A Dole Whip in my hand & my toes in the sand: CBR/Poly Split Stay – This Is The Life!

Leaping lizards Shelly - great update again!! Beautiful pictures of the GF - need to stay there next time. So close to the Poly and everything else. Sea :cool1:

Day 5 – Tuesday August 30

I think someone asked a few pages ago if the first part of the trip was overshadowed by our excitement to get to the Poly and I forgot to answer.....I'd have to say no, for the most part. I had it in my mind that I was not going to let that happen before we even left for vacation! But, by the time we got to Tuesday all I could think about was Wednesday and checking in at the Poly! So this day might have been a little overshadowed, but we tried to make the best of it anyway! :goodvibes

We were up bright and early this day! I was determined to get lots done at DHS before the heat got too bad. I'm not sure exactly what time we arrived, but we were right up front for rope drop!

The opening show is a little generic now. They don't pick a family to open the park anymore.

As soon as the rope dropped we were off right in the middle of the TSM stampede!!

DH beat me, but I had better accuracy!

Next we decided to go to the Backlot Tour since we were on that side of the park.

It was a generic version too, with no one getting pulled from the audience for the show. They just walked through how the special effects are done in the movies. I don't know if this is because the crowd was so low or if this is just what they do now. We really didn't mind, as we have seen it several times before. (DH even participated in it once!)

Pretty soon we loaded our tram and were off on our tour!

Continued....

When we were coming to the end of our tour I spotted the umbrella from Singing in the Rain out on the Streets of America! We had never come across this in all of our trips. So we went to get some pics there next!

As I was 'singing in the rain' I was hoping that was the only rain I would see that day!!

Up Next: Muppet Vision and Starring Rolls lunch

I can't believe how light the crowds were in DHS, I think my last Spring Break visit scared me for life. Can not wait to read about your Starring Rolls lunch. My plan is to stop there for a quick bite if we are hungry if not maybe just coffee at the Writers Stop since we are having a rather early dinner 3:55 at HBD-F! Pkg.

I think I would have been very anixous to go check into the Poly also.

I can't believe that you had no wait to ride Toy Story Mania. The last time we were there, the wait time was 90 minutes that morning and then 120 that afternoon. Yikes!

Loving all the pictures of the virtually non-existent crowds on the streets of Hollywood Studios. :thumbsup2

I haven't ever done the Backlot Tour without seeing volunteers. I wonder if that's a permanent change? It's kinda funny to watch them get wet.

I love the Singing in the Rain umbrella. Cute pictures!

That was me that asked about your trip changing midway and wondering if it was overshadowed by the knowledge you were going to the Poly.:goodvibes (Of course I knew that you were expectantly waiting for the Poly portion to happen b/c that meant I was arriving shortly thereafter!!:laughing:)

Anyway-- great update!
I have a confession to make---- ready??????
I'm gonna whisper it...

I sorta kinda fell in love with DHS this trip- it was actually one of the best days we had the whole time!

:scared1:

:faint:

I know you are shocked.

It has to be b/c MGM (Mighty Grumpy Man-- hey he said it, not me) wasn't with me and I could enjoy it-- you know he hates that park! :rotfl2: So your update made me smile a whole big bunch.:yay:

Loved the pic of you with the Umbrella! The backlot tour thing-- huh. That's just weird. Maybe it's b/c it was so early that you went on it, that they weren't running it all the way? Maybe they do the whole "pull people from the audience thing" as crowd control-- that way it takes longer to do it? IDK, weird.

The park didn't look very crowded---- so that's super!! I keep looking at all of my pics from Sept thinking "it just looks so empty..." Maybe that's my sign to go at that time again?????

:wizard::wizard::wizard:

Wonderful update!!!!!! Looking forward to Starring Rolls. Will we see Cupcakes the size of Texas???

Speaking of which----
Shawna!!! Have a wonderful, rain free Polynesian vacation!!!!!:cloud9:

I know, DHS was nearly empty that morning!! :cool1:

Unfortunately I wouldn't recommend stopping at Starring Rolls. :sad2: But more about that later.....

I know!! :yay: Last November when we got there at rope drop there were so many people there that we (well DH & DS10, DS12 & I left and went on RNRC ) had to wait an hour to ride it. :sad2:

It was a great day to go to DHS for sure! :thumbsup2

I hadn't either. It was weird. :confused3 IDK if it's a permanent thing or not. I know scaling back on the opening show is permanent. At least that's what I read.

I couldn't believe when I spotted that dang umbrella - right there in plains sight. Can't believe we never saw it before. :upsidedow

I thought it was you or Teri. Sometimes I can't tell you two apart with all the football talk. :faint: :lmao:

Yeah, the Poly was definitely on my mind all week, but I think I did a pretty good job of not letting it overshadow the first part of the trip!

The park was empty that day! It was so awesome!!

Well well well.....You've finally come to see the light about DHS.....:rolleyes1:laughing: That is so dang funny because on this trip I started to think that DHS might not be my fav park anymore....:scared1:

Still LOVE it though of course! :lovestruc

Don't look too forward to Starring Rolls.

