We just got back from a 3 day vacation at an amusement & water park (not Disney). Now this is only the 3rd vacation that the 4 of us have taken together (housing was 1st at regular hotel, 2nd with friends at OKW and 3rd at a regular hotel) so I'm not speaking from a lot of experience here. Looking at only the housing aspect of the vacations, DH and I agreed that buying into DVC seems to be the best step we've taken towards a happy time. Why?

1. The kids have their own bedroom. Trying to get all 4 of us to go to sleep at the same time at night and my toddler down for a nap during the day with her non-napping sister yapping away was next to impossible.

2. Kitchen facilities. Even the kids grew tired of amusement park and fast food. I just wanted something not fried!

3. Outdoor balcony space. The hotel was nice, I just wanted to feel fresh air at times. Plus DH and I would have had a place to sit and talk after the girls went to bed.

4. Washer & dryer. It was a pain to just even dry beach towels.

We've not even heard our first official "Welcome Home" while on vacation, but holy cow...what a difference DVC can make!

May I be the fiirst to say... WELCOME HOME!!party:

Dennis-

I tell ya, every time I go to WDW and stay at a DVC resort I get that same renewed this-is-the-best-purchase-ever feeling!

Welcome home neighbor!

Leenie74, I've been a DVC owner since 2000, we drive in 2 1/2 hours, as we pull up to the gate and I hand my ID over to the Guard and he says "WELCOME HOME" I remember and feel the same sense of euphoria that I felt the 1st time. Enjoy and let me "Welcome Home"pixiedust:

Welcome home! :) You have many years of wonderful vacations ahead of you!

From what I've been hearing, the CM's are just totally burnt out in these high seasons - any of the lower seasons and they are bursting with "Welcome Home" greetings. Go in June/July, Spring Break or Christmas and you tend not to hear that as much (but you'll hear how many hours of OT they've put in and how they're short-staffed, if you listen carefully). I feel sorry for the CM's in these seasons and what they have to endure.

Welcome Home!

From what I've been hearing, the CM's are just totally burnt out in these high seasons - !

The darn heat doesn't help any ones temperment either. Still, all in all I haven't had any grumpies @ OKW this Summer!

Let me just enter my personal experience on why its a good choice.
  • I have 5 children ages 22 down to 2. How many other places could we all go for a week and actually enjoy being together!! There have been times when my oldest has been in her own villa with a friend and other times where we have all been in the same villa. I love that we have that choice.
  • My youngest 4 were adopted. Two are visually impaired and losing their eyesight. One has major dietary restrictions and the little guy, well he's 2, what more need I say. Where else would my family be so accomodated? Nowhere! I have even been able to do vacations without DH-no problems. Over the 15 years when we used to foster children we were able to give beautiful vacations to kids who had so little.
  • My wedding anniversary falls during our upcoming trip. We have celebrated birthdays and adoptions at WDW. So very many memories of happy giggles and fun together. All of those "remember the time at Disney..." and so very many more of those to come!
  • My 83 yr old mom had been ill for many years. She took me on my first Disney trip way back when I was a little girl and there was only Magic Kingdom! This past year she took a turn for the worse. Her chronic lung disease and congestive heart failure along with diabetes was finally taking its toll. She came to live us and the plan was for her to join us when we moved into our dream home in May. Shortly before we moved in she worsened and was hospitalized. She remained in the hospital while we moved in and she died Memorial Day weekend without ever getting to see the inside of my new home. We miss her so much. It has been difficult for me and my kids to move on. Last week dh booked cheap airfare on Spirit and a 2 bdrm at SSR. We will be there in 9 days. We need this-to just go blow off steam and laugh. DVC makes this possible.
  • There have been many choices over the years that dh and I have made and later regretted. NEVER have we regretted DVC. It's not just about the rides and characters. It's about getting loose from our crazy schedules and finding to time to have fun TOGETHER as a family.
Ok, I'll shut up now! (Except for saying Welcome Home!)
