A Halloween Adventure in Autism (11/7) Prayer Request for Catie (p.129)

Sorry to hear the job wasn't the right fit for you... but the more interviews you do the closer you will get to the right job! :goodvibes

Kathy you will do what you think is best for you and your family. The right job with the right hours etc will come along for you. I will keep thinking good thoughts for you :goodvibes.

you need to do what feels right in your heart. Find a fit, not fit a find.

Sorry to hear the job wasn't the right fit for you... but the more interviews you do the closer you will get to the right job! :goodvibes

The right job will come along...patience! Good for you for not jumping into a job you knew wasn't right. :thumbsup2

Thanks for all your support!!

I consider myself fortunate that I have a job, even though its only part-time. Some people don't even have that blessing... ::yes::

Also, my apologies for the update delay! I just haven't had much time to DIS lately!

Kathy

Sorry the job didn't seem like a good fit for you. At least the interview went well, so you know how to "work it" when you do find the right fit! :thumbsup2
We'll be here when you have time to write more! :grouphug:

Good News: My second interview went well! :thumbsup2

Bad News: I've decided that I don't wish to pursue the job after all.

I was getting my hopes up so high that I even began dreaming of moving our trip up a year.... so of course I am a bit disappointed.

But, I have a few more calls out and the medical recruitment company will keep my resume in case anything good becomes available.

I need to catch up on a few reports and hopefully get another TR installment done this weekend! :yay:

Thanks for all the good wishes...

Kathy

Hey, if you're nit in it you can't win it. Good luck finding a better fit.

I'm all caught up and ready for more! I can't wait to see how touring DHS on a F! day is for you.

While you have success in one interview, I'm hoping to have the same success in another!

Read my PTR for more details ;)

Glad the interview went well, but sorry that it wasn't the right fit for you. Just means that you're one step closer to finding the one that is. :)

Just letting you know I'm still here Kathy! Glad you did well in your interview, despite it not being a good fit. The right one WILL come along- in Good time. :thumbsup2

Hopefully going through this interview gave you a clear idea of what you are hoping to find. I am sure it is out there!

I just found your TR yesterday and could not stop reading it! You are a Great writer! Can't wait for the rest!

While you have success in one interview, I'm hoping to have the same success in another!

Thanks, Meg... I'll be over soon! ;)

Sorry about the job, but I'm glad you were able to figure out that it wasn't for you....

The job was okay, it was the doctor I didn't like. I asked around and he has a very bad reputation.

One person said his nickname is "The Rapist!" :scared1:

I agree! Thanks!

Thanks. For now I am happy the doctor I work for has asked me to work one additional afternoon per week. Every little bit helps!

Hopefully going through this interview gave you a clear idea of what you are hoping to find. I am sure it is out there!

Thanks! Its hard to believe that a nurse has to look hard for a full-time job, but I'm in a small specialty (and a nice one at that), so there's a lot of competition.

I think knowing what you don't want....is really empowering. :goodvibes

Yes... I don't really want to work for a doctor whose nickname is "The Rapist!" As you may imagine, Ed was fine with me turning down the job!!

Hey, if you're nit in it you can't win it. Good luck finding a better fit.

Thanks, Hedy! Fortunately I've got my part-time job. It must be so hard to be out of a job and to be looking, especially in times like these! :sad2:

I'm really quite lucky.

.....And lucky to have such supportive friends like you guys! :grouphug:

Thanks! I want to finish writing before I start forgetting everything! :rotfl:

Hey there, stranger!! Got your message... hope Liam's evals yield lots of good information!

Update to follow...

Thanks! I'm an SLP with a soft spot/passion for little ones with Autism so your TR caught my eye. I'm so glad I popped in and am following.

That's great! And thanks for all the work you do with "our" kids!! :grouphug:

I just found your TR yesterday and could not stop reading it! You are a Great writer! Can't wait for the rest!

Thanks so much! Welcome! :cheer2:

I hope the links are helpful... I really like it when reports have links to posts... it makes it so much easier to catch up when you fall behind (which I often do!)

Chapter 22: Soaking Up Some Sunset
Day Three, continued:
Monday Morning,
November 2, 2009
Disney Hollywood Studios

I left off as Billy, Tricia, Catie and I were heading back inside for a second drop on Tower of Terror and Ed was on his way to Starring Rolls in search of sugar and caffeine.

Note: after reading my last installment, Ed advised me that in fact I was not sitting next to Billy on our first ToT ride... that must’ve been ride number two! He remembers that he was sitting next to Billy, across the aisle from the girls and me. Come to think of it, he’s right...I definitely remember Ed laughing about something at the time. Turns out when the elevator car dropped in the dark, Billy hooked arms with Ed and the man sitting on the other side... a complete stranger! When the lights came on Ed saw Billy holding on tight to gentleman’s arm and began to apologize. The man just laughed and said it was all right.

That’s the Disney spirit!

I also found a few more pictures taken earlier upon our arrival to the park just after 9:15 that show how light the crowds were that morning. Wasn’t this a Fantasmic Day? Was this the calm before the storm... or would the last-minute addition of more Fantasmic shows work to our advantage?

We've been in the habit of doing Animal Kingdom on Mondays, but I think we may make Monday our DHS day from now on!

As I said, Ed went off in pursuit of breakfast while the kids and I hopped onto the end of the ToT standby queue. It was a bit longer than it had been just a few minutes earlier, but still quite manageable. We had another fun, gravity-defying ride!

Naturally our next stop was nearby Rock ‘N Roller Coaster. All of us were pumped!

