A Flu-Season Request

I always cover my mouth/nose by sneezing/coughing into my upper arm. The kids? Are kind of a crap shoot. Especially if they're otherwise focused. I hand sanitize the crap out of us when we go places with large amounts of people.

Yes agree. I Had a kid sneeze onto my back of my legs in shorts. My legs were very wet...it was disgusting. The parents didn't even say sorry. Luckily I have a good immune system and didn't get sick, but still, gross!

Agreed 100%!!! Our household is very careful and we still manage to get something (one of us at least) on each trip. This is our year! I can feel it!

OP-- I agree with your humble request, and sometimes I wish Disney would print such a lovely request and stick it in with their park maps!! :thumbsup2 No one wants to be sick, and the little preventative measures really can go a long way. I know my DH thinks I'm a bit nuts, but first thing I do when I go into a hotel room is breakout the lysol wipes and wipe as much of the touchable surfaces down especially the light switches, sink handles, and remote control! (and check for bed bugs!! lol!) I've relaxed some over the years, but while at Disney, I bring the wipes to wipe down restaurant tables and high chairs, and I will then use the little plastic place mats for the baby's eating area. Yes, it's a little nuts, but if I can keep us out of the hotel room and having fun in the parks, then it's worth it! :hippie:

We always sanitize everything around us in the plane. We are also very careful with washing our hands and sanitizing when we are in WDW. People who made snide remarks, will stop making them if they come down with an illness while on vacation after spending $7k to be there.

Just a precaution, I start taking Airborne (or at the very least, doubling up on the vitamin C) a week or two before leaving on vacation. Gives the immune system a little extra boost when it's likely to be bombarded!

Nah, I think people who make snide remarks, make them no matter what.

I really don't think about sanitizing the plane, even though I'm touching those magazines. :scared: I cannot help but read the Skymall; God knows what's touched them.

But changing a baby on one of those pull down trays on the plane? Do people really do that!? Guess so!

The best thing you can do to prevent sickness of just about any kind???

1. Do not touch your face/ears/nose/eyes....
2. Wash your hands before you eat and after using the bathrooms. Wash with soap and water , water is to be hot!
3. Get plenty of sleep.

Hand sanitizers are over used and do not kill viruses. They can make your skin break down actually increasing the chance of a bacteria or virus entering. Washing with soap and water is much much better.

Lysol all areas of the room might help. But you must wet each area and let it air dry.

Hope this helps!

Nope it's called irony.. Most people who get sick are the ones who try to over protect themselves and kill any sort of immune system they have.

Sorry, but I don't see how you could call your first posts irony. Covering your mouth when you sneeze and washing your hands is basic hygiene that children are taught in kindergarten. And that is all the OP was asking people to do. How is this over protecting themselves?

I will agree that some people go too far in trying to disinfect every possible thing they come in contact with. But this was not what the original post was saying.

My first post was in jest, because everyone knows that people love to get a finger waggled at them and being spoken to like a child about common sense issues on a disney planning site..

More a request after having someone cough in my face and get me sick, but you're welcome to take it any way you like. You'd THINK it was common sense, but it appears it is not.

Exactly.

Like you said, we're taught this in Kindergarten. Do you think someone posting on here to "cover your mouths!!!" is really going to change someone's habits if they don't cover their mouth as an adult at this point in their life? It would be great if it did, but it won't.

My mother used to hide lectures in "requests" too.. Only thing missing is the "mmm kay?" at the end.

I'm not sure why you would comment if you think I'm lecturing, other than to "put me in my place"?

I will go on the record as saying: I am not your mother. Or anyone's mother. Just a stranger requesting people think twice before they sneeze into the open air over their shoulder while at the theme parks during the most active "sick" season.

If that somehow offends you... :confused3

This is exactly true! People over sanitize and don't expose themselves or their kids to germs so their bodies cannot fight it and they get horribly sick.
Nothing wrong with being courteous of others and covering your mouth though.
