A fearless trip report- May 12-18th 2011

I think hanging out with some friends in Mexico sounds like much less of a waste of time than spending hours of the day waiting in long lines and rushing around. :thumbsup2

It is kind of funny to see everyone else in the rain. So many people with ponchos, usually all the same Disney one, and a few people not worrying about the rain and getting wet. In the summer, an afternoon shower isn't always such a bad thing.

I think you are spot on with the lines comment! :thumbsup2

We haven't left yet...Thursday the 30th is our day!

Glad you are one step closer to going back to Florida.

I have to say that I am a little jelous of all of the people on here that go to EWDW in a large group. It is just DH, DD, and me going. I bet we will have a grand ol time anyway.

Can't wait to read morepopcorn::

Ooops, sorry, Math has never been my strong suit! :goodvibes You are getting so close! I'm sure you will have a wonderful time, and just think, you could always go back with friends and family!

I know that is where you want to be, so I hope it goes through without a hitch.

My kids are spread out just enough for my liking. Jill is three years older than Trent, and Trent is four years older than Drew. I got to enjoy each of them being a baby and toddler before another one came on the scene. They rarely argued when they were little, because their interests were so different. They didn't want the same toys at the same time. Jill wanted her girl things, Trent was all about basketball, soccer, football - any kind of sport. Drew liked cars above anything, and he loved to roller blade and play roller hockey in ther neighbor's driveway. He loved riding his bike and doing tricks. He liked the sports, whereas Trent loved the sports, so they played them together sometimes, but not enough to get on each other's nerves.

Do you only want two? If you want a third and/or fourth child, you can add that factor into all of your thinking and plans. How many years you would want between the first and last, money factors, etc. I'm not much for giving opinions, because I often think my ideas are crazy to others. In my case, I wanted five or more kids, but my ex left after the third one. I almost adopted another child (a boy) from Thailand, but I just didn't have the money.

Thats a good point, I keep thinking that my youngest brother and I are 5 years apart, and we played together when we were younger and had lots of fun. Now that we're adults I'm probably even closer to him than to my middle brother, so I guess that they don't need to be super close in age to end up super close.

I would love 3 or 4 children, but I know that DH only wants two. Actually I think he'd be happy with just Everett, but he knows that I really want at least one more, so he's on board. I guess we'll see what happens.

I have read a lot about all the margaritas at The Ditch...I know my mom would love it! Too bad I am hoping to be pregnant for our trip, so I will have to pass. This may also be what influences me to say start trying now...since we are...I have babies on the brain!

That is awesome news about the possible move! Some day maybe we will be able to move closer to Disney. I would love to be closer, but right now we are within 15 minutes of all the grandparents, which is sooo nice when we need a babysitter! I don't know if I could move that far from my mommy!

We went to Disney right before we moved to Virginia and I was 12 weeks pregnant, so I understand. I do love those margaritas, and I was a little jealous of DH still getting to have one, but I knew it would be worth it in the end! Good luck with your TTC endeavors!

I really love Florida, always have and always will! I lived there for 10 years starting right after college, so I'll always think of it as "home" because it is where I started my adult life. I do wish that my parents lived closer, but I'm pretty sure that they'll retire to Florida if that is where we end up! :goodvibes

How exciting! I hope everything goes smoothly with the move back to Florida. :cool1:

How far apart to have babies is such a personal thing that all I can offer is my personal opinion. As you know, my boys are thirteen months apart. It's not always easy to have two little ones, but it is what we wanted for our family.

I like having two toddlers now, and I'll like having two school-aged kids, and then two teenagers and finally, a nice empty nest so Jeremy and I can have some fun kid-free years together.

To me, it's worth a bit of extra work and difficulty in the beginning in order to have my family completed and never have to have pregnancy hanging over my head again. But that's just me.

If your only concern is how hard moving with two little ones will be, I'm sure you can handle it. Once you have two little ones, you just figure it out. It's only beforehand that you can't see how you could manage. Once you have them, it all falls into place.

I could definitely see how it would be easy in some ways to have babies super close together, and I kinda wish we had taken that route (not only because then I wouldn't have to be making a decision now!). It must be nice for your two to have a built-in friend and playmate, and you'll always know that they'll be into the same toys.

Reading your TR has really been an inspiration to me, I see how you not only manage with two, but thrive, and that is what got me thinking that maybe I could do it too. Maybe I didn't have to put my baby plans on hold, that I could handle having two with DH deployed if I really put my mind to it!

Another great update! I'm so glad that Barfy is finally clothed! Now, he won't be breaking any rules at all  It sounds like you had a great time with your friends at The Ditch. Sometimes you just have to take time to slow down and enjoy the atmosphere and people around you, instead of trying to hit all the attractions in a single day.

That's such exciting news about the possible move! Fingers crossed that it will all work out! :goodvibes

Yes, we always have lots of fun together! I'm hoping we get back down there so that our adventures can continue!

Just joining! I have had a blast reading your TR so far!

From your descriptions of your usual "hobo-style" travel to the airport, "husband-approved" arrival time one week before departure:rotfl2:, to your longing for a "itty-bitty parachute" mid-flight, you have had me in stitches from the outset.:rotfl:

Can't believe your luck with those rude and oblivious people at the Nemo and Bruce photo ops....jeeesh people! Get the memo!

And I have to say, it sounds like you have the best mom ever. Taking your son *every* night, and throughout the day so you can ride rides and eat adult-only meals, and then go out drinking at night. Is she for real???:rotfl: And then buying you that D&B bag? Wowza! You do know you hit the jackpot, right?;)

Loving your report so far, and can't wait to continue on with your journeys!:goodvibes

Thank you so much! I really do feel I have the best mom ever! She is so good to me and Everett, I can never thank her enough. When I was planning this trip, I never even asked if she would join us, because I didn't want to impose on her time, but as soon as I told her we were going, she volunteered to join us so that DH and I could enjoy some solo time!

Italy, France.... it's all in Europe. :lmao::rotfl2: I'm glad that your mom was finally able to find Barfy's gondolier costume after all. We've never done the Disney Visa character meet before, but then again, we haven't been with DS yet. We'll definitely have to make it a point to check it out this trip.

First of all....congrats on being one step closer to moving back to Florida! :cool1: I'll keep my fingers crossed for y'all that everything goes well! As for having a 2nd baby....isn't it hard to figure out the "perfect" time to have a baby? I'll just throw in my 2 cents, even though it's not worth even that much. I would probably make sure I was moved & settled in before getting preggers. Also, you may want to see how it is with Everett once he hits 2. Some people are fine with 2 very little ones. I, personally, wanted Reid to be a little older before we brought another baby into the family. Reid was just extremely challenging at 2 & I think I would've lost my mind. Now, it's a lot better & he keeps telling me wants to have a baby. So, we're hoping to have another one some time next year.

I really enjoyed your update. I wish we had done the Disney Visa character photo thing. But, I completely got us sidetracked doing other things. And the whole ordeal with "Barfy's" outfit had me :rotfl2:.

Your trip report is getting better and better! The Barfy outfit story made me laugh out loud! I agree that he does look a like gondolier however his outfit does suspiciously look like the guy that does the juggling outside of France in the WS. Wait, is that France or Italy? Now I'm confused!

Good luck with your decision on baby #2! I have no opinions on the matter because I think I might be in the "one kiddo is good for us" group, but I do think about it daily. My clock is tickking though, I'll be 37 this week!! Yikes, that's very close to 40!

Can't wait for the next epsisode!:yay:

:rotfl2: I think it looks more like a gondelier's outfit as well, at least without the beret. Well, you got 2 ethnic costumes for the price of 1!

As for having another child, mine are 13.5 months apart. It wasn't planned that way, but now, I am so thankful for it! All of the phases are close together so once you move on, you really move on. DD and DS are also super close, and I can see this remaining through life. My sister and I are 3 years apart and even though it isn't a lot of time - different friends, different interests, different lives - we don't share much even today.

I've really enjoyed reading your trip report (so far)! :goodvibes

My extended family are thinking about going in May next year, how did you find the crowds? :)

Joining late! Can't wait to read it all! Ill have to check out the OCT 2010 one too! We were the 10/2010 too!

Oh my gosh! This cracks me up! So funny!!! :lmao::lmao::lmao:

I do have to agree with you though. It definitely looks like a gondolier outfit.

Yay for math! I happen to be a math major. :thumbsup2

Glad you found "Barfy's" wardrobe issues funny, it was funny at the time too! :goodvibes

Way to go for being a math major! I always have TONS of respect for women who kick butt in fields typically dominated by men! :thumbsup2

Italy, France.... it's all in Europe. :lmao::rotfl2: I'm glad that your mom was finally able to find Barfy's gondolier costume after all. Definitely go check it out, it was a really good experience for us, and you get to meet characters without waiting 30+ minutes in line for the character spot.

I think we've decided to time it so I'd have the baby after we moved. I do really want to have a baby, and it doesn't help that all the girls around me are getting preggers and I'm all caught up in the excitement, but I think it would be easier to be settled and unpacked without the added excitement of a newborn.

There is always next time to go to the Visa meet! It took us four trips to get there, so don't feel bad!

Yes, that outfit really threw me for a loop, I guess French people wear striped shirts too, who would have guessed? :lmao:

When I got pregnant with Everett I had seriously wanted to have two kids very close together, but then after he was born I changed my mind and really wanted to take his first two years to concentrate on him. We also live in a really tiny place, so there would have been no room for a second kid, so that also made my decision a little easier.

I've really enjoyed reading your trip report (so far)! :goodvibes

My extended family are thinking about going in May next year, how did you find the crowds? :)

Thanks for reading along. I didn't find the crowds to be bad at all, I love going at the beginning of May, you get the tail end of Flower and Garden, you get lower crowds and generally pretty decent weather. It was a little warm this year, but it wasn't quite to Africa hot yet!

Joining late! Can't wait to read it all! Ill have to check out the OCT 2010 one too! We were the 10/2010 too!

You're not to late, we're still pretty early in the vacation! Glad to have you reading along!

Episode 19 the update in which there will be shenanigans

Once we were done meetin’ and greetin’ we surveyed our options. The weather was still really iffy and looked like it might pour any second. I had wanted to get more pictures of the topiaries for Flower and Garden, but I didn’t want to risk my camera in the on and off rain showers. We decided to stick around Innoventions and try out Sum of All Thrills. Bryan had not done it yet, and Steve wanted to go too, and I thought that Mark would join them.

On our Oct trip we did Sum of All Thrills for the first time, and Mark got so caught up with the math geeky aspect of planning his rollercoaster, that he ran out of time to design it, and ended up with a much tamer experience than he planned. I thought he was going to use this opportunity to create something much bigger and badder.

Well the only problem with going to Sum of All Thrills was that it was in Innoventions East and we were currently in Innoventions West.

Meanwhile Everett spends some time checking out the firetruck

We sat around for a little bit, watching the weather, and when we saw our break, we made a run for it! The guys headed over to Sum of All Thrills, while Everett, DMom, Amy and I took in some of the other innoventions exhibits. Everett found a touch screen, which was pretty thrilling. He adores our Ipad, but we don’t let him play with it all that often. As far as Everett was concerned he had found himself a HUGE Ipad and was going to keep touching it until his little fingers gave out. I have no clear memory as to what the point of the touch screen was, but it might have had something to do with disaster preparedness, since it was right near the stormstruck exhibit.

When I was able to pry DS away from the almighty touchscreen we headed over towards Sum of all Thrills.

DH had decided that he didn’t want to ride after all, and took DS to check out the other exhibits. There was one where you pull a rope and a mallet smashes into a piece of plastic which was a big hit (Bad pun alert! :lmao:) , and also one where you have to jump on a sensor pad that was equally entertaining. Running, jumping, mock destruction, what more does a toddler need?

While DH was entertaining DS, DMom, Amy and I chilled on a bench to watch the insanity and wait for the guys to get off the ride. Amy and I talked about what we were going to do for dinner. There had been some discussion of Yachtsman, but at this point we were not going back to the resort to change, and we didn’t want to show up all park grubby. We thought about our options in the WS, and decided on Nine Dragons, since it was the most likely to take walk ups. I know that many people do not like Nine Dragons, but I don’t have a problem with it. I really enjoy their Kung Pow Chicken, and I wish my local take-out place could prepare the dish even half as well.

Amy called Disney Dining and secured us an ADR, and shortly after Bryan and Steve finished up. They both enjoyed it, but said they probably wouldn’t wait in line again. That is the way I feel about it, its OK, but I’d rather go on a real coaster than design a virtual one.

At this point DMom decided to take Everett back to the resort and get him dinner there. The weather continued to look iffy, so she decided to go back and just grab something for herself and DS at the food court, so they wouldn’t risk being out in the rain.

It sounded like a great idea, since it was getting close to his dinnertime, and he had a big day in the parks. We sent Bryan and Amy ahead to claim our table, and DH and I walked Mom and Everett out of the park. We made sure she remembered where the car was parked and we said our goodnights. We then hurried off to meet up with Bryan and Amy for dinner. Steve also left the parks with us, because he had plans to eat with some friends off property.

DH and I used our speediest walk and made it back to China in record time. We entered the restaurant just as the waitress was taking Bryan and Amy’s drink order, perfect timing! We had a lovely dinner, my Kung Pow chicken was a good as I remembered and Mark enjoyed his sweet and sour pork.

It was nothing too boundary pushing, but it was good, and the service was pretty fast which really worked in our favor. Its good we decided against Yachtsman because we had plans to be at Jellyrolls right at 7 when the door opened, and Bryan and Amy wanted to go back to the resort and change first.

We were cutting it close timing wise, but it all worked out, we even had a little extra time to meet up with another old friend of ours, also named Brian. Brian had been a loyal listener to All About the Mouse and I met him at the same meets where I met Bryan. He is local also, so we would run into each other at a lot of the fan events and we became good friends. He was spending Saturday night enjoying World Showcase, so he met up with us after dinner and we walked back to the front of the park together. He decided against joining us at Jellyrolls, because he wanted to make it an early night, but he did promise to meet up with us the next day for lunch at Animal Kingdom.

Once we left the park we made tracks back to POR for a quick change before we really got our night going. I actually was pretty happy that we ended up back at the resort because all the damp and rain were making me a little chilly, and I was able to change into jeans. DH took this opportunity to make fun of me, thinking that 85 was chilly and warranted long pants, but I lived in Florida too long and my blood is too thin to worry about the teasing. I tried to justify it by telling him we’d be inside in the AC, but he just shook his head!

I also did stop by my Mom’s room to check on her and DS, and things were going less than swimmingly. DS didn’t want to eat his dinner and was being a bit of a beast. I was a little worried, and offered to stay home so my DMom wouldn’t be stuck with Beasty Baby, but she wouldn’t hear of it, and shooed me out the door. I was a little concerned, but I knew she could handle it, if she survived me and my two brothers, she could survive anything!

We ended up back at the boardwalk right before 7, and made our way to Jellyrolls, but first taking a picture on the over-sized couch.

DSCN1813.jpg

We were inside Jellyrolls right after the doors opened for the night and were able to score prime tables, right in front of the pianos. Our friend Dustin is a manager there, and he came over to say a quick hello. It was a busy night, so we weren’t able to spend much time chatting, but it was nice to touch base again and hear about how everything was going. We weren’t the Jellyrolls regulars that we used to be, but it is nice to be remembered, and I hope that we’ll be there more frequently if we move back to Florida.

The first thing we did when we arrived was move two tables next to each other. Right now it was just the four of us, but Shane and his friend Chantal would be joining us after La Nuba, and Steve and his wife were also planning on stopping by. Well, despite having had no problems moving tables together in the past, we were immediately chastised by our waitress. She definitely did not start out with us on the right foot and it only went downhill from there.

She came storming over when she saw us moving the tables, and demanded that we put them back. We told her that we had friends joining us shortly and asked why the tables couldn’t be moved, and at that point she backpedaled slightly and told us that we could move them closer together, but that they couldn’t be touching, ummm ok?? We agreeable moved the tables apart slightly, and I hoped that this would be the end of any hard feelings.

Unfortunately the rest of the night did not go smoothly. She did not take our drink orders (despite being the only people in the bar), and despite my repeated attempts to get her attention, she did not pay us any heed.

After about 10 minutes of sitting there like chumps, we gave up and went directly to the bar to order our drinks. Well, that got her attention, because she once again came storming over and let us know in no uncertain terms that we should be ordering drinks from her. Well, that is exactly what we had planned, and we told her that we would be happy to order from her from now on. Her service did not get any better throughout the night, so we would have to go on stealth missions to the bar to get drinks, and then pretend that we didn’t have any new drinks when we saw her giving us the stink eye.

Things really came to a head when, at one point, she actually was in the process of bringing us new drinks, and at that very moment Shane was telling a big dramatic story complete with hand motions and… WHAP… knocked the tray full of drinks out of her hands, all over her, him and Steve. In his defense, she did approach him from behind, and he had no idea she was standing there right behind him. Needless to say that did not endear her to us any more, and we didn’t see her for the rest of the evening- except when she brought our checks. :rotfl2:

Waitress drama aside, we had a great time at Jellyrolls. It is one of my favorite places at Disney and a vacation would not be complete without a night there singing along and having a great time. We made sure that we went on a night when our favorite piano player, Scotty, was performing. He is just the greatest, so talented and funny, and an all around performer. When he came out to play his set we gave him a big round of applause, which he thought was very funny, since we were cheering for him before he even played anything.

DSCF9583.jpg

here we are, post Shane's arrival but pre-Steve

We made lots of song requests, sang and danced along. I’m perfectly willing to make a completely fool out of myself, and Bryan is my partner in crime. At one point the two of us were doing our very best Lady Gaga dance impersonations.

