For our first full day we had lunch at Via Napoli after our Kona breakfast. I was so excited to try VN. I was lucky enough to spend a few weeks in Italy when I was younger, so I could not wait to try this supposedly authentic Italian pizza.
First things first, VN was packed. Don and I had almost no trouble getting into any of our ressies up to an hour and a half early. I think it is because we are just a pair, and most people trying to get tables are 3+. But we ate lunch around 2 and VN was completely full.
The restaurant is nice and open. The only thing that was strange to me is that they have these big stations in the middle of the restaurant. Stations where the waiters can get the aqua frescas and place dirty dishes. This led to a lot of people watching the waiters standing around. It was just a little strange.
Overall I loved this restaurant. I could eat the pizza any day of my life. On the other hand, if you are a Dominos or Pizza Hut lover - this pizza is probably not for you. Don was not a fan. He was confused why there was so much sauce and so little cheese.
We decided to go light on lunch this day. We split this tomato and mozzarella salad. I wish there had been more as the mozzarella was extremely fresh and so soft in texture. The tomatoes were also fresh and crisp.
We also shared this salami and provolone. Although I have to correct them - there is no way this was provolone cheese. It was a hard aged cheese. Very pungent and strong. But I have had aged provolone and this was not even remotely similar. The in-house made salami was delicious. I wanted a whole stick of it to go. For $7, I though that 4 large chunks of cheese and 4 slices of salami was not too badly priced.
Sorry, we ate some of this before I took the picture. This is the pepperoni individual pizza. It was $18, or $9 per person. It was delicious. The crust was crispy with the light char from the brick oven. The crust also had that great chewiness and AMAZING flavor by itself. The sauce was just pure heaven. Basically sweet tomatoes with nothing to ruin them. The mozzerella was fresh and light. The in-house made pepperoni was slightly spicy. I will just have to ear here by myself without Don!
NOTE about pizza sizes: I have to say I am a little confused as to pizza sizes at VN. They have this individual pizza, which was too small for us to share (I only ate 1 piece so he could eat the other 3). They have the large pizza, which the table next to us had. We would have had so much left over for 2 people if we had ate that pizza...think slightly larger than a standard large pizza. Then they also have some ginormous pizza. There just didn't seem to be anything for the two of us to share, pizza-wise.
