A June 2011 PTR! (5/31 Top 5 things to do while waiting for Disney!!!)

So I just completed my last race in the triple crown, the 10 miler (insert scary JAWS music). This was the race that I was dreading. Not only because it was 10 miles, but because the main part of the race was through the hilliest park in the city :scared1: So I really didn't have a time goal, I just wanted to finish the race. The plan was to run the 1st mile or so and then alternate between running and walking the rest of the way.

My first mile was ok, some of it was uphill :sad2: so I did it in 10 minutes. I didn't eat breakfast so cramping wasn't really that big of an issue for this race. I was going strong until about mile 5 when this huge wave of sleepiness hit me and I really just felt like taking a nap . But I kept going. I pretty much walked the last two miles because my feet were starting to hurt but I finished with a time of 02:04:25s which I am VERY happy with :thumbsup2 The fastest time in the race was about 49 minutes. I just don't know how they did it.

At the end of the race they usually have some free powerade, water, and panera bread. But what I love about this race is the free pizza! ;) All in all I'm very happy with all three races and I did end up losing that last 5 pounds in the process. This was my last race in the triple crown but next week I am doing another 5k just to see if my time has improved since the 1st one. And now that I know that I can do this, I want to stay in the gym and keep running. Maybe I'll have an edge on everyone in the sprint to Toy Story Mania when I'm in disney :lmao:

:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:You did fantastic! Congratulations!!!! :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

I bet those that got 49 minute times had ppl helping them with segways or scooters along the way!! lol

You are an inspiration with all these races and great times, Ashley!

:goodvibes Thanks! And I wish that segway and scooters were the reason :rotfl: as I was going on my third mile I saw the three guys in the lead completeing their 7th mile since the course was kind of circular. People that can do that amaze me.

There hasn't been much to do in regards to our trip lately. I sit there and look at my binder and try to make up new stuff to do :sad2: But I have been able to get some stuff accomplished. Since our trip is paid off I have started to fill all of the tip envelopes. So far I have all of the dining tip envelopes filled and I'm working on the mousekeeping ones. I also have two plain envelopes set aside for our taxi ride from CSR to Boma and one for the searaycers. I just want to have everything together before we go.

I also was able to stop by the dollar store and get the two for a dollar ponchos. I bought 6 of them which makes a total of 12 ponchos. You can never be too prepared :lmao: DBF told the cashier that it was ok if she thought I was crazy for buying all of these ponchos . I figured that after we used one we could just throw them away, if we don't use them then we'll just have a lot of extra ponchos :upsidedow

This is what they look like in case anyone was wondering
ponchos.jpg

DBF informed me that he would not be wearing the yellow one. :rotfl: I tried to explain to him that Disney's ponchos were yellow but he clearly wasn't hearing it

I've been checking online to see if I could get and earlier Ohana reservation(Ours is at 8:40pm) so that we would have a better chance of seeing the Electrical Water pageant, but it's booked solid. It'll be fine if we don't get to see it because I still think we can see Wishes on the beach with our time now, but I'm going to keep checking anyways, you never know.

And over my spring break I made our 30 day countdown calender but I'll wait to show you that when it gets closer to 30 days. Only 66 more days!!!

Firstly CONGRATULATIONS on doing the 10 miler!!! :cheer2::dance3::banana::dance3::cheer2:

You did great to complete it! :thumbsup2

Yay on completing most of your planning! :thumbsup2 I hope I manage to get to a stage where I think I have accomplished everything Disney related but there is a long way to go for that yet!

It is better to have the tips already worked out so you don't have to worry about them when you are enjoying yourself on the trip. Look forward to seeing your countdown calendar.

Good luck with getting an earlier O'hana reservation and am looking forward to seeing DBF in a yellow poncho :rotfl:

Buying several packs of ponchos was a really smart idea!!! It'll be so much easier for you guys to throw them out when you're done, instead of worrying about letting them dry, folding them back up, and keeping track of them until the next storm.
I wish I'd thought of that! :thumbsup2

Can't wait to see your 30 day calender!

:rotfl: I can't wait to see him in one either. It WILL happen. lol

I did the same thing on our trip in 2009 with ponchos from walmart, they were a lot more compact though. But it didn't rain at all, not once, so maybe that will happen again lol ;). We ended up opening one of the ponchos to sit on while we waited for illuminations to start

I stumbled upon this somehow and I thought I would share in case someone didn't know about it. On disneyvacations.com you can make your own personalized planning video. After going to disneyvacations.com it should say My Disney Video Planner at the top. It asks you questions about your trip and you can pick the video clips that you want to put in your video. Then you can e-mail it to yourself or anyone you want and watch it immediately. I thought it was pretty cool :)

Thanks for the tip! I've already created mine and it's 1:18:58 long :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

That is a pretty neat idea. I'd never heard of it before. From the maps to the ponchos to the video, I have learned so many valuable tips for planning from your PTR!!! :thumbsup2
I can't wait to read a TR if you do one; I'm sure I'll pick up a bunch of helpful ideas during that report as well.

I love the idea of being able to create a customised Disney vacation video but don't think it works if you live in the UK :confused3 Oh well, will just have to continue to get my fill with you tube videos - thanks for posting about it though :thumbsup2

That's why I love the DIS boards. I'm still learning about new things. And I will be doing a trip report so stay tuned!

