A & J hit up O-Town...a May '10 TR w/pics! [Updated 8/26 post #46 Day 12 Part 2]

I think Anthony needs to drink more root beer.
I :lovestruc love :lovestruc restaurant.com certificates!

PS- we booked Garden Grill for November -our 3rd ADR there, so we might actually go this time! We also booked Cape May for breakfast on our last day- we booked there in January but Mike was sick.

Cape May breakfast is definitely something I want to do next time, I have heard so many good things about it. Can't say I have ever felt the need to eat at the Garden Grill though. I hope you make it so you can tell us how it was.

Ok, I've stopped slacking and I am back. ;)

Day 9

Our original plan was to head out to the beach [Gulf Coast side] and then hit a Tampa Bay Rays game but as the story always goes with us, we just didn't go.

Instead we hit the mall, watched some playoff hockey in our hotel room and then decided to head out to the ESPN club for some the Celtics playoff game. Of course the place was PACKED. We waited maybe 10-15 minutes and we're able to get two seats at the bar. We got beers, nachos and boneless buffalo chicken tenders. Standard fare but very delicious. The bartender was friendly and attentive and we had a great time.

On the way home I popped into the Boardwalk Bakery because I knew they had flan which is my favorite all time dessert. I got a piece and brought it back to the room. It was quite a disappointment. No where near as good as what they had at Cape May and I am pretty sure I was sick to my stomach the next morning. Oh, well. That's what I get for buying a custard at closing time.

The next morning we checked out of Fairfield Inn and Suites and headed over to Caribbean Beach check in was efficient and friendly and because we just never learn we were at the bus stop at 8:30a waiting for the Animal Kingdom bus.

At 8:49a we were walking into the park. From Caribbean Beach Bus stop to AK gate was 19 minutes. Not bad. We reached Everest right at 9 and not only were the fast pass machines down, the ride must have got a late start because no one was let on until 9:08a. The line was ridiculous and people were absolutely losing their minds. We had our fastpasses in hand and headed over the the Safari for a 10 minute wait [this was 18 minutes after opening].

After the Safari we had a basic breakfast at Kusafiri Coffee Shop and Bakery. A pastry, a bagel [toasted was not an option], some OJ. Nothing earth shattering but good. One hour after opening the line for the Safari was at a 20 minute wait. On our way back to ride Everest we stopped for some character pictures since the lines for them were really short. No one was even waiting to meet Flick. He was all by himself.

232323232%7Ffp537%3C5%3Enu%3D3334%3E669%3E4%3C%3B%3E24256695%3B%3C255ot1lsi

Then we stopped to greet Anthony's favorite:
232323232%7Ffp53842%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C%3A595%3B346nu0mrj

At 10:50 Everest was at a 35 minute wait. We hopped in the fast pass line and got on with barely a wait. By 11am Animal Kingdom was packed and we had a lunch at Biergarten to get to. At 11:15a we got on the bus to Epcot and were there in about 19 minutes. Spaceship earth of all things was swarmed. The line actually wrapped around the queue on the left. I had never seen anything like that before.

At 11:46 we got our fastpasses for Soarin with a return time of 3pm. Standby was at a 40 minute wait at that point. With some time to kill we headed to living with the land which was also packed. Posted wait time: 20 minutes. I had never waited for that ride before. In reality it was like a 10 minutes but still. We then went ahead and rode Journey Into the Imagination for reasons that still elude because that ride is terrible.

After Figment we went ahead and checked out Sum of All Thrills which only had a 15 minute wait. It was pretty cool, if not a bit nauseating. Finally we made our way over to Biergarten. Now, as you may have noticed we are not adventurous eaters in any sense of the word but we wanted to try different things this trip so here we were. Check in was friendly and we were seated shortly thereafter.

Now, I don't really recall what we ate but if you are familiar with Biergarten maybe you can spot something you recognize.
232323232%7Ffp53842%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C%3A5966346nu0mrj

From what I can recall all of the food had some kind of seasoning on it that was just not palatable to us. Even the potato salad just want's quite right. The fried items were very dry. I did really enjoy the potato soup they had and the pretzel bread was delicious. Dessert did not bring any good news:

232323232%7Ffp53835%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C%3A5969346nu0mrj

The black forest cake was forgettable, the vanilla pudding was bland. I mean it's pudding how do you mess that up? I don't even know what the third thing on the plate is but I don't remember if Anthony liked it or not. The entertainment as cool and I am glad we tried it but Biergarten is just not for us.

