Hello Everyone and thanks for checking out my trip report!
Welcome to my TR! I seriously cannot believe our trip is already over. All the planning and its done in the blink of an eye! Does anybody else feel like that when they come home? I always do!
Here is a little background on this trip: me and my DF Kyle took our very first vacation just the two of us to Disney June 6-13th!! We were so excited for this! If you want to know a little bit more about us, check out my January trip report which features our Disney engagement (yay!) and my PTR to this trip. My mom generously paid for half of the vacation as my graduation present. Last month I graduated with my Masters in special education from UConn, and two days before we left I landed an awesome new teaching position! So we had lots to celebrate and celebrate we did! Here we go!
Chapter One: And away we go!! Saturday, June 6th.
Ill actually start with Friday, the day before we left. I was fortunate to have the day off from my part time summer job so I finished packing and checked us into both the airline and the hotel (LOVE the online hotel check-in, more on that later!) This is when my back got bad (I pulled it out in March and it has been nagging me off and on every since). I think it was because I was so anxious about it bothering me leading up to this trip it hadnt been really bad for a few weeks, but all of the sudden it flared up. I was so scared that it would hinder me from enjoying the trip since the pain makes long walks and standing for long periods so hard. I stretched and tried to push it out of my mind, I was determined to have fun in Disney no matter what!! I got all the last minute stuff done then decided to rest it by reading other peoples TRs. This really got me excited!!
DF and I dont live together (we are waiting until we are married) so when he was out of work that evening, I drove to his apartment to pick him up. We stopped at this really yummy flatbread place that serves all organic food on the way home. I am by no means a super healthy eater, as you will see from my food pics in this TR, but it was awesome. Sorry thats off topic but the place is soo yummy! Then we went to Barnes and Noble to get stuff to read on the plane. DF got a sports magazine and I got a New York Times crossword puzzle book, which was supposed to be easy but turned out being SO hard. Or maybe Im just really bad at them haha!
We drove back and stayed at my house since my parents would be driving us to the airport the next morning. I tried to go to sleep early, but it just didnt work. I finally dozed off after reading for a bit to relax at about 11:30. My alarm went off at 4:15 Saturday (yikes!) so that wasnt much sleep, but I sprang out of bed because who really minds getting up early for vacation. (Hmmm DF might read this and say he does
) I said goodbye to my sister, who was also up because she had a plane to catch that day herself. She went to California the same week to visit our relatives who live there, and happened to be in Disneyland! We have been comparing trips ever since we got back.
We both showered and I threw my last minute stuff like my makeup and blowdryer into my nearly exploding suitcase (I brought enough clothes for about two weeks, you never know what you will be in the mood to wear!) and hopped in the car. My very kind, very sleepy parents both drove us, luckily its only 10 minutes down the road, and dropped us off at curbside check-in. That is when we encountered a bit of a mess
I dont know if anyone else has experienced any confusion with the Delta vs. Northwest thing. Apparently they are one in the same now, so even though our tickets said Delta, we were told last minute that it would really be a Northwest flight. So after we wait in line for about 10 minutes to check our bags, the curbside check in guy told us for some reason that also meant we had to wait in the line inside. So we trek inside to find very long lines and more confusion over which airline to check in with. Jeesh! Good thing we got their early, by the time we made it through the chaotic line and waited FOREVER for them to print our luggage stickers, wed spent almost an hour just waiting to get to security. At least that part didnt take us long. We kicked off the shoes, through the bags up on the belt, and were through with no problems. Smooth sailing from here? Wrong!
We walk over to get some breakfast at the Dunkin Donuts near our gate, the last thing on the agenda before we were set to board the flight. We both get cranky when we have no food (or coffee in my case!) so this stop was a must! Well, whatever geniuses run this DD decided its perfectly fine to only have one person run it by themselves at 6am. On a Saturday. In the airport. Needless to say, we waited for what felt like another hour just two get a coffee, a bagel, and a muffin. By the time we walked to our gate, the verrrrry last one at the end of the terminal, and sat down to eat, our flight started boarding. I was too excited to finish my muffin (besides, it was chocolate chip and I tend to drop things on myself not a good idea in a white hoodie on a plane ride) so I trashed it and practically ran onto the plane.
In the next chapter we finally get to Disney! Do you make our Prime Time ADR? What will the crowds be like? How will Kyle and Lauren do with their first entire week spent just the two of them?!
All this and more coming very soon so stay tuned! And sorry for the lack of pictures I was too focused on getting there to take any, but there are TONS for the rest of the report, so no worries. In case you are more of a visual person, here are some teaser pics to hold you over! Consider them a snapshot of the wonderful TR to come
We enjoyed the carousel...
But not before hanging out with Eeyore and company...
And OF COURSE we revisit the spot where DF proposed!
Thats all for now folks!!