Aww that stinks. I didn't know that it didn't work in the UK. But I do love the youtube videos though. I always end up on youtube WAY longer than I intend to be.

Todd Crawford Foundation 5K
Yesterday I did my last race, a 5k. This race was not connected to the triple crown and is relatively new so there were only around 100 people there. My goal was to beat my last 5k time which was 33:54s. It was a lot of fun and I ended up having a time of 32:22. So I was very happy to decrease my time a little bit.

Disney Update
I am now finished filling my mousekeeping envelopes and I have started packing  No clothes yet, just some toiletries and other things that I know we won't use until Disney. I figure the more I do now the less I will be freaking out before the trip :thumbsup2
No luck yet on the Ohana Reservation but I think we might just show up a little bit early and see if they can work us in if all else fails.
60 days left!!!!

Papa John's 10 miler pics
I received a few pictures from my 10 miler so I thought I would post them! These were all from the end of the race. We had to run round the football field in the stadium to get to the finish line.

You tube vids are great! :thumbsup2 I'm the same - think I spend far too long on you tube, Disney World website and these boards! :surfweb:

Congrats on completing your last race and it being your best time yet! :cheer2:

That's great that you have started packing toiletries etc - it sure means you won't have to stress nearer the time and your trip is not that far away!!

Thanks for posting the 10 miler pics :thumbsup2 I've done a 5k race in the past and it always seems that the finish line looks closer then it is - there is always a last bend or in your case the football field! :rotfl:

:rotfl: I hated that last bend in the race. Just when you think you're finished you have a huge football field to run around.

On the packing, me and DBF are both bringing carryons with just one checked suitcase to cut down on baggage fees so we're going to be packing our stuff together. I know that he will wait until the last possible second :sad2:so if I have all my stuff packed then I will be WAY less stressed out :thumbsup2

Since there is not much left to do in planning for my trip I thought I would start doing a top 5 list each week to get excited for my trip. This week will be my Top 5 Disney Rides. I still haven't ridden some of the major rides at Disney so I'm sure this will change after I come back! :thumbsup2

Feel Free to contribute your TOP 5 as well! I would love to know what they are.

TOP 5 DISNEY RIDES

5.Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
BigThunderMountain10.jpg

While BTMRR isn't a crazy rollercoaster that you might find in any other theme park I love it. I think it's just fast enough that everyone can enjoy it and I love all of the details and scenery during the ride.

4. Test Track
testtrack.jpg

This ride dissapointed me at first because I thought that I would get to go around in circles super fast on a track over and over again :rotfl: but I love all of the tests that you get to go through and its become one of my favs!

3. Kilimanjaro Safaris
kilimanjarosafaris.jpg

This ride has been a favorite for a long time. I love this ride because no matter how many times you ride it, you always have a different experience. I also love how free most of the animals are. They can come right up to your vehicle if they choose to.

2. Toy Story Mania
Toystorymania.jpg

I liked the Buzz lightyear ride so I knew I would like this one. The 3D aspect takes it to another level. My favorite is the balloon pop game because you can feel the air from the balloons pop. I think Disney did a great job with this ride.

1. Rock 'n' Roller Coaster
rock-n-roller-coaster-orlando1.jpg

This Ride is my number one because no matter how many times I ride it, it never gets old. Every time I'm waiting in line, I freak out because I know what's coming with the take-off. But the adrenaline rush is huge for me. And you can't beat the great Aerosmith music.

Some of the rides that I haven't ridden, but I'm sure will become favorites are Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, and Expedition Everest. I can't wait to give those a try in June!

NEXT WEEK: MY TOP 5 DISNEY SHOWS!

Am with you on the top 5 rides apart from RnR Coaster! It is the one ride I am really apprehensive about and am not even sure I will ride it  I hate upside down loops and think I'll be a bit scared at take off - may wait until I have someone that will ride it with me! I would replace that one with SM but love all the other attractions in your list :thumbsup2

The take off can be pretty daunting but I think that the worst part about it is just waiting for it to happen  But if it's any comfort to you, I never really notice the upside down parts, I actually had a hard time remembering that it went upside down.:confused3 I hope you give it a try. I will finally get to ride Space Mountain for the first time, so I'm excited to try that one.

Love your top 5 Disney rides! Those are all great attractions. KS really is a whole new experience every time you go on it. I think it helps that you have a CM talking to you during the whole ride; you never know where the conversation is going to veer to or how long they'll stop at a particular animal.

And RnRC does build up the anticipation! I think it can be even more exciting for people who have rode it before. When you are sitting there waiting to take off, you keep thinking, "I know what's about to happen...I'm about to shoot forward straight into a loop." It's a wonderful suspense.

Space Mountain can be a little rough, definitely not as smooth as the other Disney coasters. In my opinion, the right side is more jerky than the left side. So, if you want one that's a little smoother and a little tamer, I'd suggest taking the left side. That being said...my DBF and I preferred the right side, because we liked the crazy jerks left and right. :rotfl:

I think you'll love EE! It has the same intensity that RnRC has, just without going upside down.

Can't wait to hear what your top 5 shows are!
