Hello Everyone and thanks for checking out my trip report! :goodvibes

Welcome to my TR! I seriously cannot believe our trip is already over. All the planning and it’s done in the blink of an eye! Does anybody else feel like that when they come home? I always do!

Here is a little background on this trip: me and my DF Kyle took our very first vacation just the two of us to Disney June 6-13th!! We were so excited for this! If you want to know a little bit more about us, check out my January trip report which features our Disney engagement (yay!) and my PTR to this trip. My mom generously paid for half of the vacation as my graduation present. Last month I graduated with my Masters in special education from UConn, and two days before we left I landed an awesome new teaching position! So we had lots to celebrate…and celebrate we did! Here we go!

Chapter One: And away we go!! Saturday, June 6th.

I’ll actually start with Friday, the day before we left. I was fortunate to have the day off from my part time summer job so I finished packing and checked us into both the airline and the hotel (LOVE the online hotel check-in, more on that later!) This is when my back got bad (I pulled it out in March and it has been nagging me off and on every since). I think it was because I was so anxious about it bothering me leading up to this trip…it hadn’t been really bad for a few weeks, but all of the sudden it flared up. I was so scared that it would hinder me from enjoying the trip since the pain makes long walks and standing for long periods so hard. I stretched and tried to push it out of my mind, I was determined to have fun in Disney no matter what!! I got all the last minute stuff done then decided to rest it by reading other peoples TRs. This really got me excited!!

DF and I don’t live together (we are waiting until we are married) so when he was out of work that evening, I drove to his apartment to pick him up. We stopped at this really yummy flatbread place that serves all organic food on the way home. I am by no means a super healthy eater, as you will see from my food pics in this TR, but it was awesome. Sorry that’s off topic but the place is soo yummy! Then we went to Barnes and Noble to get stuff to read on the plane. DF got a sports magazine and I got a New York Times crossword puzzle book, which was supposed to be easy but turned out being SO hard. Or maybe I’m just really bad at them haha!

We drove back and stayed at my house since my parents would be driving us to the airport the next morning. I tried to go to sleep early, but it just didn’t work. I finally dozed off after reading for a bit to relax at about 11:30. My alarm went off at 4:15 Saturday (yikes!) so that wasn’t much sleep, but I sprang out of bed because who really minds getting up early for vacation. (Hmmm DF might read this and say he does ) I said goodbye to my sister, who was also up because she had a plane to catch that day herself. She went to California the same week to visit our relatives who live there, and happened to be in Disneyland! We have been comparing trips ever since we got back.

We both showered and I threw my last minute stuff like my makeup and blowdryer into my nearly exploding suitcase (I brought enough clothes for about two weeks, you never know what you will be in the mood to wear!) and hopped in the car. My very kind, very sleepy parents both drove us, luckily its only 10 minutes down the road, and dropped us off at curbside check-in. That is when we encountered a bit of a mess… :headache:

I don’t know if anyone else has experienced any confusion with the Delta vs. Northwest thing. Apparently they are one in the same now, so even though our tickets said Delta, we were told last minute that it would really be a Northwest flight. So after we wait in line for about 10 minutes to check our bags, the curbside check in guy told us for some reason that also meant we had to wait in the line inside. So we trek inside to find very long lines and more confusion over which airline to check in with. Jeesh! Good thing we got their early, by the time we made it through the chaotic line and waited FOREVER for them to print our luggage stickers, we’d spent almost an hour just waiting to get to security. At least that part didn’t take us long. We kicked off the shoes, through the bags up on the belt, and were through with no problems. Smooth sailing from here? Wrong!

We walk over to get some breakfast at the Dunkin Donuts near our gate, the last thing on the agenda before we were set to board the flight. We both get cranky when we have no food (or coffee in my case!) so this stop was a must! Well, whatever geniuses run this DD decided it’s perfectly fine to only have one person run it by themselves at 6am. On a Saturday. In the airport. Needless to say, we waited for what felt like another hour just two get a coffee, a bagel, and a muffin. By the time we walked to our gate, the verrrrry last one at the end of the terminal, and sat down to eat, our flight started boarding. I was too excited to finish my muffin (besides, it was chocolate chip and I tend to drop things on myself…not a good idea in a white hoodie on a plane ride) so I trashed it and practically ran onto the plane.

In the next chapter…we finally get to Disney! Do you make our Prime Time ADR? What will the crowds be like? How will Kyle and Lauren do with their first entire week spent just the two of them?!
All this and more coming very soon so stay tuned! And sorry for the lack of pictures…I was too focused on getting there to take any, but there are TONS for the rest of the report, so no worries. In case you are more of a visual person, here are some teaser pics to hold you over! Consider them a snapshot of the wonderful TR to come ;)

We enjoyed the carousel...

