I have been wanting to figure out how all these beautiful pictures come about...well seeing all the nice notes on the setting you use to take each picture finally encouraged me to get my camera and look and get a better understanding of all these settings. Well I think I have figured it out!! Of course I just have a little Kodak digital z710 but it is a start. I pulled up the manual on the internet and I can study these settings and get more familiar with what they do!! I played around with the settings so long I ran my batteries down:rolleyes: ... again thanks for helping me learn more even if you did not realize it:cheer2:

I agree. I have a kodak z740, and since I have started hanging out here, I have learned a lot. I have read my camera manual (which isnt very impressive) and started on a book or two. This place is inspiring.

I love reading these types of things. One of the reasons I continue to make this board a daily visit priority and have so for over 2 years now.

I doesn't matter what kind of camera you use or how many pictures you take with it, the thing I always go back to is that you have to understand how your camera works. If you understand your camera you can do wonderful things.

I'm glad to read that this place has helped you guys and to anyone else. I know its helped me. Feel free to post pictures. If you hadn't guessed already, we LOVE pictures. :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

Share some pics you say....:yay:

These were taken earlier this year in Japan.
This is from a Shinto Shrine in Tokyo.

Guess that will do for now. I took these several months ago, and had no idea why the skies were blown out, or some were dark, etc. I now understand about exposure settings, aperatures, and the many other things that can affect a photo. Again, not an expert, just more informed now.:coffee:

I totally agree - this board has vastly improved my photography since I've been coming here. My only "problem" is that I'll think I've finally got some great photos, and then somebody will post a photo here and talk about how they took it/processed it, and then I'll discover something new to learn! One of my new year's resolutions is to play around with the white balance on my S3 IS. I never knew the setting was there or what it did, but I'm going to learn!

As an aside, we finally got DS15 his own cellphone yesterday (terrible parents that we are, we made our boys wait until they turned 16 to get their own cell, and DS15's 16th bday is Tues), and since we're at month 22 of our contract, I upgraded my cell to one with a camera. Only a VGA camera (whatever that means, but the photos are lousy compared to the 1.3mp camera on DS's phone), but even my cellphone has settings for white balance, spot vs evaluative metering, superfine, etc! At least now I know what all that means, thanks to the DIS photography board!:thumbsup2