We left the restaurant and started to make our way over to Soarin'. Let me tell you walking around in the blazing heat, full of German food we did not enjoy= not good times. Thankfully there was a Mickey Bar on deck to save the day.

We did Soarin' then headed for the FP line for Test Track [got one before riding Soarin'] At this point it was 4pm and the standby times were 45 minutes for Soarin' and 50 for Test Track.

After the rides we headed back to World Showcase to catch Fran Cosmo. I must say that the day was hotter than the underworld. I was sweating buckets and was just glad to have a shaded place to sit and enjoy a frozen treat. The show was really good, I dozed off a bit during a really long song but otherwise it was enjoyable. We rode my favorite, Spaceship Earth, and then hopped on the bus back to CBR with plans to freshen up and head out to the Magic Kingdom for extra magic hours.

When we got to our room our keys did not work. I believe we were in Aruba so it was kind of a hike back to the customs house. We called the front desk and they had someone there within 15 minutes with new keys.

We arrived at the Magic Kingdom at 9pm and I believe Spectromagic was at 9:30. We got a great spot in the railing right across from the Diamond Horseshoe. Here are two of my favorite shots:

232323232%7Ffp537%3B9%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C%3A9932346nu0mrj

After Spectro we headed over the Big Thunder mountain and I lost track of how many times we rode but it is so much fun at night. Then we hit Splash Mountain not realizing it was fireworks time. We got to see a good portion of the fireworks from the ride which was super cool. This is one of my favorite pictures from the whole vacation. This is at the loading dock before we got off the ride:
232323232%7Ffp537%3C5%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C%3A9943346nu0mrj

After our awesome ride on Splash Mountain we were feeling kind of hungry so we went to Pecos Bill so I could have their taco salad that I absolutely adore. I just really wish they would offer chopped tomatoes for it but I'm just nitpicking.
232323232%7Ffp537%3C4%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C%3A9945346nu0mrj

You're handed the shell with the meat already in it and you can fill it to your heart's content at the fixings bar. There was a cast member at the fixings bar cleaning up who was super nice. I asked about sour cream, not only did she stop what she was doing to talk to me but she also went out to the back to get me sour cream. She didn't have to, she had things she needed to do so I really appreciated her being so helpful. I wish I had got her name.

Anthony wasn't super hungry so he opted for the kid's hamburger meal.
232323232%7Ffp537%3B8%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C%3A9944346nu0mrj

It was pretty good especially for $4.99. We will probably return to Pecos Bill. The food is pretty good, and ordering is so easy with the computers they have. I think more counter service locations should have these. We finally capped off the night with some ice cream from the Main Street Ice Cream parlor. It was so good and creamy and amazing. A perfect ending to a great day.

Day 11 we arrived at the Universal turn styles at about 8:30 for a 9am opening. There were only about twenty or so people there and I think half were there for wrestling. We had chatted with a Universal employee when we arrived and shortly before opening he walked over to us and asked if we wanted to open the park that day.

It was pretty cool, we got to give the opening announcement [don't really remember what it was], we also got a certificate with our name for opening the park, as well as an 8X10 from the picture they take when you walk into the park.

We proceeded up the street where they stopped us right before the turn to Rip Ride Rock It since it was still a few minutes to 9. The rest of this entry is about wrestling, so if this doesn't interest you I will not be offended if you skip the rest.

I had read online that you can email TNA and ask to be put on the VIP list so that way you wouldn't have to wait around all day to get in [it's free and general admission] The last time we went in 2006 we waited outside sitting on the ground for 13 hours so this sounded like a good idea. When they finally let us in to the rest of the park about 5 or 6 guys sprinted for the drain by the far side of the stage in front of Rip Ride Rock It. A few minutes after the line had formed a guy with a clipboard came out, took our names and handed us those tickets that people can buy for raffles and we were to come back around 5 I believe.

