the nuggets I'd mine this trip: Have you taken the boat ride between EPCOT and DHS? Have you enjoyed the dualing piano bar at Boardwalk? What deluxe resorts would you like to dine in? How about behind the scenes tours? and last but not least, enjoy your resort and all it has to offer. Stay out late, sleep in, and take breakfast poolside with a 2pm ADR in a park will slow you down a bit and;) get you in the right frame of mind for sure

When we travel in August our typical plan is to sleep in..... LATE, play in pool all day. Hit the parks for dinner (late) and late night EMH.

We love the evenings after dark.... not too busy and cooler. Plus the kids get ALL the pool time they want!

We've yet to take the kids to a water park as they love the pools, pool parties and fun activities at the pools.

So far I've thought of it as a waste of money. I'm sure as they are approaching an age/height/swimming ability where they can do it all at the water parks it won't be long though.

On our last 3 WDW vacations, we have rented a cabana at Typhoon Lagoon and spend an entire day there. We love how relaxed we feel after a day there.

If we do adults only trips, we book spa days.

I'm doing a girls only trip there next week and I have rented a pool cabana at GF for 3 days since I know the parks are going to be very crowded.

Renting a boat or water mice is also relaxing but I'm not sure I'd do it in the heat of August.

Love the idea of Jellyrolls but we are traveling with a 5 and 8 year old...out question this trip:( I like the idea of beakfast by the pool a day or 2....maybe the day after a 2 am MK closing:)

Have any of you done a day trip to Sea World? We have Sesame Place passes...likely for the last time with the boys ages. We can get ahlf price passes with our tickets, so it seems like the best thing to do. Now to figure out transportation to SW from Sports.

If you have a car, maybe hit Cocoa Beach for a day? We always like to go over by the pier and make a day of it! Also we like to go and check out other resorts and eat a meal there.
