My parents, brother, and sister in law are going to Disneyland/CA this next Thursday through Saturday. None of us have ever gone during Halloween and I'm wondering what they might need to know about crowds. Specifically, are lines going to be extra long for Space Mountain and Haunted Mansion Fri and Saturday? How will The Halloween party affect them? They are getting picnic lunches for WoC Thursday evening. They have never seen it. Any tips about that? What are lines like at this point for the Carsland rides and Toy Story Mania? (they love that one!) I haven't been in a couple years, and I'm pretty out of the loop. It kills me just a little bit that we can't afford to go too, but maybe next year. :) At least I can help them plan a little.

The first Halloween party isn't until Sept. 28th, so they won't have to worry about the parks closing early for that.

Did they already pay for the picnic lunches? If not, I'd suggest that they not, since you only get a yellow FastPass, which is the same pass that you get for free from the machines (so no perk in getting a picnic). If they did already purchase it, oh well!

Carsland is still crazy. If it's a priority for them, they need to get there EARLY and be prepared to wait.

Space Mountain for sure will have a longer line, so they should definitely get FP's for that one.

HM will be very crowded next weekend when it reopens as NBC. I would suggest that they ride it as early as possible on Friday because it will start out fairly light, crowd-wise, and only get more crowded as the days go on. I believe that the will also open up the FP machines at that point but some of the lines for the FPs make it so its worth it to just get in the regular line. All that being said, the longest I have seen the stand-by line is an hour and a half. The line is out the gates and weaves through the little park section right next to the mansion.

My advice, make that one of the first rides to do.

I'm surprised the HM lines get that long. It's such a good ride for pushing crowds through quickly. Does that aspect of it change with the overlay?

General WoC tip-try to get as near to the front of your section as possible. Since everyone has to stand to watch, many parents put their kids up on their shoulders when the show starts. Which is nice for the kid, but effectively blocks the view for everyone who happens to be behind them. :furious:

Here are some WOC tips:

Thanks everyone, I appreciate it!

It is generally a good ride for getting the crowds through fairly quickly, its just that when it transitions to NMBC, it just can't handle the amount of people, and the lines start. Most people I know prefer the NMBC overlay to the regular one (I love both equally in different ways) so it becomes an incredibly popular ride.

Don't forget that there is only 2 elevators that can only take a certain number of people at a time, and then when they exit the elevator, the hallway to the ride vehicles slowly pinches down to a single person width as it gets closer to the track, and it gets very crowded and gridlocks as everyone tries to be the first to get on the doom buggy.
