A Guide to Going to Disney on Your Birthday!

I was at EPCOT this past year,October 1st.I was celebrating my 32nd and EPCOT its 25th.Got there just in time for the rededication ceremony and also got to see the conversation with Marty Sklar, the only downer of the day was the showers that popped up just before the special Illuminations fireworks, but thet were still able to get them in,all in all one of the better birthdays by far!!

Ok, so i've been on the boards for a little while now. :wave2: And im becoming obbsessed. (the sad part is i know just about everything everyone posts about,i mean i was identifying with "you know youve been on the boards to long" post) so simply a newbie to the board, definitly not to disney world..)

So i noticed that not many people have (recently anyway) talked about Disney Birthdays. Yes, here and there ive seen comments.

I've been going to Disney on my birthday almost my whole life. Now in the beginning, i'll admit, i didnt know about the pins (more later..) I didnt know just how amazingly magical a day can be. And being the attention hog that i am, i EAT IT UP. So, just in case you've never been on your birthday. I would like to share my favorite birthday tips with you, since i go every year.... :earboy2:

-Now that i take my friends AND family with me. :grouphug: We make shirts. These shirts always look like Mickey Mouse Club :earsboy: shirts on the front. (Ie..they say your name) And than they have a cute quote on the back. This year everyone's shirt says "Today is my Un-Birthday" And my shirt says "Today is my Birthday!!!" (i know..clever) These shirts come in handy if youd like everyone in the park to know you. All day long "Stephenie, Josh, Brian, Kendra, Steve, Kenny!!! Hey! nice shirts!" Its great. Ntm. If a CM wants to wish you a happy birthday over a loudspeaker, they have your name. And they catch EVERYONE's eye.

- Obviously you have to get THE pin. Not a pin. THE pin. THE **FREE** Disney birthday pin. You can pick it up at any of the disney parks. In Town Hall, from a ticket taker, or at the ticket purchasing window (or just ask a CM). The one at MK and MGM are the same, (castle, characters) While the ones at Epcot and Animal Kingdom are different. If you dont do the shirts. Half of the cast members will at least notice the pin and make your day special. (PS they do not check ID, so if your birthday is the 15th, and you're celebrating on the 10th, they dont care. I asked a CM and their mentality is " You can celebrate your birthday at disneyworld at any time of the year" Nice..)

- When you make reservations, Let EVERYONE know it is your (or your DS, DD, DW, or DH's) birthday. :bday:Disney goes to extremes by decorating your hotel room, giving you autographed pictures of characters, and other magical things, and ive found that even some hotels off-site will participate in the magic as well. (ive received cards from staff along with confetti all over the bed, even as much as a cake from one hotel..)

::MickeyMo **If you are shy and dont like attention...Stop reading here..** ::MinnieMo

-Buy an autograph book. I purchase mine from Ebay before we go. Keep it and a pen with you at the parks. With your shirt and your pin, a LOT of people are going to recognize you because its your birthday. These people (characters, CM's and theme park patrons) Will wish you a Happy Birthday all day. EVERY TIME SOMEONE WISHES YOU A HB. Ask them to sign the book. Reg. guests are ENTHRALLED to be apart of your day. Characters will do it on their own, and CM's get excited to be apart of your day. Then when you get home, it is an AWESOME souvenier/scrapbook.

- Make a priority seating reserv. at a restaraunt in disney. When you make that reservation, tell them whos birthday it is and pre-order a cake. (cheapest cake is like 15 dollars and its delicious.) (even if its your own and your making the reservation..yuo can surprise yourself.) If you nothing about disney, i suggest reading these boards for a good restaraunt. If you are a mod. disney expert and you know most of the restaraunts, even if you havent visited.. THINK about yuor family, your needs and how much attention you want. Places like the hoop-de-doo revue (sp..?) Embarrass the heck out of you. The Sci-Fi Drive in theater, gives you a nice free dessert. THINK about the restaurant, common (disney) sense will tell you how much attention you will get.

- Take pictures at normal photo opp places. Only, ask a random theme park patron to take the picture for you. Be polite and ask their name, when they tell you, tell them you've changed your mind and you want them in the picture. Continue doing this for about 8 people. Than you, (the birthday person) get in the picture and have someone take the picture. (this sounds stupid. But the conversations that ensue, plus the memory of the picture are priceless.) :rotfl2: :rotfl:

- Be prepared for extreme embarassement... and fame. As time goes on, especially if you stay at one park all day, people will recognize you. "Your the girl they shut down space mountain for!" *that seriously happened BECAUSE it was my birthday....private ride through the stars anyone..?* At the fantasmic show the castmember noticed my pin and shirts, and had me stand up, Bottom, center and had the WHOLE CROWD sing Happy Birthday before the show started. I received numerous fast passes, and line cuts. But the singing is what they do best..... it happened on almost every ride that involved more than 10 people per boat, or show room. :rolleyes1

- Be prepared to receive free gifts and many many many phone calls. Every CM you encounter will ask you if youve received a phone call. Always say no. You will then get a special phone call, each time. At a shop, a CM gave me (very ceremonially) An antenna topper in honor of my birthday. I've received a picture frame in Fantasy Land. And several Magical Moments Certificates. plus much more. :cloud9:

- Be modest, gracious and thank everyone. :goodvibes :wave2: :love1: :love2: There is no where else in the world you can go and be treated like this for your birthday. If after reading this you are pondering your own small children, know, this is an extreme birthday version, it can be sized accordingly to what your kids like, and how old they are. But anything you can imagine Disney can do. (sometimes with a price..)

-If you live in Florida, there is no excuse that you havent had a disney birthday. If you live in FL, we get mad discounts.
And just to tell you for $$ sake. I am a college student. I am POOR! I save up money from pay checks all year to buy my annual pass and than it costs me under 200 dollars for 4 people to stay for 3 days, 2 nights. That includes hotel stay and food. If you want my secrets to that, let me know. I am an expert at this Disney planning stuff.

So those are my secrets. I think that is all. And it all may sound a little too much. But you will be on cloud 9 :cloud9: after a day of that much attention. After all yuor birthday only falls once a year.

Now, im sure there has to be someone out there like me, so tell me your tips! I'm going April 1-3rd. And cant wait. PS.. I'll be 20 this year! :mickeybar woo 2-0! :bday:

Thanks for reading guys and have a great day!

We are going April 14-May 3rd. Our wedding anniversary falls on the 16th of April. My birthday is in May. [The 18th]. I wont be making any shirts but the rest sounds good. Im trying to figure out if I should wear an Anniversary button AND a birthday button. If I do that will I get double the surprises?

We will be there dor ds's 5th bday. We didnt plan it in particular for hsi bday, but it just so happened that hsi bday fell when the best tiem for us to go is. My bday is 2 days before we arrive. Id liek to do soem of this, btu have a few questions.

On noting on ressies...we booked ours online...how do we get it noted that we will be there for ds's bday? We are staying at AKL. And while I am at it, do you think i should mention celebrating my bday too? We arent doing anythign special for my bday since it is 2 days before we go to Disney, so it might be nice to be pampered some at the start!

On the buttons. I am not up on all the lingo here, although i have figured out most restaurant and resort abbreviations. I havent been to Disney in 18 years(well will be 18 when we go this summer) sad, huh? Where exactly do you get the buttons? We have preorderd tickets, so we dont have to wait inline to get them, but that seems to be one place to get them.

On reservations for dinner. We did our ADR but I didnt think to mention it then. We are planning on ordering a cake for ds's bday, but how do we let the restaurants know its a bday. Do we just call back the adr hotline number and have it noted? Do you think that celebratign my bday 4 days late at the coral reef is bad?(the first day we are at a park, we will be going to CRT and I dont want my bday to take away from the experience for the kids, as I booked there for them) WE will be at LTT character dinner on ds's actual bday.

Sorry if this has all been covered.

and now that ds is goign to have such a killer bday,i am going to have to find soemthign awesome for ds1 and dd2 on their bdays (which fall during the school year and close to Halloween in Christmas)!!! Im in trouble!

ok, I saw you can get buttons at the hotels and customer service. I recalled the adr hotline and got my bday for coral reef (which is actually on my dads bday!lol) and ds's for ltt.

So, now for the hotel. do you call the reservation hotline, or some other number to get that added?

When we go again, we will be celebrating our 12th anniversary AND DS's 5th BDay.

We'll be staying Poly Concierge - so hopefully DS will get at least one of he OP's surprises that she mentions.....

we will be celebrating 3 BDays and possibly one Graduation during our trip! Thanks for the great info:flower3:

We are actually driving there on DS~to be 8's BDay (not much fun being in the car on your BDay), so when we get there it won't be his "actual Bday" but it will still be one Big Bday celebration for him. I love the Bday Tshirt idea with "It's my B-day" on it and on the others "It's my Unbirthday" May I should change it thought to "Celebrating my Bday" and Celebrating my Unbirthday" for the rest of us on that first day.
Is it bad to do this two days in a row? We arrive one day before the rest of our family (my DM, DA(aunt), DC1,and DC2) and my DA's Bday is on the same day as DS's so once they arrive we will be doing another combined celebration.

