My husband and I are going back, sans the kiddos, for some "us" time. We picked POFQ--it looked really nice. We're only going for 4 days--just a quick getaway before the holidays engulf us and the new year begins. :)

My question is could we have attempted to have a romantic weekend at the value resorts? The bargain hunter in me is questioning my choices here! :rotfl:

Thanks and I love these boards. I've been reading them (more than posting :guilty: ) for a while now. You guys are a WEALTH of knowledge. You helped me so much on my first trip with my family, it's unreal! :cheer2:

I can totally relate to what you are thinking. Anytime we have stayed at a moderate resort I always regret spending the extra money when I don't feel like I'm getting anything I couldn't get at Pop Century. ;) But I have to say I do think POFQ has a more romantic feel to it. But I didn't care at all for their food court or the bus sharing with POR. I guess if I were in your shoes I'd just do Pop. The food court is better, the bus transportation is better, and you'll save money! :woohoo:

Have you checked rates at The Swan? My dh and I have stayed there without the kids a few times and we really enjoyed it. They have really great rates sometimes, and you'll have better places to dine and more nightlife. We love the karoke bar at The Swan! ;) To me, if I'm going to spend more money I would rather get more bang for the buck. The heavenly beds would be a nice perk too. :rolleyes1

Haven't stayed in Values, but DH and I had a wonderful few days at POR. I'm thinking you'll find the same at POFQ. Both resorts are so peaceful and quiet, something that is important on a couples getaway.

Like Tigrlvspooh, when DH and I ever (rarely) get the chance to go to WDW w/out our 3 kids we choose the Swan. It is a lovely resort in a fabulous for adults location - walk to Epcot and MGM, nice BW fun in the eves, wonderful beds and room service and just over all a great deal compared to Disney deluxes.....Swan is a deluxe but at a more moderate price.

I know ithe Swan is not a Disney resort and maybe that's a priority for you, but when we go with the kids we always stay at a Disney resort and this way, by booking the Swan for our own little getaway, we don't feel like we are shortchanging the kids out of a Disney family vacation. Somehow that works in my head, lol. ;)

Happy planning & enjoy your trip!:wizard:

Not sure when in Dec you are going but there is a code out currently, it is listed as a special on the disneyworld.com website that might save you some on the POFQ reservation you have.
I don't think there is anything romantic about the values.
I think POR is the most romantic but PORQ is not bad either.

Thanks!

We're going from December 7th to the 10th. I had been looking at the value resorts and while they're great, I didn't see anything particularly romantic about them.

I think we're going to come back in June next year with the kids and try Pop. That looks like fun. We're renting a car (we like it better that way--we're roamers hehe) and we'd actually rather stay on site. We haven't and we wanted to go for it.

OH! Did I pick the wrong one? POR is more romantic? What code? Do you think they'd take it after the fact? I already gave my deposit... I hope so!

POR/FQ are both very romantic and it really depends on personal preference. I would find FQ far more romantic than POR becasue it is very quaint, with courtyards and pretty walks..you can walk along the river to to POR. It is lovely...and if you request building 6 you'll be away from the busiest area - it is a small compact resort, so building 6 would not put you far from anything.

And building 6 has some king corner rooms, which is always nice!!

Have a wonderful trip!!
(Will be at the Poly 12/7- 12/11 - great time to go!)

p.s. On the Disney site click on special offers and it will take you to the link to book the code - or you could call. Think right now it will be hard to snag a room with the code for that weekend - everything is pretty booked. It is also Mousefest weekend, which bring about 2000 Disney fans, but few stay at FQ, so not to worry!

Just checked: FQ not available , POR is for $124 for 2 nights and $110 for the third night..CBR is also available and that is like a vacation within a vacation!

Thanks so much! We'd enjoy the walks a lot.

We're really looking forward to taking the boat into Downtown Disney--we really dig stuff like that. I never thought I'd get "addicted" to Disney, but it really IS a magical place.

I can see that I'll be pushing for us to go quarterly, with or without our beautiful kiddos. :rotfl2:

Thanks for your knowledge and input! Building 6--CHECK! I had no IDEA I could request certain things. That's pretty neat. I'm going to call in a little bit to see what a CM has to say about the rates. :thumbsup2

I personally wouldn't spend a "romantic" trip at a value resort. There is one feature of a mod that you can not get at a value and that is a guarenteed King Bed. I think that is a must for a romantic trip.

You're welcome! When you call be sure to add your request :) Sometimes you even get a room with a view of the river from that building :) Oh, a king room is extra cost - were you able to book that already? Fingers crossed!! Oh!! And at check-in do not hesitate to ask them to double check to see if there is a king corner room in a nice location - most CM's are happy to do that :)

Personally I like the Riverside of PO because I think it's much more romantic. Slower pace and the view of the lazy river outside your Aligator Bayou room is so relaxing no matter what time of day it is. You can rent bikes or take a walk between FQ & R.

Honestly I can't imagine having a romantic time at a value resort because everytime we've stayed at one it's been cheerleading competition - no matter what time of year we've gone!!! Plus there's no real quite spot the two of you can get to relax unless you wait until late at night by the pool.

I think you'll have more romantic spots during dinner and those long romantic walks around the world. I'd walk over to the Polynesian an watch the fireworks from the beach or sit in the lobby of the Grand Floridian and listen to the paino player. What about letting her pick a pearl in Japan and getting it set in something that will remind her of how wonderful the trip was everytime she wears it. Sitting at the cafe eating an eclair in France watching the motor boats go by.

It's all in what you do that's going to make it romantic.

Oh! And just remembered Elliot the Sax player at Scat Cats in FQ - it's so nice to sit and listen to him for awhile with a nice adult beverage. Not too many kids are there, usually mostly adults.
:)

My hubby and I are going solo soon as well. I had originally booked AS Sports but upgraded to CSR because of the discount code that came out. I have never stayed at CSR but hear it is very beautiful and I am sure we will find it very romantic. I could use a little step up in the romance dept. as well- ha!!

POFQ may not be as romantic as the Wilderness Lodge or even Port Orleans Riverside. However it has to be more romantic than this

:lmao:

We did the trip without kids last February and stayed at POFQ.

The room was so quiet and the walk around the resort nice. The food
court and the general area in the front part of the resort were packed.
Lots and lots of teens on our trip. I like the Swan idea although never
stayed there.

The highlights were the boat ride to DTD and drinking and eating there.
We ate at Raglan Road and had the best time. THen on to a few bars.
The second best thing was the Keys to the Kingdom tour in MK.

Have a fabulous trip

I'm looking at booking POFQ for romantic trip for dh and I next Spring. I like the idea of the King bed (willing to pay extra for it). I would like Swan/Dolphin also but I can't remember if they qualify for EMH - do they?

Let us know how it goes!!

I think Port Orleans Riverside is more romantic than FQ. I just love to stay in the mansion buildings because I love the grand sweeping look to them with the manicured lawns and little fountains, it just feels like you're in a romance novel! This is, of course, from the girl who has read Gone with the Wind 17 times, so I may just be a little partial. I also love seeing the river, and walking over the little bridge to the food court, and I think the marina area around POR is really romantic, esp at night. I know many people like FQ because its smaller and closer together, but I think the more spread out feel is better suited to romance. Its easier to steal a kiss if there aren't a million people on top of you. I just feel like POR is more intimate and secluded. Which ever you choose (POFQ or POR), don't forget to book a horse and carriage ride around the resort. Its super magical and especially romantic

Swan and Dolphin do participate in EMH :)