Just like she had been the day before when we rode Expedition Everest, Tricia was happy to finally have a ride partner in Catie. (She usually sits alone or with someone from the single rider queue if its busy, because Billy always wants to ride with me.) Standby was rather long so we used the GAC and got in the FP queue. The girls had many comments to make about the some of the posters... they insisted that they were way too old to be Hanna Montana fans! :snooty:

(Yet notice that Catie took a picture anyway.)

disneytrip2009catie1245-1.jpg

I felt way too old looking at some of the “retro” posters... I remember owning a few of them! I even remember when Aerosmith’s single, Walk This Way, first came out on the radio! (I was thirteen... the same age as Tricia and Catie.) Ah, the seventies!

Eventually we were admitted into the recording studio and the band invited us to meet them backstage at their concert...

(Can you see us, Mr. Tyler??)

As we queued up for our super-stretch limo in the studio’s garage Billy kept jumping up and down and flapping his arms wildly. Yes, he was excited because he was going to ride, but I think the loudness of the music was a little over-stimulating. Was it just my imagination or had they turned up the volume that day?

While we waited I must’ve warned the girls at least three times to keep their heads back against the headrest during the ride, especially at take-off. Because of her Marfan Syndrome, (see PTR), Catie has a genetic predisposition for osteoporosis, or weak bones. She usually wears a hard plastic back brace because of a curvature of the spine (scoliosis), but her doctor was allowing her to wear it only at night and not while riding rides while we were at Disney. I hadn’t been too worried about ToT because it just goes straight up and down, but the three inversions on R&RC were making me a bit nervous about Catie’s neck and back, even though her mom had specifically obtained permission from her doctor to ride it. Like I’ve said before... my niece is a coaster fiend!

We stepped into our limo and prepared for take-off. Billy squeezed my hand and stomped his feet excitedly. I said a little prayer and hoped the spirit would move the girls to actually listen to their mother/aunt and we would be spared any whiplash! I just recently learned that the song changes depending on which limo you get... this time our Aerosmith song was Love in an Elevator. I’m sooo glad Billy has no idea what the lyrics mean!

Up, down, and all around we went, racing along the L.A. Freeway (isn’t that an oxymoron?) as neon signs blurred in the darkness. Fast, loud, and fun! Naturally, the kids wanted to do it again. I put my foot down, though. Catie had fared well and I didn’t feel like pushing it. Besides, someone was waiting for us. We sailed through the rockin’ gift shop and back out to Sunset Boulevard.

The sky was still a hazy gray and it was beginning to feel a bit sticky. It was only ten o’clock and I was already starting to fantasize about the soft-serve frozen yogurt bar at Hollywood & Vine! Catie was craving something a bit meatier:

disneytrip2009catie1250-1.jpg

Now, you’ve already seen lots of pictures of my niece and so you know that she is tall and thin as a rail. Well, the joke is that when her family first visited WDW when she was six years old, she could polish off one of those giant turkey legs faster than her father could! And he’s a big guy!

“Mmmm! Turkey leg!” she exclaimed as she sniffed the air. “Aunt Kathy, I definitely have to get a turkey leg while I’m at Disney!” Unfortunately we had an early lunch ressie at Play & Dine so, for the moment, she had to put off satisfying her craving. She had to settle for taking a picture of the turkey leg stand!

We sent a message to Ed using Catie’s phone. (Remember, Tricia and I still had no battery power in ours.) He was sitting on a bench across from Starring Rolls drinking his coffee, so we began walking in that direction. Along the way we ran into one of the Streetmosphere performers...

disneytrip2009kathy1972.jpg

disneytrip2009tricia1535-1.jpg

Bucky asked several of us where we came from then made up a little song to the tune of She’ll Be Comin’ Round the Mountain:

“They’ll be comin’ from New Jersey/Pennsylvania/Ohio when they come…”

Billy loves any kind of music, so he started dancing and clapping...

disneytrip2009kathy1973-1.jpg

Bucky ate up all the attention... he was singing and playing his little heart out!

I like to play along with the streetmosphere performers, so I began clapping along and stomping my foot to the music. I even threw in a little “Yee-Ha!” Tricia was horrified.

She sidestepped away from me, but quick! Thankfully, her dad was waiting so we didn’t stay for the entire bit. Tricia’s public humiliation was over.

For now! (Mwah Ha Ha Ha!)

As expected, we found Ed waiting for us on a bench. Somewhat unexpected was that he had just sat down to begin drinking his coffee! “It was really crowded in there,” he explained, "and the coffee was burning hot!"

disneytrip2009kathy1975-1.jpg

A little something to go with that coffee... a chocolate-covered Rice Krispie treat! (Vacation Breakfast!)

disneytrip2009kathy1976-1.jpg

Mmmm... Billy looks interested, doesn't he?

disneytrip2009kathy1977-1.jpg

The girls decided to go look at one of the pin carts and I passed the time by taking a few pictures...

disneytrip2009tricia1525-1.jpg

disneytrip2009kathy1978-1.jpg

(I asked Billy to stand next to the car for a picture and he put his leg up on the running board for a pose! I just thought that was funny!)

disneytrip2009kathy1979-1.jpg

A couple of days earlier I had forgotten to pack my extra memory card in my park bag... today my camera's battery ran low and I forgot to pack the extra lithium batteries I had brought from home!! :headache: Wound up paying a small fortune for some camera batteries in this shop!!

disneytrip2009kathy1980-1.jpg

Perusing Pins...

disneytrip2009kathy1981-1.jpg

Catie had a pin lanyard from her family's last trip to WDW in 2005, but she didn't think she would want to wear one. Well, after a few days of looking at all the cloisonne beauties with her cousin she broke down and got herself a new one... and a few starter pins.

Told you she loves Maleficent!

disneytrip2009kathy1982-1.jpg

As usual, Tricia chose to browse only. She likes to wait until later in the trip before she chooses the newest additions to her pin collection.
