A few quick questions

Hi everyone! We are taking our first cruise in March (4-night on the Wonder) and I have a few questions.

1. I will be carrying on wine. Do I also need to bring a bottle opener or is there one available?
2. We will have a car so I was thinking about bringing on water as well. Logistically how does that work? If I bring a case of water, can I check it with our luggage or do I have to carry it on and lug it around?
3. We are DVC members and I saw on a recent navigator that the DVC welcome presentation is from 2:30-3:30. Do we need to be there at exactly 2:30? Can our kids come (ages 13, 11, 6)?
4. As far as the kids clubs, I saw that pre-registration is available for the 6 & 11 year old. Do they keep track of who is coming and going into edge/vibe? Are kids checked in/out?
5. The family we are traveling with has teenagers and I know my daughter (13y/0) would rather hang with them than her younger brothers. Would she be allowed in vibe with them? I understand if she's not, just want to prepare her ahead of time.
6. Finally a clothing question...I'm somebody who is always cold. I'm trying to figure out what to bring for clothes during the day. If we are cruising in March (March 12 to be exact), any suggestions? Is it typically warm while out at sea?

Thanks so much! This board has been extremely helpful!

The only question that I can help you on is #6... it should be pretty warm in the Caribbean at that time frame but we have experienced cooler weather in Castaway Cay. ( but we went early February) I would definitely bring a light jacket for the evenings and the show.... my wife is always cold while watching a show in the theater.

1. You can bring your own or your stateroom attendant can get you one.
2. All beverages, including water, must be carried on.
3. You can come at any time during that window. Not sure on kiddos.
4. The kids do swipe themselves in/out using a special magicband for the kids clubs only. The 11 year old, if I recall correctly, will be able to come and go as they please. The 6 year old would need to be checked in/out by an authorized adult.
5. DCL has been enforcing the age limits as a hard limit for a while now. It wouldn't hurt to ask once you are onboard but prepare her for the answer to be no.
6. A light jacket would definitely be recommended. It can also get quite cool on deck in the evenings, especially if there are high winds or the ship is hauling hiney.

I think you can come in late, though you might miss some raffles/giveaways.

I brought my kids to one once. Not sure I'd do it again. The free champagne was flowing, and there were little team competitions that got a just a bit too risqué for my 11-y.o. and especially my 6-y.o. Plus, the kids were bored.

I'd say leave the kids behind and just bring them back the swag.

Kids are welcome to DVC. Never noticed anything to adultish, however my 6 and 9 year olds have watched Deadpool and are not sheltered as they are members of DVC as well.

They even have drinks for the kids in the form of smoothies. Usually free drinks of the day and bottle water for the adults.

If you come later you may miss your raffles and also the drinks don't last forever.

Good to know. I didn't really think my kids would be interested I just wasn't sure what to do with them!

It really isn't a long presentation. If you have a cell phone. You are still in port usually when it occurs. Netflix or what not to entertain for a few. Kids clubs won't be open until about 5:30 or so.

I can help with 4 & 5.

For edge and vibe they have a list of kids who are of age, when they 'register'/ go for the first time they'll be given a sticker for their key card for the respective clubs. Every so often the Counselors will check everyone has a sticker and is allowed. Other than that, no, they do not keep track of who come and goes and when like the o.lab and club. (They can tell you exactly when they left and who with if they're not a self check thanks to the band)

Your 13 year old will potentially be allowed in vibe, depending on the number of kids on the cruise who are actually of vibe age. You'll have to go with her tho to sign a waiver form. Again, just remember vibe is come and go as much and little as they like, and a 13 year old could potentially be hanging out with kids that are a few days away from turning 18...that's a big age difference....

And 6 - I always feel cold! I just layer up, especially in the theatre and movie theatre and stores. It's the air con that gets me and makes me really cold inside, all day. Take a jacket or something to throw on.

In my personal experience of having teens 15 months apart in regards to Vibe:
My son was permitted to go to Vibe at the age of 13 with my daughter who was 14 at the time. I signed a waiver for him to be able to do so AND it was at the discretion of the Vibe counslers and if they had available space for that cruise. They were super nice and welcomed him warmly. However, my son is not much into the teen clubs and only attended once. My daughter generally goes a couple of times a cruise depending on activities that she might enjoy.
They replaced their standard KTTWC with one that had VIBE on it. It is black with orange lettering and is really cool! :) I think that is why my daughter goes actually...to get the cool card. :)

My two are homeschooled and we interact with a bunch of teens from 12 to 18 on a daily basis, so that aspect does not bother me (or them) in the least. It really depends on their comfort level (and yours too)

Isn't there usually a second DVC presentation later in the cruise (i.e., when the clubs are open)?

Thanks for the info! My daughter is very mature but even still, the only reason I am considering sending her into vibe is because she'll have friends there. I wouldn't send her off by herself. Totally agree that's a big age difference!

Ok about the vibe question, possibly. I know edge is 11-14 is recommended but 10 year old can come as well although I didn't see many (I'm 13). What ship are you going on? Im going on the dream the 13th.

As bbel said, its up to the Vibe counselors, and amount of kids. The DVC presentation is entertaining for all at the beginning, competitions giveaway fun stuff, at around 3ish, it begins to get boring for kids (the new resort buy in/points). I'd say that your 13 y/o could leave and get signed up for edge, chilling in there meeting you back in the room for the safety drill. If your worried about communication,
a. your still in port so phones work
b. she can use the navigator app to communicate.

Not quite.
Edge is for 11-14
Vibe is for 14-17
It is up to the counselors, and the amount of kids registered for Edge/Vibe to allow 10/13 year olds in. So not recommended, ages are ages. If there is space the 10/13 y/o would need a parent to go with them to the club and sign a waiver acknowledging they may be with 14 year olds (for Vibe kids a day less than 18).

We're on the wonder on the 12th. I definitely understand the age restrictions and I'm not looking to challenge any rules. I was only wondering if my daughter could hang out with the friends we are cruising with. Looks like they may have to do it outside of the clubs, which is fine. I just wanted realistic expectations going in. Thanks again for all the responses.

If she isn't able to age up, then both Edge and Vibe have open house times every day, where they can hang out together in the spaces then. Although OH means its open for everyone on the ship, usually in the teen spaces, its still pretty much just the teens for most of the time.

Thanks! I didn't realize that!

The club and lab also have daily Open House sessions if they want somewhere to hang out. But, unless there's odd number of teens that cruise, there shouldn't be any reason she wouldn't be able to age up. Just don't plan on it, you don't want to be disappointed if for some reason it doesn't happen...

My son is 11. Can he go to the kids club sometimes (as ages are 4-12) and the Edge sometimes (ages 11-14)? Or does he have to choose one or the other? If so, can he make that choice (or change) once onboard?
