we are thinking about going to Telluride, Colorado in July 2010 I am interested in the fairmont Heritage fraz Klammer lodge. I do have a few questions for anyone who has ever been there or knows something about the area or general info about II.

1. can I try to book through ms now if I know appox what date I need or am I too early??

2. we like a certain hotel (the fairmont hertiage) can we request that one
or can they give us another location??

3. I did notice that this resort starts with a 2 bedroom would this be 160 pts for one week ?

4. Has anyone ever stayed there before and if so how was it??

I don't know the area or FKL. I do know it's a fractional ownership, not a single week timeshare. It is tough to get but very upscale. You can put in a request up until 2 years out from your travel. You must give them a choice of 3 weeks, 3 resorts or a combo but they don't have to be the same location or time. Say you only wanted 1 resort for a specific week, there are ways to list it so that is what you'll get. Can you say Maui for Easter. They only have 2 & 3 BR non lockoff units so you're looking at most likely 270 points for a 2 BR, the 160 is for a 1 BR which they don't have. If you only wanted a 1 BR, you'd still have to pay the 2 BR price. There was a travel channel who on FKL about 3-4 years ago, it looked very nice. I'd go to TUG (Timeshare Users Group) to ask for direct experience on the resort itself. They can assign you to any unit in the complex that matches the criteria for what you traded for. I think all the units are in a lodge format but again, someone with direct experience can tell you more in that area.

Dean, I noticed in your above post that you mentioned if you wanted a specific week and resort there are ways you could put in the request that you would only get exactly what you wanted. Could you elaborate on that a bit? I am trying to figure out how to do just that....

Thanks!

Here is the quote from II's info.
To submit a valid exchange request, a minimum of three different
resorts and one time period, three different time periods and one
resort, or two resorts and two time periods must be requested.
They don't always adhere to it and I haven't heard of them enforcing the 4 weeks/2 resorts portion of it. Of course it could also be 3 resorts and 3 different weeks. There really are two issues. One is getting the resort and week you want, the other can be getting a specific start date. Say there is only one week that will work and only 1 resort you will consider. You list that resort and week and then list other weeks/resorts that are either pie in the sky or you know will technically not be deposited. For many II members that might be Xmas week at one of the smaller DVC resorts. Things like the Westin or Maui Marriott for high demand weeks or high end resort for ski weeks. If you really want to get fancy, you could list the Marriott Grande Residence Club which is not actually listed in their book or on their website but is still a member resort and can be listed in request is my info. You could list a week in 1 year and 2 weeks for 2 years from now at resorts you know only deposit a year out or less.

The other issue is say you only want Sat but under II's rules you have to request any of the start dates. It's a little more tricky but you can specify only Sat for example. You just need to be very specific and make sure they enter it in the comments section that you can only do certain days. For other start days like Thu or Mon, they will call you first to see if it's OK.
