i've just changed over from ASM doing free dining, to staying at SSR and i have a few questions, i hope the kind people over here can help!! :)

1) i've seen there are BBQ pits, are these for the use of any guests? we're renting points if that makes a difference

2) is there a bar on site? roughly what time does it stay open til?

3) we'll be arriving using ME, whereabouts is the drop off in comparison to where you check in?

4)what time is the last boat back from DTD?

5) we'll be transferring to AKV after 8 nights, can disney transport my luggage over to there while i go to a park? if so how do i go about doing this?

sorry for all the daft questions but this is my first time renting points and first time at a DVC resort. thanks in advance

I have never stayed at SSR myself, but I can offer a few answers.

The BBQ grills are the charcoal type normally seen in parks and recreational areas. Anyone staying at the resort may use them, first come, first served...though usually not a problem getting a grill. You must supply your own charcoal, and there should be some available at the resort store.

The last boats to the resorts are usually about 11pm or 11:30, assuming the SSR boat is similar to OKW. Be aware that the boats will not run in stormy weather or even if lightning is several miles away. Busses also run to DTD from SSR.

ME should drop you off near the main check-in area of any resort.

To transfer luggage, you may call Bell Services and either have them retrieve your luggage from your room (you'll need to be present) or you can drop it off at the bell stand near the check-in area. Be sure to let them know if you are staying at AKV Jambo House or AKV Kidani.

There is at least one bar (maybe also a pool bar) at SSR.

Yes.... there is a bar at the main pool and if you stay in Congress park DTD is a is about a 10 minute walk. We enjoy Ragland Road Pub at DTD but it may look a little like home for you. Have fun!

1) i've seen there are BBQ pits, are these for the use of any guests? we're renting points if that makes a difference

The barbeques are near the quiet pools...they are in the Grandstand, Paddock & Congress Park areas...the one at the Grandstand is under a covered gazebo off to the side of the pool...just walk up & use it; no one checks IDs, altho there's a sign at the pool saying the area is only for SSR guests...

2) is there a bar on site? roughly what time does it stay open til?

There's a really nice inside bar, called the Turf Club, just past Artist's Palette (the counter service/ gift shop)...it's just outside the restaurant...it's set up like a living room/family room, complete w/a pool table. There are also pool-side bars at both the main feature pool and at the Grandstand pool...

3) we'll be arriving using ME, whereabouts is the drop off in comparison to where you check in?

ME drops you off right in front of check-in...but there is not "regular" or "routine" transportation from check-in to your villa, and depending on where your villa is, it can be a trek...and for a first-time visitor, it's also horribly confusing trying to find your way (at least it was for me!)...once you have walked your first time from check-in to pool to your villa to your bus to DTD, you'll be fine, and will wonder how in the world you could have gotten so confused when you first arrived...It's absolutely what happened to me, and I've heard lots of others say the same thing... you might be able to hitch a ride to your villa from one of the bellhops (especially if you have luggage), and there's an internal bus that circulates thru the resort (the bus stop order is Grandstand, Carousel, Paddock, Congress Park, Springs and then to whatever park the bus is going; there's also a bus that just circulates thru SSR (doesn't go to a park)...

4)what time is the last boat back from DTD?

Don't know for sure, but would guess around midnight--

5) we'll be transferring to AKV after 8 nights, can disney transport my luggage over to there while i go to a park? if so how do i go about doing this?

Super simple...tell Bell Svcs the night before (or morning of) your transfer...they'll come pick up your luggage (tip opportunity #1), or you can bring your luggage to them (another tip opportunity #1)...then go about your day however you choose (when I've done it, I generally go to my new resort right away to get checked in, but you don't "have to")...Disney transports luggage between resorts between 1 and 3...so after that, when you get back to your new resort, call Bell Services & they'll deliver your luggage to your room (you do have to be present to receive it; they won't just drop it off)--that's tip opportunity #2...or, if you prefer, you can pick it up yourself (I've done that when Bell Svcs was backed up and I didn't want to wait for them to have time...it's still a tipping opportunity, tho, even if you pick it up yourself!)...

No charge (altho at $1/bag, the tipping can add up) for this service...it's very smooth and very convenient...

Have a GREAT time!

There is a bar at the main pool, the grandstand pool (not open all the time) and a bar/lounge neat the turf club dining room in the carriage house which is open later into the evening.

i'd seen photos of the bar in the turf club, but wasnt sure if it was only for people dining there?

Drop off for Magical Express is the Carriage house. The bus will pull up and when you get off you will see the signs for check in. It is very close.

There is also a bell services window there to help you get you and your luggage to your room on a golf cart.

The Turf Club bar at SSR closes at 11:00 each night.....we closed it down every night! They have a fabulous espresso martini! If you are looking for more nightlife, walk or bus over to DTD, Raglan Road, as previously mentioned, House of Blues and Planet Hollywood are all fun spots.

As all of your questions were answered, I just wanted to add that SSR can be confusing the first time. I'm usually pretty good with map reading, but we were a little confused our first time. After night time extra magic hours, oldest daughter and I got off at the wrong bus stop in the pouring rain and were so obviously and horribly lost a cast member in a golf cart felt bad for us and took us to our building.

That said, it's a beautiful resort. We like it a lot, probably up there in our top three DVC resorts after BCV and AKV. Very relaxing after a long day in the parks.

Have a great trip.
