A Dole Whip in my hand & my toes in the sand: CBR/Poly Split Stay – This Is The Life!

Okay, so I know this is totally OT here!! Well maybe not, we were just talking about LEGOS!! But did anyone know that Legoland is now open in FL??? :yay:

I was recently pricing out a trip to DL and wanted to throw in a side trip to Legoland out there, but then changed my mind about the whole thing when a very good DIS friend told me about all the refurbs and construction going on out there this year.

So anyway -- I went to look up Legoland and there is now one near Tampa FL!! :cool1: Now that I think about it, it seems like maybe I read about this coming a long tome ago and then totally forgot. But either way -- it's now there and now I am going to have to figure out how to work that into the next WDW trip!!!!!!!!! And it will be a surprise of course. :ssst:

I just changed our plans so that we could include LegoLand this year. Very excited about it. I had never heard of it before a couple months ago. Never knew there was one in CA of anything. It looks like so much fun and I think my little one who is 5 will just love it! It looks pretty reasonably priced too. Fun fun fun!

Isn't Legoland like an hour away from the WDW area ? I know my guys would love it but I have no idea how we would get there from the WDW resort.

It does look kind of awesome !! :thumbsup2

I guess we know where Shelly's family will be making a side trip to during their next WDW vacation. :)
I vaguely recall something about one being built in Ct. some years back I think but not having youngsters anymore not sure if it was ever done or just a dream in the making.

I kinda miss having Legos laying around the house. DS14 loved Star Wars and Legos. I swear he had every SW spaceship made of legos. DS10 not so much. My DS14 would sit and play with them forever. I have a friend doing a non Disney FL vacation in April and they're doing Legoland. Not sure where they're staying. I think they're doing Uni/IOA too.
Hope you get to go soon.

Deb :)

If it's in Tampa, its about an hour's drive. You could always rent a car for the day. It's an easy drive. We stayed in the Tampa area a few years ago for vacation and made the drive to Orlando one day. Easy-peasy. :thumbsup2

It says about 45 minutes from Orlando. It looks like they offer a shuttle from the Orlando Outlets to Legoland, so I guess you could take a cab to the outlets from your hotel. We would probably just rent a car for the day.

That's how my kids are, but the other way around. DS12 never had too much interest in them. I mean he played with them a little when he was younger, but nothing like DS10. That kid LOVES those things!! He would seriously be in heaven if we took him to Legoland!

I just looked and it's in Winter Haven. Looks like it's about right between Orlando and Tampa. Should be an easy drive! :thumbsup2

Oooooo, Legoland!!!! How fun!!! :cool1: I didn't know there was one in FL. Your DS10 will be so excited!

I think I am going to try to make it a total surprise for them!! DS12 won't be as impressed, but yes DS10 will flip out!!!!!!! :cool1: We will have to think of something special for DS12 too.....Although I'm sure he will thoroughly enjoy Legoland even if he won't admit it! :rotfl:

I had read that Legoland had opened in an Orlando Travel newsletter. I even went to their site and signed up for email updates. Your kids are going to be so surprised when you tell them where ya'll are going since they are such Legomaniacs.

Guess I need to get an Orlando newsletter!! :upsidedow But I was just researching it some more on the Legoland website and it looks like they just opened in October 2011, so I'm glad to know I didn't miss it for too long! :rotfl:

We are definitely going there next time. I was wanting to add in something different and I wanted to see Cirque du Soleil, but I think I will skip that to take the kids to Legoland!

Now to just figure out when this next trip will be.......

Okay, enough Lego business (although I am very excited about it :hyper:)!!

Back to the TR --

As I mentioned previously, we had decided to have lunch at Earl of Sandwich. It was before noon, so it wasn't terribly crowded, but still crowded enough. Is that place ever not crowded???

We waited in line for less than 10 minutes probably before ordering. But I remembered from our last time there that your wait isn't over then!! So we finished going through the line and fought our way to the pop machine to get our drinks and then we wait....and wait....and wait....For 3 sandwiches! Eventually our number was called and we went outside and got a seat.

DS12 got the PB&J sandwich. And like the last time, the PB was a little melty. Yuck!! I got the “The Caprese - fresh mozzarella, roma tomatos, fresh basil and drizzled balsamic vinaigrette”. It was okay, nothing great though. I also had a strawberry/banana smoothie. It was good. DH got the “The Full Montagu - roast beef and turkey with sharp cheddar ceese and aged Swiss cheese, romaine lettuce, roma tomato and Earl's mustard sauce”. He liked it okay, but wasn't overly impressed. DS10 of course didn't like anything they had to offer, so I don't remember exactly what we got him. Maybe some kind of yogurt or pudding parfait. And he had some of the bread from my sandwich.

Sorry to say that again we didn't see the big draw to Earl of Sandwich. It certainly wasn't awful or anything, but there are much better options out there in our opinion.

Rating: 6 out of 10
Total Bill: $23 (at least it was cheap!)

Up Next: Back to the Poly and an afternoon DIS Meet!!:cool1:

Now to just figure out when this next trip will be.......

I signed up for the Orlando newsletter and they sent me an Orlando discount card too. I thought for our upcoming trip that we'd venture offsite and the discount card would come in handy. (That was before the cruise came into play.) It's free of charge so you might benefit from it as well. :thumbsup2

You definitely need to work Cirque du Soleil into one of your upcoming trips. We have seen it three times and would go back again in a heartbeat. It's well worth the money. But, as fast as your boys are going, I think you should go to Legoloand first so they don't feel like they are too old for it.

Thanks for the tip! I'll have to do that right away. :thumbsup2 Do you sign up online?

I know, I've been wanting to make time for Cirque for a few years now, but it has just never happened. But that is exactly what I was thinking -- better get to Legoland ASAP before the boys get any older. DS12 might already think he's too old (or too cool ) for such a place, but like I said, I'm sure he will love it anyway!

Yes, I signed up online. Here's the link: http://www.visitorlando.com/#PlanningTools

I hate that your return trip to Earl of Sandwich wasn't any better than the previous visit. I've always said I wanted to try it out but we never get around to it since Hunter's not a big sandwich eater. Sounds like I may not be missing out on much.

Shelly - we didn't care of Earl of Sandwich last time we ate there either. After we waiting in line forever and then fought to find a table andthen waitied forever for our food....it was just meh in my opinion. I don't know that we would go back.

I'm bummed you didn't care for Earl. We loved it but agree it's always crowded. The seating is horrible as well.

Thanks for the link Lisa! :goodvibes

Yeah, I don't think we will be going back there again unless it is like our last day and we are broke, it is pretty cheap compared to other CS places!

Meh is a good word to describe it! :rotfl:

We were lucky that there were several tables open outside, usually it's all full inside and out! :faint:

Everybody raves about Earl of Sandwich, but both DH and I don't really feel like trying it. We're just not that big sandwich fans. I'm glad to see at least one family also doesn't think it's the best thing ever, makes me feel less alone. lol
