We were at AK on Sat morning. We had hustled over to the safari but the wait was too long so we went to get a FP. The machines were not working. A few CM's came over and were helping people. This one guy was helping the machine beside mine...and he was saying it might be their card or something. He then decided to give them an all-day FP that he had in his pocket. Prior to him telling them this, I had mentioned that my machine wasn't working either. (another CM was helping the people on the other side of me) She gave those people the all day FP's too. Well, then the guy came to my machine...oh before he came over, he dropped ALL his FP's on the ground. I could have easily taken one, but I'm not dishonest like that.
He opened my machine and saw a paper jam. He tried to fix it a couple times. It took him quite a while to fix it and in the meantime, the return time was getting later. I honestly thought at that point he would offer us an all day FP, as they had to the two families on either side of me....but NO. Try my card again...it worked ...so, just the reg FP.

Oh well, no magic this day.

No one except the Dream Squad has a "Fastpass for the day" and even that is part of a contest.

These weren't the blue plastic FP's. They were paper cards that said FP good for the day at THAT park. The two CM's that were helping people next to me had them and did give them to the people...and they explained to them that they were good only that day at that park. The guy that dropped all of them had probably 100 cards! (probably just a regular disney thing, not associated with the YOMD promotion)

It was likely "re-adds" typically used for when an attraction closes due to technical difficulties. It's a 1-time use thing, though, so you really didn't lose out on a "dream" but rather like the 45 minutes of time it would have saved you.

Maybe what they meant when they said, this is good for any ride all day only at AK...is that you can only use this at ONE ride TODAY at AK.

I guess I feel a bit better knowing I didn't miss out on so much!

If I had to guess, I'd say those were Fastpass Key cards ... if your ticket is demagnetized, the cast member can issue you one to use in the fastpass machines, in place of your demag ticket, so that you don't have to interrupt your day to go to Guest Relations so the ticket can be reprinted.