We got our tickets, rode a few rides [the park was not very busy that day] and then around noon we headed out to Steak and Shake for lunch, and then a nap [in the room not at Steak and Shake :ROFL-01:] We arrived back at Universal around 5 and were loitering around the gate that clipboard guy had come out of that morning. A few minutes later a different guy came out and said he needed some people for a segment they were going to tape. He pointed to a bunch of people, let them in and closed the gate. Shortly there after he came back out because he didn't have enough people. Anthony rushed up dragging me behind and got picked. He put me in front of him pointed to me and the guy waved us both in. We were psyched.

After filming the segment where we basically got to boo and hiss at a few wrestlers while they were interviewed the guy told us since we were such a good crowd that we were going to be that evening's "pit". The way the inside is set up, the side the TV camera points to is standing room only and that's where most people want to stand to be closer to the ring and be on TV. We were then herded into the hallway outside of the studio where we waited.....and waited.....and waited some more. They eventually let more people in to get in line behind us and after about an hour or hour and a half we were let in and of course everyone made a bee line for the barricade. I don't know how the queue would have worked for those of us who were not there in the morning or picked for the pit. I don't know how the "VIP" list would have worked. Judging by the lady walking about behind the crowd at the barricade not very well. She seemed to be really agitated that even though she was on the VIP list, there were no saved spots by the barricade for her. :shrug

Even though we were not at the front of the line we were still able to get a spot at the barricade by the entrance ramp. We were so stoked!

The show was fantastic. We had so much fun. Just in case anyone is interested here are a few pics.

Thanks for humoring me on this chapter

After an evening that involved tons of screaming, standing and some deliciously greasy Wendy's my throat was not feeling too hot that morning. We got a late start that morning so we decided it would be a good day to do our very own Sip and Snack around the World. To keep costs down we tried to keep each item under $5 each, and we allowed ourselves water outside of the budget because it was disgustingly hot and honestly who enjoys dehydration? Also, 75% of the item had to be consumed and we tried to keep it unique to each pavilion. We arrived at World Showcase shortly after 11am and decided to start in Canada.

After browsing around the shop and me seriously contemplating just chugging some maple syrup we settled on these maple butter crunch bars:

232323232%7Ffp537%3C5%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C8%3A378346nu0mrj

The verdicts were:
232323232%7Ffp53833%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C8%3A37%3B346nu0mrj

if it looks like I am about to cry it is because I almost did lol. The bar itself was really good but in 90 degree heat on an empty stomach it was not a good call. Not to mention the chocolate was sticking to my teeth and coating my entire mouth, it was not a pleasant feeling. Needless to say this was a bad start for me.

We moved on the UK where while browsing around the shops we found this that made us giggle.
232323232%7Ffp537%3C6%3Enu%3D3339%3E658%3E539%3E242%3A65862%3A255ot1lsi

yes, we are that mature.

We finally settled on chips [or crisps to some] I had the Lightly sea salted, Anthony had the cheese and onion
232323232%7Ffp538%3B2%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C8%3A388346nu0mrj

I really liked mine, and I tried one of Anthony's chips and I thought it was really good. He did not agree.

232323232%7Ffp5383%3B%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C8%3A38%3B346nu0mrj

Off to France where I had the best Croissant I have ever had. It was flaky and buttery and all kinds of amazing.

232323232%7Ffp538%3B5%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C8%3A399346nu0mrj

Anthony got a strawberry crepe
232323232%7Ffp537%3C6%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C8%3A3%3A2346nu0mrj

He was underwhelmed by it. He said the crepe was not very fresh and the filling tasted synthetic.

Moving on to Morocco I was really excited when I saw they had Tabbouleh salad. Anthony got the Moroccan mint tea.
232323232%7Ffp5383%3A%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C8%3A3%3B2346nu0mrj

Anthony gave it a thumb sideways saying it had an aftertaste of sweat. I couldn't stomach the Tabbouleh on it's own so I decided to get a side of Moroccan bread which was very good.
232323232%7Ffp53833%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C8%3A3%3B6346nu0mrj

I think from now on I am going to stick to the non authentic version of the Tabbouleh salad they sell in the super market.

Tune in next time for Part 2 Japan, America, Italy, and Germany.

After the debacle in Morocco we hit Japan where after much browsing and indecision we settled on Sake.

The cast member at the bar was very nice and after we told her we had never tried it before she recommend a sparkling sweet Sake that is mostly marketed to the new wave of women who are starting to drink Sake in Japan.

232323232%7Ffp537%3B5%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C%3A33%3C2346nu0mrj

We both agreed it was quite delicious.

232323232%7Ffp53834%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C%3A33%3C5346nu0mrj

America didn't bring much excitement, or anything unique so we went with frozen cokes because seriously, it was hot.

232323232%7Ffp538%3B3%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C%3A33%3C8346nu0mrj

What can I say? They were pure delicious American goodness.

In the Italy pavilion our only options were essentially chocolate, I guess we could have gone with wine but we obviously weren't thinking. I don't remember what the chocolates were called but maybe someone recognizes them.

232323232%7Ffp537%3B6%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C%3A3433346nu0mrj

232323232%7Ffp5383%3A%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C%3A3432346nu0mrj

Mine was really delicious, Anthony had a very mild allergic reaction to something in his as he said he thought his tongue was a bit swollen. We went back in to look at the ingredient listing but we didn't spot anything that might have caused it.

In Germany we definitely opted for booze. Anthony went with an Apple Wine and I got a Riesling
232323232%7Ffp53842%3Enu%3D333%3A%3E272%3E%3A%3C5%3E242%3B272%3B%3B6255ot1lsi

232323232%7Ffp538%3A7%3Enu%3D333%3A%3E272%3E%3A%3C7%3E242%3B272%3B%3B8255ot1lsi

232323232%7Ffp53839%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C9768%3B346nu0mrj

My wine was delicious, I LOVE Riesling. Anthony's......not so much. Neither one of us were particularly fond of it. I absolutely loved the bar here, it was nice and cool and the bar itself was really pretty.
232323232%7Ffp53836%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C97694346nu0mrj

Finally the country I was waiting for...China!!!!! I knew immediately what I was going to get. Pot Stickers! After cake and flan, they are probably my favorite thing in the whole world.

232323232%7Ffp538%3B5%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C97695346nu0mrj

They were kind of pricey at $4.99 for 3 but they were oh so delicious. Anthony went with the kid's sweet and sour chicken.

232323232%7Ffp53833%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C97696346nu0mrj

It was really tasty, the fingers were freshly fried, crispy and delicious. This also came with unsweetened apple sauce which got a big thumbs down from Anthony.

Up next was Norway. I chose a very delicious chocolate toffee bar.
232323232%7Ffp537%3B6%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C976%3B2346nu0mrj

Anthony picked out what I could only describe as what death would taste like if it was turned into a gummy candy.
232323232%7Ffp538%3B4%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C976%3A9346nu0mrj

The taste of these was just vile, that's probably why they were on clearance for $0.99 :ROFL-01: In reality we should have got something from the bakery but we were just so full it wouldn't have ended well.

Final stop was Mexico and apparently we just HAD to finish with tequila yay  I am not a tequila fan but I took one for the team. I attempted to take a picture of the menu but couldn't get the camera to focus so I couldn't possibly tell you what kind of tequila we had but I can tell you two things for certain.

1. I still hate tequila.

2. Those two shots cost $22 before tip.

It was really dark in there so this is the only shot that came out not looking like an acid trip.

232323232%7Ffp53836%3Enu%3D5646%3E993%3E255%3EWSNRCG%3D32%3C5%3C976%3B3346nu0mrj

Anthony liked the tequila so at least it wasn't a total waste :)

So here are the final stats:
11 drinks/snacks
3:30 hours
$97
Good times

After that, we waddled on over to Canada to wait for Off Kilter who were awesome as usual.

After off kilter we scooted over to the UK just in time for the Twinning's English tea garden tour which was really interesting if you're a nerd like me that likes to know how things are made. Anthony was not really enthused but he humored me for a while so I gave him a break and we left before we got to the free tea samples at the end.

Next time......Old Port Royal food Court review and unbeknown to us the illness portion of our trip begins

I am drooling over that wine and some of the food you guys had!!! I have also taken note of things NOT to get :rotfl:
