A Happy Anniversary in Disney without the Kids? No way that could be fun, right?

The next morning (Friday) our plan was to be at the bus stop for 8:15 for the 9:00 rope drop at Animal Kingdom. DH and I were again up before the wake-up call, and were down at the food court while waiting on the others. He and I split a breakfast platter of eggs, sausage, biscuit, and I think bacon. All I wanted were the eggs and bacon and he was wanting a sausage biscuit so it worked out perfectly. While we were eating, Christy called down to say that they had overslept a bit and would be a little longer than 8:15 leaving. We told them no problem and that we would just take our time with breakfast and see them when they were ready. Jason and Katie went ahead to the bus stop since they had already finished with breakfast and wanted to be sure not to miss the rope drop ceremony. It was around 8:50 when the other 6 of us got to the bus stop and the AK bus was CROWDED this morning!!! No worries - we had all day for this park, so we weren't deterred by the crowd at all. The bus ride was quick and uneventful and while walking into the park, we stopped for a few photopass pics. Okay, I need to add a small "disclaimer" on the 2nd picture here - the photographer told us to hold up our "paws" and growl like a Tiger. Well . . . as with most things in my life, I got a little carried away! Brandon and Christy have had quite a time picking on me about it.

I snapped a few shots before we went in as well

We enterred the turnstiles around 9:10 and found Jason and Katie there waiting for us - I was really glad that they had made it for the show and didn't feel obligated to wait behind with us. This trip was so awesome in that effect - everyone did what they wanted to and no one got upset or sideways or even questioned it! It was truly a great trip! Here are some pics of us as we headed to Kilamanjaro Safari

Oh, a pic of me and Kim - imagine that

WDW260.jpg

Tried to get a pic of Kyle and Christy over my head, and got this sweet shot instead

WDW261.jpg

Aha, here they are!

WDW262.jpg

Doesn't Katie just look so excited! Every disser needs a dis BFF to share the obsession, don't they?

WDW263.jpg

These drummers inspired a pic that I have of David from later in the day

When we got to the Safari, the posted wait was 20 minutes, but in real time it took about 10. The weather was P-E-R-F-E-C-T this morning! Sun was bright, yet it wasn't quite hot yet - it made for an amazing safari ride. We had heard that the animals were more active first thing in the morning, and it definitely proved true for us - we saw much more than I have on previous trips. (We were hesitant to head here first because we really were wanting to do Expedition Everest before it got crowded, but we were very happy with our decision by the time our safari was over)

I have LOTS more animal pics, but just picked a few for the report - I was on the inside of our row, so some of the shots were sort of blurred and dark. Kyle got some really good video though! After the ride, we took a stroll on the Pangini Exploration Trail

We really enjoyed watching the gorillas - they were probably so fascinating because our behavior on this trip much-mimicked theirs!!! :rolleyes1 We slowly made our way over to Asia - stopping in some shops here and there.

Oooooh, and Kim and I found the snack we had been dying to have for months!!!! Churros!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And here is where the drum demonstration from earlier came into play . . . I'll reserve comment and let the pictures do the talking

WDW317.jpg

WDW318.jpg

We just love David - he's such a crazy guy, and has little inhibition when it comes to acting crazy in public! (Thus the dancing in Epcot, drumming on the streets of AK, the story you'll hear about from lunch . . . ) He's a perfect fit into our wacky family! :goodvibes

WDW320.jpg

We made a pit-stop into Dinoland on our way to Asia. Half of our group had never ridden Dinosaur before so we were excited to go chasing that Iguanadon! EVERYBODY LOVED this ride! We got off of there laughing hysterically at ourselves! The ride photo wasn't very clear of us, so we didn't buy it, but it was much fun I assure you! We attempted to ride Primevil Whirl after that, but it was being closed just as we were walking up. Not sure what the problem was, but we never made it back over there to see if it came back up that day.

After our dino-detour, we got back on track for Expedition Everest! Oh, but not before stopping for some photopass pics with the tree of life.

Okay, back to Everest . . .This is a ride that we had all been really looking forward to! Here are some (you guessed it) pictures from the line

This ride was so much fun!!! Oh, and funny story - we had decided that for this ride picture, we would all kiss. Well, we get off of the ride and find that 3 of the 4 couples are smooching, but Christy is making a kissy face toward the camera and Kyle has his shirt over his head like on the Test Track picture! :rotfl2: When we saw the picture Christy was like "Oh, we were supposed to kiss each other!!!!" and Kyle was like, "I thought the guys were doing cornholio????" Anyway, it was a good laugh! Jason, Katie, Brandon and I were in one pic together and it came out really cute so we split a package of it

ExpeditionEverest001.jpg

After buying the picture, we all jumped right back into line for another go. Oh, forgot to mention - it was nearly 11:00 when we got to Everest and the wait was still only posted at 20 minutes! :woohoo: For the next ride I don't remember what our ride picture plan was, but I do remember that Kyle and Christy wouldn't tell anybody what they were doing because it was a "surprise". :confused3 We were a little concerned! :rotfl: Turns out that before getting to the big drop, they put water in their mouths and for the picture they look like they're getting sick and water is sphewing out of Kyle's mouth. It looks really funny, and even funnier is that he got the rest of our crew behind him wet! (Don't worry we had the back rows so no innocent riders were harmed ;) ) It was really funny. By the time we got off of our 2nd spin, it was time for our lunch ADR at Yak & Yeti. We had been going so much that morning, we hadn't even realized how hungry we all were!!! We were seated right away and quickly ordered some appetizers and our entrees. Here's where David's funny lunch story comes in . . . We somehow got on the subject of Kim and David's relationship and David procedes to tell everyone about the first time Kim told him that she loved him. Apparently, she had had a little bit to drink that night and called him on the phone crying and saying, "I have something to tell you . . . I'm not sure how you're gonna take it . . . " (read that like a slurring, crying young woman which is how David told the story) " . . . but I think I love you . . . " :rotfl2: It's probably not nearly as funny being typed here, but if you could have heard David immitating Kim saying that and saw Kim trying to cover his mouth you would be cracking up!!! Lunch was a constant roar of laughter from that point on and the food was sooooo delicious!!!!

. . . continued . . .

We finished lunch just in time to catch the next showing of Flights of Wonder - a show that DH really really loves. I remembered from the September trip that 2 members of the audience with cameras get to go up on stage, so I handed Christy my camera and told her to stand up and wave it in the air when the time came for it. ;) It worked like a charm and she was picked to go up.

After the show, we decided to brave it and ride Kali. Okay, so we didn't "brave" it - we bought ponchos!!!! :rolleyes1 We were all determined to do our best not to be soaked for the rest of the day. Our hope in that was fading, though, as we watched droves of riders coming out of there absolutely drenched!!! We knew that whoever was facing backwards going up the ramp to the drop would get the worst of it, and the rest of us would probably make-out okay. I so wish I would have had a water proof camera because we would have had some awesome pics from this ride! Well, the time comes where we're fixing to hit the ramp . . . the raft is spinning . . . who's gonna be backwards . . . it was Kyle and Christy! :rotfl2: The whole way up the ramp, Christy is holding her poncho tight around her neck with the bottom tucked up underneath her and down they go, and up the wall of water comes over their head and BAM!!!! They got absolutely drenched - even with the ponchos!!!! I swear I thought I was going to have to splash water on myself to mask peeing my pants from laughing so hard!!!! Then, to top it all off Christy looks at Kim, Katie and I (all bone dry) and says "Laugh it up bi***es!!!!" I think I lost consciousness at some point from lack of oxygen due to laughter! Oooooh, I wish you all could have been there! :lmao:

WDW345.jpg

WDW347.jpg

After we all recovered and passed our ponchos off to people heading into the line, we decided that the Maharajjeh Jungle Trek would be a great way to end our time at AK. None of us had ever done it, so it was a first all around. The tigers were really playful this day and we watched them for a long time - they were magnificent!

WDW350.jpg

WDW356.jpg

WDW358.jpg

After the "trek", Kyle, Christy, Jason, Katie, Kimberly and David decided to head back to the resort to change into some warmer clothes for that night, or in Christy and Kyle's case - some dry ones! B and I stayed a little longer at AK and did some shopping, and just walked around people-watching. We left there about an hour or so after everyone else, and made our way to Downtown Disney. The rest of the crew was going to be meeting us there later, so we spent the time by ourselves just browsing the shops and picking out stuff for the kids. I think we even held hands! :scared1: It was so nice and the weather was still GORGEOUS!!!!

:rotfl2: OMG - I swear my co-workers must think I have lost it!!! They have to be wondering what I am laughing at?!?!? You have me cracking up!! :rotfl:

Awesome update my friend!!! That was such a fun day, and thinking of Christy on Kali still makes me laugh....That was hilarious!! :rotfl: Ok, now I seriously want some Yak & Yeti! :goodvibes

Can't wait for more!!!

:rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl: Sounds like you guys had a blast. I'm jealous and laughing so hard that I nearly spit my salad on the floor.

:rotfl: I was worried that it wouldn't come across as funny being typed and not "told" - glad to see that it did! Oh, I just wish y'all could have seen it all happen in person!

Man, I could go for some pot stickers right now! :upsidedow Christy and I were talking about that ride on Kali today at lunch - it's still just as funny as the day it happened! :lmao:

Great updates.
The room looked beautiful. DH did a great job.
What a fun group to have together at Disney!

It was such a great surprise and he is really such a sweet guy! We had a great time together - more updates coming soon. :goodvibes

Ready and waiting for more my friend :surfweb:

Hope to have another update posted before my dr.'s appointment this morning - if not I'll be sure and get one up this afternoon. Stay tuned . . . popcorn::

When I last left you, DH and I were walking around DTD waiting for the rest of our wild bunch to arrive. We didn't shop long before they called to say that their bus was almost there so we headed down towards DisneyQuest to meet them.

WDW197.jpg

We met up with the crew, then parted ways - Brandon, Kyle, Jason, David and Christy went to Disney Quest while Katie, Kim and I headed to the Marketplace to spend all our money . . . er . . . I mean do a little shopping. I finished the majority of my souvenier shopping for the trip in one stop at World of Disney - the final bill was not pretty! :rolleyes1 Then, we headed into one of my favorite shops on Disney property - Basin!!!! I just love this place! I went in and stocked up on Mickey bath bombs (OMG they're awesome - as they "fizzle" out in your bath water, little mickey-shaped soap confetti floats all around you and it smells sooooooo good!) and then we headed for a cold treat from Ghiradelli!

WDW364.jpg

WDW365.jpg

While in line for our chocolate endulgence, Christy called to say that she was on a boat headed to meet up with us in the Marketplace - time for her to do some shopping of her own! :woohoo: By the time we met up with her, the chocolate treats were long gone, and my lady friends were seeking a different form of "cold beverage". I choose to reserve comment on the events of the next hour and just let these pictures do the talking . . .

The guys called around 8:00 to say that they were ready to head to the Boardwalk for some dinner, so I made my best attempt to get my lowered-inhibition ladies to the bus stop

We finally made it, but not before stopped to "violate" some innocent by-standers

We finally made it onto a bus headed for the Boardwalk, and Kim was in rare form

WDW376.jpg

The bus that we were on picked up our men folk on the PI side of DTD and they were very "entertained" on our ride to see what some of the ladies had been up to while they were at Disney Quest. :rotfl: We made it to the Boardwalk around 8:15 and headed to the ESPN club to check-in for a table - which we received rather quickly - like in under 10 minutes I believe.

WDW377.jpg

WDW204.jpg

Okay, so I know this isn't the most "give you that Disney feeling" kind of restaurant, but OMG the food definitely makes up for it!!!!!! EVERYTHING that was ordered was delicious and we were most pleased at our decision to have dinner here! :thumbsup2 We took our time at this meal and enjoyed each other's company - and of course laughed at all of the off-handed comments that Kimberly made during the night. I don't remember them all, but I'm sure DH will refresh my memory during our He Said/She Said recap at the end of my TR. The night was a lot of fun, and we left the Boardwalk feeling full and content. Oh, I almost forgot, because of how tired we all were by the time we finished with dinner, we chose to return to Pop via a cab. We split up (4 and 4) and had 2 TOTALLY different experiences as far as cab rides go!!!! Me, DH, Christy and Kyle had a spotlessly clean cab, quiet driver, and a very smooth ride . . . while the other 4 had a "smelly" (I'll spare you the details on what the scent was ), high paced, life flash before your eyes kind of ride - I'll let Katie expound on that if she should so choose. :rolleyes1 Anyhoo, we made it back to Pop and all headed off to our rooms for some much needed shut-eye. Next up on ur schedule - Hollywood Studios! Would we make it for morning EMH???? Would we get to ride TSMM, RNRC or ToT????? You'll have to stay tuned to find out . . .

Yeay!! Y'all are such a 'lively' group to say the least! :rotfl: Can't wait for the Hollywood studios part! It's my FAVORITE park!

Mel, great updates! I tried to read and comment last night but the dang boards were down!

Animal Kingdom....

The picture on Everest…cracks me up! :rotfl2: Do you ever wonder if the two guys in front of you, who look scared to death, bought their ride picture? LOL! :lmao: They look scared, plus they have two sets of kissing people in the pic! Too funny! I might have to steal a few of your ride picture ideas when Shawn and I are there in May…too cute!

Yak and Yeti looks fabulous as always. I really want to try it someday…probably not in May though…next trip after that!!! :thumbsup2

The picture of the bird flying toward them at the FOW show..ewww….I had to duck.... and I’m not even there! Birds freak me out a bit! :scared1:

Downtown Disney...

Basin sounds really nice. I would love it if I had a bathtub big enough to enjoy a real soak because I would certainly be buying some of those bath bombs! They sound fabulous!

Your Ghiradelli treats sound yummy!

Love all of your "Ladies Night Out" pics! Goofy and Pluto have never looked more pleased! :lmao:
