From time to time, I've seen threads here on working for Disney, though they seem to be mostly from college students or folks who might work part time at the Disney Store, for example.

I'm seeking feedback or information on careers with Disney. At the moment, I have a great job with a major computer company (hint - it's not Microsoft) but it comes with long hours and stress. I actually like it because it enables my wife to stay at home and homeschool our kids and still take a nice, annual vacation.

Still, I think about changing from time to time. Recently, I saw an IT job with DCL. I believe they were looking for someone to maintain the shore to ship data comm systems, but I never pursued it.

What's it like having a career with Disney? Good benefits? Do you feel you're paid is in line with the rest of the jobs in your industry? Is it possible for a professional to get in the door? (I have 15 years experience.) Most importantly, does it take away from the "magic"?

Thanks,
Sam

I don't know how much I can answer this for you - But I live 15 minutes away from Disneyland, so some of my friends work for Disney as well as friends spouses -

I do not know salary - I do know that the salary would not be the best of what your field could probably offer you - But the benefits are excellant! Ones that I know are happy with their job and enjoy what they do -

Just check into it - If you don't like what they offer you, don't take it - what have you got to lose?

smchan, It's kind of funny, I saw the same job and thought about it. I really like the company I am working with, they've been good to me, but it sure would be fun to work for Disney. I kind of have the same misgivings as you though. I imagine Disney is a very popular place to work so they don't have to pay as well as most other companies to attract people. I imagine pay there would be at the bottom of the scale for the same work because you are working for the mouse. But I have no firsthand knowledge. Like you I didn't pursue it.

Our daughter has worked for Disney for almost 5 years: No way would she live 5,000 miles from home on six-monthly contracts if she didnt enjoy the perks! The money isnt wonderful and its hard work, but my goodness the climate sure beat cold, damp English winters! Apart from the usual "niggles" regarding any workplace, then Disney have been very good to her.................. (and us, as you cant beat discounted holidays in DisneyWorld/Disney Cruiseline)! Of course we miss her dreadfully, but hey............... those holidays are BLISS! Nat:Pinkbounc

Hey there :D Have you checked out disneycareers.com there is some information there along with job openings. I want to work for Pixar some day, someday........Good-luck in your job hunt!

I've been a cast member at the studio for 8 years now. Benefits are good, salary is good though I believe other studios are better. My favorite perk is the silver pass, but aside from that, a job is a job really. When I'm at the office, its not like I think.."oh, I'm so lucky I work for the mouse!" KWIM?

Good Luck in whatever you decide

A guy I worked with at a large southeastern phone company, had just come from working at WDW. He was in the technical field and enjoyed it, untill the cutbacks that resulted in several of his team being let go. So, I guess it is just like working anywhere else.
