A good, cool, hip carrier for older infant? Does this exist?

Our guy is 16 months and I'm wondering about holding him in ride lines for rides where he can go and we're not baby swapping....
I always carry him on my hip so something to keep him in that same position would be ideal....and less hot too I'm guessing. Any suggestions? We have an Ergo carrier, but that sounds so hot for a July trip!
Thanks :)

Ha...reread my title. Cool as in not hot and sweaty....I don't care if it's hip or trendy :)

Honestly, I don't know if any baby carriers would be considered "cool" or "hip". (Do kids today still call things cool and hip? ;))

Maybe a sling? You could get one in a lightweight fabric. I always just used my Ergo in a back carry at that age. I could never get the Ergo hip carry comfortable!

Ring sling or a Scootababy. The Scootababy is a buckle carrier specifically designed for hip carries.

Maybe take a look at Kinderpacks? I know they have, in the past, made them with a "koolnit" fabric designed to be more breathable and hot-weather appropriate. I'm pretty sure you can use them for hip carries as well. I'm not sure what their current stock is..it changes frequently. Check out their website as well as their FB page.

I use an ergo baby. They have a performance edition for hotter weather too but my little man loves his:)

That's excellent, I read the title and thought "She's raising a hipster?" ;>) I think things are still "cool", not sure about hip. But I'm old enough that "hip" is usually followed by "replacement."

I know lilebaby has a mesh carrier. I'm not sure you can do a hip carry with it though.

I'm planning to get Bitybean for the trip. They're local for me and people rave about how cool it is. Cool as in not hot :D

Not sure if anyone makes them anymore, but I had a mei tai made with mesh solarveil fabric.

But I couldn't do the hip carry much; it was just too off-center for me. The Ergo was great for back carries, and if I got overheated (talking about Disneyland, Sea World, and sightseeing in San Diego) I would hand him some water to drink. Inevitably some would get poured down my back. ahhhh. :)

Something else to consider if you choose to use your Ergo - you can get Frogg Toggs to put on the baby while in the carrier to keep the baby cool. Re-wetting them throughout the day keeps the Frogg Toggs cool, but they don't get whatever it is they are keeping cool wet at all. We even used these when DD was in the stroller to help keep her cool.

I used Ergo for 2 August trips and held a fan for my girl. Last summer, I also used Frogg Toggs. I love my Ergo and she didn't complaint about the hear. Too bad she finally grew out of it at 4.