But not before hanging out with Eeyore and company...

And OF COURSE we revisit the spot where DF proposed!

I suppose I should follow along with this one, huh?

Yay you are here! I forgot to tell you I started this, sorry dear. Feel free to jump in and post if I forget anything :cutie:

Ok let’s finish up this boring travel part and get to the good stuff! We boarded the plane and found our seats towards the back pretty quickly. Since each row had three seats, we had prepared ourselves to be getting cozy with a stranger for the next three hours. We did not expect this third party to be so chatty! Kyle had kindly offered to take the dreaded middle seat so I could stretch out a bit more given my back issues. Our new found friend, a cheerful middle aged woman traveling alone, immediately noticed that Kyle was wearing a Red Sox shirt so she chatted him up about baseball. He isn’t as outgoing as me so he tried to make some small chat, but I could tell he really just wanted to rest! She talked non stop for about half an hour, offered us snacks, tried to trade magazines, even stole an ice cube from Kyles drink!! She was very interesting, so interesting that I fished out my ipod and watched a movie, kindly offering Kyle an earbud. Even though it was The Holiday and he hates chick flicks, he quickly accepted so that he could avoid the awkward conversation with our new friend!

Other than that, the flight was smooth and uneventful. I practically ran off the plane, stopping only so Kyle could catch up. You could immediately feel the heat and see the palm trees and I felt truly relaxed for the first time in months. After a quick pee break (I hate going on the plane) we jumped on the monorail, everyone's first official Disney ride. Woo hoo!

Holding on tight, this ones a wild ride!

We made our way to the Magical Express. The handy little map in our booklet made it so easy to find. Even having been to Disney so many times, I’ve actually never taken this before since we usually rent a car. I’m a dork and love all things Disney, even buses, so I was excited to give it a whirl. The line was thankfully short, and I called my mom quick just to tell her we’d made it safe and thank her for the millionth time for this amazing gift. We’d only been talking for ten minutes or so when it was time to head to All Stars though.

The only time you can be excited to get on a coach bus!
100_0532.jpg

I thought the movie was really cute. But I was torn between watching it and looking out the window and taking pictures. I was literally bouncing in my seat. Kyle found this to be very funny. When we finally passed through those wonderful gates everyone on the bus let out a cheer!

100_0534.jpg

We saw the entrance to DHS on the way by too. We’d be passing through there very soon so I thought Id take a quick picture.

100_0535.jpg

About 45 minutes later, after stops at Sports and Music, we were at All Star Movies. I’ve stayed at Music before. I think they are cute, I prefer the theming at Movies. We went inside to find a massive check in line despite it being only 11am. Thank god I checked in online! Tucked in the corner was a separate area for this and there was no one in it. It took 2 seconds to get our folder of info and our Keys to the Kingdom cards. Even Kyle was very thankful of all my neurotic planning at that moment, and we both amazed at how smoothly it all went. We found out our room request had gone through! We were on the third floor of Mighty Ducks building 3. Now we just had to wait until later to find out if it was a King bed since it was still too early for the room to be ready.

We paused in all of our excitement and decided to make a game plan. It was clear at this point that we would definitely make our Prime Time ADRs, but those weren’t for another 2 hours and we were starving since we’d had breakfast at 6. So we decided to split a CS meal credit to hold us over at the food court, and then check out the resort a little before heading to DHS.
I saw this sign immediately upon entering the World Premier area.

100_0537.jpg

I took it as a sign that this resort was a good choice given what we were celebrating!!
Kyle and I decided to split the chicken quesadilla meal. It came with rice and beans. We got a mickey rice crispy treat with chocolate ears for dessert. I was excited since those were a favorite of mine.

100_0540.jpg

We headed over to a window seat to soak up that FL sun and the view of the Fantasia pool.

100_0542.jpg

The quesadilla was pretty good, we were pleasantly surprised. The rice krispy treat was just ok, not as good as I remember them. A little too mushy, if that makes any since. Kyle refused to eat any of the chocolate part, not even a tin bit of it. He hates chocolate. One of the few areas where we are complete opposites!

Now that our stomachs were no longer growling, we headed outside to check out the resort. We checked out the pool area. The Dalmatians section was so cute!

100_0544.jpg

Ummm, Kyle are you shooting the poor puppy?
100_0545.jpg

Then we checked out the Duck Pond Pool and see where the room was located. It was all very cute, love the Disney theming!