Then my daughter's Bday is actually in July but there is no way we are making a return trip for that week so I decided to have a special Bday Celebration for her too while we are there. We were going to the Castle but don't want to spend 2 TSMs so now we are going to Akershaus instead on our last full day of our trip.

Any helpful hints at how to celebrate a 16 year old boy's birthday? He wanted to dive in the tank at EPCOT for his 16th birthday so we are going and will be there on the day of his actual birthday. I want to make a day of it and order a cake--any more ideas for a teenager?

Thanks and happy Valentines day!!!!

I don't have any ideas for you. Just wanted to let you know that we will be in Disney for dd 16 birthday. We may plan the segway tour for the day of her birthday. She LOVES attention so I plan on making her a tshirt and possibly shirts for her younger siblings that says "my big sister is 16 today" kinda silly I know. Two years ago we left the world the day before her birthday so we had cake at O'hana's but didn't do anything else. This year because it is her 16th and because we will be there on her actual birthday we want to make it special.
Good luck planning your son's birthday

My and my sister are going on a birthday trip. BUT its not on our birthday. Our birthday is May 19th (when we are in school) we are going right out of school on June 9th. This sounds awesome..maybe ill keep pretending ;)

This is a great guide!! :)

In 2005, DH wanted to volunteer to participate in that show at DHS where they put on the yellow fishermen suits and pretend they are getting bombed on the boats (can't remember the name of that ride!) Anyway, I knew what was going to happen when he said he was going to volunteer and didn't tell him. He LOVED it--And I love watching him turn into a kid again!

So this Dec, I want to surprise him with a birthday pin on the day we arrive along with a t shirt or maybe a hat. I won't tell him what might happen, and that way any little thing that happens will be a surprise.

So here (finally) is the purpose of this post. If I have a friend who is going down in May pick up a bday pin for me, do you think the style of the pin will change by the time we get there in Dec? Mickey has been known to leave surprises in our hotel room every time we visit for the kids (like surprise ADR's, Disney t shirts, etc.) I really want Mickey to leave DH his button.

TIA!

Long time lurker here....
Our 40th wedding anniversary is in July 2009. We are celebrating (early) with a trip to the World in December 2008 (hubby works for an "entertainment park" here in PA and cannot get off during peak summer months) (and we don't "enjoy" the Florida heat in July!). Would it be "wrong" to say we are celebrating our 40th in December - so much in advance?
Also, thanks to all Disers for their advice and info through the years.

(hubby works for an "entertainment park" here in PA.

And which park would that be? I see you are in Bucks County, dare I ask-
Sesame Place ??? LOL I am originally from Bucks....maybe Great Adventure (just a quick/slow drive to NJ).....

I don't think it would be wrong.... We can't (won't) go during the summer, and that is when DD's birthday is... we always go another time of year to celebrate her birthday...

I love guest birthdays at Disney. I've been known to have everyone in the theater at CoP sing to them.

It was because of my 43rd birthday that I started working at WDW. I've posted this before on here, but it really fits this thread.

My DW was working on my birthday. She worked at the Emporium at the time, and rather than spend my birthday at home alone with the dog, I decided to go to the Magic Kingdom. I could at least stop in and say hi to her at work.

I wandered around the MK for most of the day, going on some of the rides, and feeling pretty lonely. It's not fun to spend your birthday alone, surrounded by happy people. Anyway, I was standing outside the Emporium waiting for the SpectroMagic parade to start and a guest services CM started chatting with me. I mentioned that it was my birthday and she asked me where my button was. I told her that I didn't know what she was talking about. (I didn't) She told me that when the parade was over, she wanted me to wait right where I was.

I watched the parade and right afterwards, she came back and reminded me to wait for her. About 5 minutes later, she came back, pinned a birthday button on me and wished me a magical birthday. I thanked her and went on my way, back into the park. For the rest of the evening, people wished me Happy Birthday, and insisted on celebrating with me.

That one gesture by a CM turned a lonely day into a great day for me. I decided right then that I wanted to be a part of making some of that magic for someone else. So, I went down to Casting and applied. They hired me on the spot and I've spent every working day since making magic.

OK, enough about me. Well, no, its not. Who wants to know more about me?

My DH is turning 50 in August and I am turning 50 in October. We can't get away until November - you know I am getting buttons for the 2 of us!! Can't think of a better place to celebrate than WDW (of course we are going on the Wonder for 4 days first!) Last year Wes Palm sang Happy Birthday to me at AK. It was great!

What about if it's your anniversary? My friend is going this fall for their 25th anniversary.
