A few from today- and maybe tomorrow.

I spy a Junior Ranger Badge on your older daughter- good for her! :thumbsup2

LOL- You have no idea- she takes that Jr Park Ranger title very seriously. I think she wanted to turn in my dad a year ago when we were up here for plucking a blade of grass. (What would happen if EVERYONE who came here took a blade of grass? Hmmm?)

The best though was when she asked me if the Cast Members at the Wilderness Lodge were real Park Rangers. I told her I didn't think so and for the rest of the stay she was extremely suspicious of them. :rotfl:

My daughter had very much the same 'take' on the JPR deal when she got hers on the Blue Ridge Parkway back in October 05. She and I stayed up till the wee hours completing the workbook and she proudly presented it at the Ranger station the next morning. She was very solemn and serious at the "swearing in ceremony".

A really good program that the NPS has going.

When I think of all the tax money the federal gummint (well, that's how George Wallace taught us to say it!) throws down every conceivable rat-hole, and the National Park Service can't afford to even pave the potholes in the national parks, it makes me REALLY angry. Sorry...I'm being combative. I'll behave now, I promise.

Well- Day 2 came and went with me screwing up most of the pictures I took. :headache:

Messing around with the D70s yesterday on the river pictures (because the D50 does not have a remote cable release) I had set it to -1.0 EV because with the long exposures the hilights were blowing out on the water. And I normally keep that camera set to +0.3 because it has a tendency to underexpose anyway. So when I forgot to change it back most everything from today ended up way underexposed and noisy.

Oh well- we still had a nice day.

Here is the tower I went up in and took the last few shots I posted yesterday.

Went back to the river and had a cook-out today.

I really regret messing up the exposure in this one.

Met some old friends we had not seen in a few years. The kids had a blast together after being shy for about 30 seconds.

My daughter did make what I think was the most perfectly roasted marshmellow ever.

And our friend actually took a picture of me that I did not cringe at (too much) so I thought I'd share it. She normally uses a Canon but took this with my camera.

Heading off to Cades Cove tomorrow so hopefully I'll remember how to use the camera. :rolleyes1

Send her our way when she's old enough to work. We need these forward thinkers at The Nature Conservancy.:thumbsup2

Wish I could learn to "screw up" my pictures the way you do. Nice shots; I see the Junior Park Ranger is still on the job. :goodvibes

Great pictures. I really like the one of the water flowing over the rocks.

(That's Southern for Good Lord Man!)

Wow! INCREDIBLE! UNBELIVABLE!

....Oh, did you think I was talking about your PICTURES? No! Who is that FINE LOOKING MAN IN THE LAST PHOTO?! :thumbsup2

Just joshing around with you because w/a UserID like Gdad--I always "assumed" you were a GRANDdad! (That's what a lot of Southeners called their Grandfathers-GDaddy!) :rotfl: :rotfl:

Great shots--completely unbelievable....may I ask you a question? Does your wife scrapbook? Because WHAT IN THE WORLD do you do with all these pictures? Are they out? Do they live on a CD or on your computer? or Do you display them in some fashion (i.e., screen savers, digital frames, etc.).

Seems a bit overwhelming to have SO MANY excellent shots....what DO you do with all of them?

Deb

Well I'd take your screwed up pics any day to my "good" shots. Loving your photo journal of your trip, especially the ones of your girls and you.

Have a great day at the cove tomorrow. Hope you see a bear and get some good shots for us to drool over.

WOWZER Jeff those are some great pics. And its nice to put a face with a name. And I only wish I could screw up my pictures that well! They are beautiful. are ya kiddin' us? I just love the pics of the kids playing in the water and with the marshmellows, yummy!
i'd also like to know if your wife scrapbooks? because she has quite the pics to choose from. you have to display them somewhere. they are way to beautiful to hide away.
enjoy your day today and take somemore great pics for us. i am enjoying your vacation pics.
i'm thinkin' maybe you should come to disney with us and just take my pics for me???!!!!!!!!!!???!! whatcha think????:)

because the D50 does not have a remote cable release
You can use the delay timmer (unless you're using bulb)

She normally uses a Canon but took this with my camera.
Having a canon pointed at me makes me uneasy as well. :rotfl2:

Hope you see a bear and get some good shots for us to drool over.
I look forward to photos of bears without watermarks plastered all over them. :rolleyes1

I've seen bears in that neck of the woods and, to my recollection, none of them had watermarks plastered all over them, so he should be fine. On the other hand, I never did get close enough to a bear to see a very subtle watermark, so you never know...

Jeff
I told you I would be "stalking" you to see your vacation shots. Wow.

So you do this for a living, right? Cuz I am thinking I might just want to follow YEKCIM, Party 0f 3 and dcanoli and have you go on our next WDW trip. Hmmm my own photo pass photographer.... I like it :thumbsup2

Gdad what a beautiful place! You climbed up all those stairs?? :worship:
I really want to visit the Smoky Mountains now. Are you camping (tent/camper) or staying at a hotel? We camp a lot and I think my family would love a vacation like this!

great job Jeff .

we've been to the smokies a bunch and only saw a bear at Cades Cove once (and then had to look between all the goofs who got out of their cars and ran to take snapshots of it, I mean like ran within a few feet of it:rolleyes: ) and that was when they were having some serious bear problems a few yrs back... but the scenery is worth it!

crzy4disny we camp there usually when we go( sometimes camper, sometimes tent) and it's nice, not as nice as fort wilderness but nice enough. up on the parkway though there weren't showers last time we went but there are lots of private campgrounds as well of the sides of the mts..( can't recall if cades cove has showers or not, pretty sure the one on the NC side of the mts does not)

Thanks so much everyone- Sorry about wiping out the EXIF data- I just saved for web since the hotel internet connection is a little slow.
Guess I'm not the only one who posts here during their vacation. :)

Back on topic, I don't think I've ever been able to get exif data off your photos, so I assumed that either SmugMug is doing it all the time, or you're removing them (intentionally or otherwise) during your normal workflow.

Thanks again all- Here are a few from Cades Cove today and the picnic area nearby. Did not see any Bear but did see a bunch of Deer.

Beautiful as usual. Love the deer and your little "dears." Makes my heart long to go back. Haven't been back in a long time.