100_0546.jpg

100_0549.jpg

I had read on the boards from people who had stayed in this section before that they found that it was much faster to walk across the street to the Music bus stop. We decided to try this, and the walk was super short. I think we only used our own bus stop twice the entire trip! We walked around the corner just as a DHS bus was pulling up, woo hoo! Loved the little balloons on the side of everything
100_0550.jpg

At this point the sky had turned black and it looked like a thunderstorm was about to start. Sure enough, just as we were boarding the bus, the sky opened up and it started to pour! Hooray for lots of good timing this day!

We got to DHS and it was still raining a little, but we didn’t care. We were at Disney! We headed into the park to find a relatively small crowd for June. They were playing Star Wars music for the Star Wars weekends and TONS of people were dressed as the characters, it was funny.

100_0551.jpg

We didn’t know what to expect crowd wise because we rarely go in the summer, but the beginning of our week the crowds were very light. We decided to go to the Great Movie Ride first, since it was around noon and our ADR was coming up soon. The wait was about 20 mins, not bad but I think it would have been even shorter if it hadn’t been raining and people were trying to stay dry. This was the first place we experience the beauty of having only two people in your party…you get to cut line since they usually use the smaller parties to fill in the ride cars. This cut our wait by a few minutes :cheer2:

The tour guide this time was ok. Better than the two last year who were SO not into it. Boring GMR tour guides are a pet peeve of mine, as many of you saw in my last TR haha! We got the mobster scene this time instead of cowboy one for the first time in years so that was good too. As we were exiting, I decided to double check my itinerary to confirm the time of what I thought was our 1:30 lunch. Thank goodness I looked, because it was actually 1:05! Kyle looked at his watch, and it was 1:00. Phew, we ran over to Prime Time and checked in just in time. We sat in the little living room/lounge area and waited about 15 minutes to be seated, not bad.

I booked Prime Time because we love the food and the atmosphere is fun. But this time we didn’t get a very fun waitress. She was nice, but other than making us set the table, she didn’t really ham it up. We are definitely goof balls so we were a little disappointed. But the food definitely was as good as always! I got the meatloaf and Kyle got the pot roast. I tried some of his and it was even better than mine! He ate it in less than five minutes, literally. Mine was great too, but he finished that as well so that I had room for smores.

Mine:

Kyle teased me at the start of the trip about the food pictures, but by the end he was reminded me to take them before we started eating! Hahah
I also took a picture of the table tops. We laugh at these because my parents still have this style counter top! :rotfl:
100_0555.jpg

Checking out dessert in the cute viewfinder, love it!
100_0558.jpg

100_0560.jpg

Mmm they were so good! Still too sweet for me to eat the entire thing though. Kyle had the angel food cake and berries and really liked it.
100_0559.jpg

Overall the meal was great, but I don’t think we’ll go back next time. Too many other places we want to try!

I know you are all dying to hear what we did next, but I have to head to bed. When I return, I will finish up the rest of this wonderful jam-packed first day. How was Star War weekends? Do I finally make it to the Animation Studio? Stay tuned to find out! Thanks for reading! :goodvibes

Lovely update. We gained TEN pounds on our first week in Disney. We loved 50s PTC... sorry yours was only so-so!

i'm here, i'm here! Great start, Lauren, seems like a wonderful start to your trip. It's a Murphy's Law of flying: if you're alone and a little sad, the person next to you is grumpy or solitary and doesn't want to talk to you. If you're excited and just want to enjoy your partner's company quietly amongst yourselves, the person next to you is chatty and annoying. i've noticed this on every transatlantic flight i've ever been on.

Thanks Caitlin! I think we def gained some weight too, Dining Plan is amazing and killer at the same time! Do you remember your server's name from PTC? We had Amanda when we went in 08 and she was SO awesome we loved it, I wish we could have had her again.

Yay Hi Sare!! Thanks for reading, glad you are here! That is so true about flying  I also forgot to add that the woman in front of me decided to recline her seat to the point where she was lying in my lap. I could not move my legs at all, and they are very long so it was quite uncomfortable! Thankfully the return flight was SO MUCH better!

The same thing happened to me at PTC. The first time my mom and I went, we had a great time. Our server (whose name I can't remember...but I want to say Claire, maybe?) was fantastic. The second time we went, our server wasn't nearly as good. The food was still good, but it just wasn't quiiite the same.

I didn't have dessert either time I went, but looking at yours, it really makes me wish I had.

Looking forward to the rest of your TR!
