A Halloween Adventure in Autism (11/12) New Thread Begun on TR Board!

I've been surfing all over the web lately and picking up all sorts of info!

(Tricia says that "surfing the web is, like, so OUT, Mom!")

But, you all know what I mean!

So, you're trying to figure out how to get from here to there or from there to here on property using Disney transportation? The folks at Our Laughing Place have got a service called "Transportation Whiz" that can take the guessing out of your situation:

As the old saying goes, what will they think of next?

Whoops, almost forgot pic of the day:

Here's me and my best bear at Pooh Corner in Downtown Disney...

I know all those Iphone WDW apps are crazy!

I don't knowing some stuff, but this takes planning to a whole new level. I guess it can be useful though.

Figuring out how to get from one place to another is such a useful skill! Seriously, it can make a great day take a turn south pretty quickly if you are stranded somewhere without a clue-- ie. resort to resort, or resort to park after busses stop running, etc...

Love that bear!!

Wow....cool link! I seriously need that because I am not good at Disney transportation. All these iphone apps really make me want one!

Warning: You are entering a whining zone!

Well, you already know that our trip budget took a hit because of my dentist bill. Now we've had another unexpected expense: Ed dropped his cell phone on a concrete floor and it was destroyed. He really needs one for work, so it was a necessary replacement. :sad2: There goes another couple of hundred dollars... even with a rebate.

I was already pushing it by planning a vacation this year, only one year after our total home reconstruction. Paying that big boy off has been a real strain on our monthly budget. Plus, we're just coming off back-to-school expenses and college tuition for Eddie.

I'm afraid we'll have to use a credit card for our dining plan... I really didn't want to do that... and Christmas is just around the corner. :worried:

I was getting so excited but now I'm feeling so guilty... and a bit sad. Ed says we'll probably have to skip 2010. :sad1:

Guess I'll just have to squish two years worth of magic out of this trip!

I start panicking about money every year before our trips. That we should have saved it, spent it one something "more important", saved it for holiday expenses, etc, etc.

But you know what...once you forget there, you'll forget all about it and remember that the family time is far more important than a little extra money in the bank (IMO anyway)

whining allowed.

Those are the kinds of unexpected expenses that make the best of us super cranky. Ok not so much BTS or college tuition...but dentist and cell phone.

I hate having to use credit for vacation either. Hopefully at least you can use a Disney visa for the dining plan, get some reward points and 6 months with no interest on it?

I hear you though, it's going to be a very slim Christmas around here.

Awww, Kathy, that's too bad. Sorry to hear you might not be going in 2010, but you know what? Sometimes fate has a way of delivering surprises to us; you are such a wonderful person, and I bet that something will happen to make your trip happen next year. I'm not sure what, but I have a good feeling! :wizard:

Please don't feel too sad about what's going on...it's called Life, and we just can't do anything about it. Heck, I haven't been able to make it back to WDW since 2005, and I'm suffering MAJOR withdrawl. I know I'll make it back someday, though...:cloud9:

Hi Kathy!

Don't feel guilty..... I've been feeling more and more lately that it's the family time spent together or 'events' in life that are so much more important than the objects bought or 'things' in life.

Maybe Christmas will be scaled back to cope but you'll be together and will have the wonderful memories from this trip to last a lifetime!

Hi Kathy!! Sorry about those unexpected expenses that have popped up!! I always feel guilty about the money too... but our kids are only young once, right?? :confused3 And it's not like you can cancel your trip now...

I love that transportation tool - I used that one (or one that looked very similar) this year when we stayed at CBR - it was really helpful. I think mousescrapper or MRYPPNS told me about it.

I know all those Iphone WDW apps are crazy!

I never knew...

I don't knowing some stuff, but this takes planning to a whole new level. I guess it can be useful though.

Especially for first-timers!

I really wanted him, but I resisted! pooh:

I didn't know that "surfing the web" was no longer an "in" phrase -- what are we supposed to say instead?

Per Tricia you're supposed to say, "I'm online." If you say that you're "surfing" it pegs you as being old. :rolleyes2

So I said, "Whew, that's a relief, because I am old!"

Wow....cool link! I seriously need that because I am not good at Disney transportation. All these iphone apps really make me want one!

They are tempting...

I suppose its like Buyer's Remorse...

I shouldn't complain; there are lots of folks that are going to have a much slimmer Christmas than we will. It's guilt talking. So many people are struggling and here we are going off to Disney...

I actually did think about how much $$ we would lose by cancelling (I would cancel if it was truly an emergency, which its not) and its not worth it, really.

Thanks for the arm around the shoulder!

:hug:Sorry you have been feeling nervous. I was feeling guilty too, after all we were just there in January.

But I have had a very stressful month, and now I feel as if a vacation is a much needed break from work, some really strange neighbors, and the chaos that the roads around here have become.

Family Time is really important. DH and I believe it is money well spent. A trip to Disney is always very good for helping our family spend some stress free time together without the stress of Daily Living. No work, no school, no distractions.

I washed my phone a couple years ago (in the washing machine). Rather than replace it I just used the phone I had previously. Do you have an older phone that he could use?

All caught up, wow one month away, :yay::woohoo::banana::cool1:

I know about unexpected expenses, but hey, like the others said, once you and your family are enjoying some good family fun together at the happiest place at earth it will all be worth it.

I'm so looking forward to our escape from reality next year, and some "real" family time together with no daily stresses of every day life.

So do you have any planning left to do? Or is everything pretty much done at this point?

I totally understand the money squeeze.....

You are allowed to be happy, sad or whiny with us...

Ha! He went right out and bought one the same day!
Of course, I did buy a new camera and then tell him about it afterward, so, I suppose we're even! :rolleyes1

Family vacation time is important; when else do we spend so much concentrated time with each other?

Just the packing and last-minute stuff... costumes are 90% together! :thumbsup2

I have to remember that we're investing in our children's memories...

Kathy

What a bummer to hear about the phone- esp. just on the heels of that darned tooth! Things like that can certainly start to add up and become stressful, esp. if you're already stretching things!!

Don't worry about whining here! We're all in this together; the good, the wonderful and the stressful!

Whine away, Kathy! I can totally sympathize! Before we went on our trip this past weekend, I was so conflicted about it and thinking of all the things we could do with that money instead. Charles made sure we went ahead with the trip though, and I am so glad he did -- I think creating memories is one of the most important things. Just remember, the kids won't be young forever and these trips are great ways to spend time together as a family!

Bummer about the cell phone. My son dropped mine on the driveway in the dark and then stepped on it and broke it in half. I felt guilty about having to replace it so soon, but this stuff happens. (And I actually like the new one soooooo much more).

Anyway, I think everyone feels a little guilty about money right before they go away. It's normal (unless you're independantly wealthy). I agree with what CP said - making the memories is priceless.

Kathy

Exactly! :goodvibes And what an investment it is! Returns on it are great! :thumbsup2

I got a little bit of the "guilty nerves" going on when we booked out trip for February - final payment due: December 23rd! Yikes!

You are so close Kathy! I'm getting very excited for you guys! :dance3:
