My SiL acts responsibly by not exposing my nephew to anything that will cause him to react violently and endanger his siblings or his mother. he's Nonverbal, built like a linebacker and has lightening fast reflexes. so, she couches all dealings with him appropriately.

By suggesting that kids who get promises broken end up mistrusting adults.. well by THAT Logic I should be a complete basket case.

when I was 5 the adults (medical professional Parents no less)in my life told me I'd never walk again. They LIED

when I was 12 they promised I was cured. they LIED. Again

when I was 18 they said I'd be dead at 35, if not completely helpless. Yeap they LIED.

and yet here I am. (older than 35, only mostly helpless) I have no trust issues at all thankyerverymuch.

I just get so sick of parents thinking that their child needs all sorts of exceptions made for them because of factor A, B, C or X. and yet they ALSO want their kid to be treated just like every other kid/mainstreamed.

Think its 11 for this particular club. and like has been stated if you make an exception for one due to 'handicap' then the next time how can you turn away someone NOT on the Spectrum but is also too old?

It's easy. You exercise discretion. Saying that allowing an exception for a disabled child requires you to do it for a healthy kid is silly. Disney is known for making accommodations where needed and appropriate.

Lines may need to be drawn but I think this one was drawn in the wrong spot. You are entitled to think they made a good call here, but I disagree.

no trust issues? ok.. you are saying they "lied" instead of mis-dx'ing you.. that right there shows you have mistrust issues. ... but ok, I will not argue and chance getting any violations on this board.. Let's just agree to disagree because we clearly cannot see each others side.:upsidedow

nope not mis diagnosed at all. I just didn't progress( or is that regress) as fast as they expected me too. apparently being half german and half Sicilian is a potent combination of stubborn. potent enough to weird out some of the top pediatric specialists of the day. there was a kid who was diagnosed within a month of me. he was dead before his 13th birthday. I was supposedly in worse shape than he was when I was Diagnosed. I was out of the wheelchair within a year. he never left it. Go figure....

That was very good for you.. I am happy you didn't turn out as they thought.. :goodvibes nothing wrong with the medical profession giving you a dx based on statistic's and you end up beating the odds... My mom had lung cancer and was told she more than likely not live more than a year. NINE years later she passed away, it matastisized (sp) to her brain. I loved the fact that she beat the odds and I had her longer then the doc's said I would :goodvibes

I am going to close this thread at this time.

The OP wanted to vent and also to warn other people that they may not get what they expected despite promises.
If the original poster has an update, please contact me and I will either re-open the thread or post the information.