Yes Shawna -- Have a safe, wonderful and magical vacation!!! :wizard:

Ut oh :scared1:

Way to build suspence Shelly

Isn't it the best feeling to just walk onto a ride?!!
I have never seen that "singing in the rain" umbrella! I learn something new about WDW all the time. It's just so amazing how many new things you see on every trip.

I am so excited today b/c I've been a laid off teacher for over a year now b/c of budget cuts and I just finally accepted a position in the city next to where I live! Just had to share :)

Well I wasn't as far behind as I thought I would be so I decided to get caught up over here before it got away from me.

You totally had me cracking up over locking your DH out of the hotel room! :rotfl: That is absolutely something I would do!

Loved your pictures of CBR, and those huge birds!! We didn't see anything like that. I'm kind of glad!

Your pictures from the Grand Floridian were beautiful! It looked like such a great evening! Love the pic of you and DH sitting under the umbrella. That is the portrait of vacation right there! That's such a pretty resort too. We spent some time there on this trip as well. It's such a relaxing and gorgeous place.

OHANA!!!! One of my very favorite words! I'm so glad you liked it! Even after a 3rd trip and many new restaurants, it's still our favorite. I KNEW your DH would love it. It is a very manly feast! I can't believe you thought the noodles and broccoli were funky. :confused3 I love those noodles, especially with a little bit of the peanut sauce on them. Now the potstickers I could see you being iffy about though. I like them, but I can see how they wouldn't be for everyone. Do you think you will want to eat there again?

I couldn't help but laugh through your AK update. I'll never understand how Dinosaur could be anyone's favorite ride! Funny how people can be so different. I wouldn't even walk by the sign this time. :rotfl2:

You got some great pics on the SoA. I've never seen that area without the Osbourne Lights already being up. It looks a lot better without them. We also couldn't go in the areas that you did b/c they were roped off b/c of the lights.

Can't wait to hear what you thought of Starring Rolls. We ate there too this time.

I loved reading about your DHS morning! We have never really explored the Streets of America, but I plan to when we are there tomorrow!!! I am so excited I can't stand it. Our flight takes off tomorrow at 6AM, so we are leaving the house at 3:45!:scared1: it should be interesting getting the girls up tomorrow, but at least there is a good reason for getting up early!

I will hopefully be able to check in while we are away, but if not, have a good week! We will be back on the 17th!

Congrats on the job, that is awesome news!:cool1:

I can't believe you don't like Dinosaur though! :scared1: And here I thought we had so much in common!! Your cruise report is what I'm basing my decision on.......No pressure or anything though.....:rolleyes1

Hmmm......I'm not quite sure how to take that! ;) But I will gladly accept being confused for Jodi! So JoBird, do you think she's giving us a subtle hint? I think I have been the guilty instigator lately! :guilty:

Back on topic now......I love the DHS update. :thumbsup2 That first pic of your boys sitting on the fence is great! They look so cute, and the backdrop is perfect.

Y'all were really fortunate to have such low crowds and able to get on the rides with no wait. Did it get busier as the day went on? That is weird about the backlot tour not taking audience participants. :confused3 DD and DS were picked last time we were there.

Cute pic of you with the "Singin' in the Rain" umbrella. :umbrella:

 You know I'm just teasing you guys!! I love you both!

I think I sent you that picture of the boys that morning!

It didn't get too much more crowded that day. But it did get hotter. :scared1:

Now that you mention it, I think you did! But if you saw my phone, you would understand how I didn't recognize it. I have not joined the smart phone club, so the pics I get in texts are about the size of my little fingernail. :sad2:

I guess the heat had one positive effect - it was too hot so people stayed by their pools instead of going to the parks!

How did you like Starring Rolls?

Aw you are too nice! I sure missed all my dis friends while I was gone.

We do have lots of things in common, but Dinosaur ain't one of them! :rotfl2: And just wait until you see my ride photo from RnRc! :scared1: I am such a ride weenie! :lmao: But seriously, that ride photo is one for the history books. :rolleyes1 When I first saw it, I thought of your picture where you look cool as a cucumber and are doing the RnR sign. Mine on the other hand, looks more like I am being chased by Freddie Cruger with a bloody chainsaw. I rode it once... I'm done!

Wow, seriously no pressure there! ;) Well, one thing is for sure... I'm going to be honest with my review of the cruise. It was 90% off the charts fabulous, and the other 10%, well, you'll have to wait and find out. :upsidedow

We liked Starring Rolls. DH got the turkey sandwich and DD and I got the ham. His was way better than ours. Next time we will all get the turkey. The ham was just too bland. It didn't have any kind of sauce or dressing on it. The turkey sandwich had a really good sauce on it that made it much better. I got the famous butterfinger cupcake too. It was very good, but I don't even think the Yeti could eat a whole one. That thing was enormous and sooooooo sweet. I took about 3 bites and that was all I could handle.