DSCF9584.jpg

The very best part of the evening was when we got Scotty to do his Kermit the Frog sings “Rainbow Connection” impression and dedicate it to Steve. Steve is the host of the MuppetCast and obviously a big Muppet fan. He had never seen Scotty do the impression before, and he was really touched that we requested it just for him. Scotty is amazingly good at it, his voice is spot on and he even has the movements down pat, so that he almost looks like Muppet! The very last verse Scotty sang “to the wishers, the dreamers and STEVE” and we all erupted in applause, it was so much fun!

After that we decided to call it a night, we were all pretty tired and I know that Amy was really, really tired. Its not much fun being the pregnant girl in the bar, Jellyrolls is a little different because its fun just to go and watch the dueling pianos, but when the rest of your group is enjoying some vacation drinks, its tough to be left out. She was a really good sport and it was nice of her to come along and be our driver. We did have an excellent night out, but it was time to get to bed, because we had Animal Kingdom to explore the next day!

Sounds like a great night!

That waitress needs to consider that she should not be in the food service/customer service industry but maybe she was just having a bad night. :confused3

Out of all my trips I still have never managed to get to the boardwalk!

I've only made it to Jellyrolls once, and I had a wonderful time; I've never been back with anyone who was interested in going, and it isn't the type of place to go alone. Hopefully one day, I'll get back there.

Too bad about the waitress. She forgot to sprinkle some pixie dust before she came onstage!

Happy July 4th!

Yikes with the waitress drama, but sounds like you didn't let that put a damper on your evening. Despite best intentions, I have never yet made it to Jellyrolls. Definitely on the to-do list.;)

I will say it again...your mom is the bomb!:worship:

What an excellent night! Sounds like y'all had a great time....except for the waitress. I think I would've lost it with her! What I'm loving about y'alls vacation is that you're at Disney, doing Disney stuff BUT doing it with not only family but friends as well sprinkled here & there.

I think that the purpose of the touchscreen that Everett found in Innoventions is obviously to distract toddlers. Why else would they put it in easy reach for them? :lmao:
Sorry about your waitress experience. You never expect that kind of service at Disney, but I guess everybody has a bad day every once in a while. Looks like it was a fun evening. I hope your mom didn't have too much trouble while you were out.

Sounds like you had a great evening out! I have always been more into the fireworks while at Disney, but maybe we will have to break away from that for an evening and check out Jellyrolls!

I seriously love "Barfy!". I told Sophie about your costume situation and she thought it was pretty funny. She was saving her last $30 for her own "Barfy" but ended up spending some on pick a pearl and a pin instead. I'm going to try to get her one for her bday. I wonder if you can find them outside of WDW.

Out of all my trips I still have never managed to get to the boardwalk!

Yes, maybe she just was having a tough night, I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt! :thumbsup2

You totally should make it to the boardwalk one of these trips! I don't know how old your brothers are, but I think they would really enjoy the antics at Jellyrolls. You can request that people be brought up on stage via a little donation to the piano players, and I think your brothers put on a great show! :rotfl2:

You should definitely try and make it back to Jellyrolls, its really fun when you have a big group and everyone is really into it!

My mom was the greatest! There is so much to do at Disney I can understand overlooking a place like Jellyrolls, but if you like live entertainment, it really is a hidden gem.

What an excellent night! Sounds like y'all had a great time....except for the waitress. I think I would've lost it with her! What I'm loving about y'alls vacation is that you're at Disney, doing Disney stuff BUT doing it with not only family but friends as well sprinkled here & there.

Our vacation have really evolved over the years, from just being all about the rides to being more about family and friends. It all really changed when I moved to Jacksonville and got involved with the Disney community. Everyone is so wonderful, it was really easy to make friends, and experiencing Disney with like minded fans is really special!

I think that the purpose of the touchscreen that Everett found in Innoventions is obviously to distract toddlers. Why else would they put it in easy reach for them? :lmao:

I agree that it was a great distraction. I didn't think Everett would find much to entertain him in innoventions, but I think I could have just stayed there all day and he would have had a blast!

Sounds like you had a great evening out! I have always been more into the fireworks while at Disney, but maybe we will have to break away from that for an evening and check out Jellyrolls!

You could always head over right after illuminations, we've done that before! The only problem is that you are not guaranteed to get a table, because it does tend to fill up by 9:30, but if you are part of a small group, you shouldn't have a hard time finding some space at the bar.

I seriously love "Barfy!". I told Sophie about your costume situation and she thought it was pretty funny. Barfy is really fun, but I do love the pick a pearl also. It would have been a tough choice for me also. Good luck with getting Barfy for her Bday, I'm sure if you call Disney merchandising, they'd probably be able to hook you up.

Another fun evening with friends.

It was a super fun night, but a little bittersweet that our entourage was going to have to leave the next day.
