A few thoughts from the 4/7/20 podcast

Agreed - but circling back to my original comment, having a clear backpack at Disneyworld, virus or not, is a huge time saver and help. If anyone is concerned about people touching their things and rummaging through your bags, its the way to go. 75% of the time they don't even open the backpack. There is always some security guards that like to be extra careful.

This is the one I have - not ideal for people with little ones, since it's a small to medium sized bag, but I fit a lottt of things in it.

I never would have (previously) entertained the thought of a clear backpack, but given the current situation, I am wayyyyy more open to it now! I usually travel in solo, but I like having a bag for my wallet, sunscreen, sunglasses, water bottle, phone, chargers, etc, and the one you posted is a cute option! I'm wondering if they're going to revisit their security process due to this COVID situation? (I would looooooove to see them install scanners like what Universal has, but IDK if I'm just daydreaming!)

I normally bring a small pack of wet wipes, and wipe down the outside of the bag post security. Perks of it being plastic (: also keeps things safe when it rains, or you're on splash mountain.

I think if the risk of a shooter didn’t make them do away with diapers bags/backpacks and move to the small clear bags, I don’t think the virus will.

I think Pete was right - I don't think Iger would have mentioned precautions like temp checks if it weren't a real solid possibility. But, remember, this was a discussion. Nothing written in stone yet. We do have to be comfortable not knowing, which I know sucks. I wouldn't cancel a trip because of anything said on the podcast. huh-uh. No way.

This is a great point. Guards should have to sanitize their hands between each bag search. They'd be better off skipping gloves and using hand sanitizer each time. No matter what, I'd be prepared for super long security lines when the parks reopen.

Yes, using only hands & sanitizer is a much better bet that using gloves - the same set of gloves touching everything is not clean just because they are using gloves. I use hand sanitizer all day long & wash about every 2-4 hours.

I also think Disney will go to the clear bag policy like stadiums.

Someone can make a ton of money by creating a clear backpack as big as the ones you use to summit Everest! I see some gigantic backpacks on property and I am blown away by how much "stuff" people deem necessary to bring in for a park day. Whoever makes those mass capacity clear backpacks will make a mint.

Personally I think it's time to shut down security theater and just stop the bag checks. There is no way they can keep things sanitary going through everyones bags.

I'd be OK with a clear back if it had a cute ( could be small ) Disney logo on it. I'm old school though and still have a camera that I bring that has it's own case that they always check, so they may need a line of bags ( differing sizes, etc ).

I don't see how a clear bag rule could work. You've got people traveling from all over the world. Do you really think you can get them all to buy new stuff just to come to WDW? What about women's pocketbooks? Those aren't clear? Is Disney really going to say my wife can't enter the park with the $250 Dooney bag she bought IN THE PARK?

Thanks for an informative show!

Two things that struck me:

1.) People keep talking about temperatures being checked by Disney (and lots of other places). Haven't the experts concluded that you are very contagious well before fever? So how would this help? I think about all the little kids who have always gone to Disney with fevers (perhaps from an ear infection, etc.). I wish there was a breathalizer that each person would need to take to actually prove they don't have this virus. I know, I'm dreaming!

2.) Someone on the show mentioned Disney will become OCD about sanitation. Bleach was mentioned. Yikes. If there is that much bleach that will be used it will give 3/4 of the people in my travel party instant asthma!

Thinking about today's show, the subjects that were discussed like mandatory face masks, etc. are making me feel like I might need to reschedule our vacation (was this month, now late September) once again and just wait it out until their is a vaccine and life is a bit more normal.

Bleach is only dangerous when the fumes are enclosed, bleach outside isn’t anything to worry about.

And yes fevers are not the end all be all, but they are a symptom in a large majority of coronavirus cases so they are a logical symptom to screen for. It’s not a a perfect science, but if it was waiting for a perfect science then millions of people would be out of work for the next decade.
