A Disney-addicted mom: Disney cruise, Family trip, Running trips! *Update 2/18*

August Family Trip
I haven't posted much about our August trip because it's not 100% that we're going. I really believe I'll find a way to make it happen. I've paid our taxes in full but some was on credit card so I want to make a huge dent in that before I fork over cash for Disney. On the other hand my kids have had a difficult year and I think the more family vacation time we have together, the better. They're only young once!
I haven't done ANY planning in terms of parks but I have dinner ADRs for every night:

Saturday, 8/25 5:40pm Cape May Cafe (We've never eaten here for dinner and I'm excited to try the Clam Bake!)
Sunday, 8/26 6pm Teppan Edo (NOT my favorite at all. We have a local hibachi place that is cheaper and better but my kids LOVE this place and insisted. What we do for love....)
Monday, 8/27 5:45pm Via Napoli (I love Via Napoli. I love the salad that you can get with the pizza. I love the atmosphere.)
Tuesday, 8/28 8:15pm Flying Fish Cafe (We're sitting at the Chef's Table for date night!)
Wednesday, 8/29 6:30pm Akhershus (Jessica MUST have a princess dinner or major tantrums ensue. She loves this one.)
Thursday, 8/30 6pm Bluezoo (We took the family here in January - the night before my marathon - and the kids loved it. Jessica says it's one of her very favorite restaurants at Disney World. Who am I to argue?)
Friday, 8/316:30pm Garden Grill (This has become our classic last night at Disney dinner. The character interaction is the among the best I've ever seen and we have happy memories of eating here. This will be our 3rd annual last night dinner at Garden Grill!)

Amanda

Love your ADRs! I think I'm gonna miss eating at Disney the most:laughing:
We love FF, Garden Grill, Teppan Edo, Via Napoli, and Cape May!!!

Amanda~ not sure if you got any suggestions for the dinner yet. We got back from our trip Sun. night and with working now it's been hard catching up.
We ate at Rose & Crown on the patio and watched Illuminations right after our dinner. It was fantastic!!! This was the second time we did this.

Sorry to hear about your puppy, hope she's feeling better. We love our black lab too! We were devistated when our yellow lab died of cancer 5 yrs. ago.

We had a nice vacation last week but my DH and DS14 told me they were sick of Disney and don't want to go next year
This coming from the man that did ALL the planning for our trips until a year ago. I don't know what I'm gonna do. I am already depressed. :sad1:

Thank you for the good thoughts for Buffy! We're still not sure what's going on. :sad1:
We've never eaten at Rose & Crown so that's a good suggestion. I was leaning towards La Hacienda since we love it but maybe it's time to try something new.
Sorry that your family doesn't understand that Disney is a necessary part of life!

We've been and enjoy going in August for the low crowds as well!!:thumbsup2
We have followed TP before especially for spring break trips. But with August crowds I don't think you'll have to change anything just do what you want when you want!:yay: That's why August trips are so great.

That's so true! We went for one day during our recent Vero Beach trip and the crowd levels were a 10. We needed to have a plan to navigate the crowds. That's rarely an issue in August. I mean you still need to get to DHS early if you want FPs for TSM but other than that...

Love your ADRs! I think I'm gonna miss eating at Disney the most:laughing:
We love FF, Garden Grill, Teppan Edo, Via Napoli, and Cape May!!!

Poor you! :flower3:
How about you start doing runDisney races and we can be roommates on race weekends??? :lmao:

A quick life update. No news on Buffy. Her bowels are still messed up. Sometimes she eats and sometimes she doesn't. We're still not sure what's wrong with her.
I had a great run on Tuesday night and then a very mediocre run tonight. Although in retrospect night's run was better than it seemed. :confused3 I'll try to get between 3-5 miles done this weekend. My 10k isn't until June so I have some time.
I gave a really well-received lecture at Blythedale Children's Hospital today. It's a really amazing facility that is a chronic care facility for children. (Think Nursing Home/Rehab - the physical kind - for sick children.) They recently did major renovations and the facility is spectacular. It was nice to have such a positive response to my lecture, especially since it was a lot of work to prepare.
Believe it or not, I started to think about future trips - not necessarily to Disney World. We have our 2012-13 school calendar so I want to start researching possibilities for February break and/or Spring Break. It's nice to have a plan so I can get less expensive airfare during those peak times. So many of the places we'd like to go are SO expensive. I looked at Atlantis, Beaches Turks and Caicos, Disney Cruises, etc. It really makes Disney look affordable!!!

Congratulations on the successful lecture!

Keep your eyes open in the Fall and early Winter for specials - a lot of places put out some really great deals during that time of year. We've been to Atlantis without the kiddos - back in 2001 - and it was fantastic. (I won $750 on the slot machine using my last quarter! :thumbsup2) Anyway, just keep your options open and routinely check the websites for some good promotions and deals - very worth the wait! :goodvibes

Sounds like a plan
Guess I better start training. I haven't done any running since college

I still have hope though. They told me it's not that they never wanna go back they just need a break.

Start training now and you'll be ready for the 1/2 marathon by January! :thumbsup2 :lmao:
At least they aren't giving up Disney completely and forever.

Remember how I warned that I sometimes disappear for a while? :lmao: Life has happened recently. Nothing bad (well Buffy isn't completely better so that's bad) but I've been super busy. I ran 4.38 miles on Saturday and then decided to attack some hills on Monday. The hills definitely won that battle. :rotfl: Work has been busy. Not bad. Just busy. But I have some trip-planning news.
For starters I submitted my proposed vacation days for the next 12 months and was basically told YES. :cool1: This is good news. I'm taking the week of the cruise. The last week in August. The Friday and Monday of ToT race weekend. The Friday and Monday of Marathon Weekend. Plus, Rosh Hashanah (2 days) and Yom Kippur (1 day). And the week of President's Week. AND we might consider a trip to Disney or a land/sea deal for President's Week. Which could mean that I might actually get to run the Princess Half Marathon. :cloud9:

ToT Weekend
Lots of exciting news for ToT Weekend.
1. WDW Today Podcast is sponsoring an UNTENT FEST on Friday afternoon at Fort Wilderness. Details to follow but I'm sure it'll be a blast!
2. Lou Mongello is sponsoring some really cool Adventurer's Club-like even at the American Pavilion on Friday night from 7-10pm. Tickets were quite pricey but my roommate and I agreed that it was a once-in-a-lifetime event and we both bought tickets (along with a group of Twitter friends).
3. Team Studios Central (my virtual running team) is having lunch at 1pm on Saturday.
4. Supposedly there is a D23 event on Sunday but I don't know details yet.
5. Monday is the 30th anniversary of Epcot.

Oh yeah and I'm running a 10 mile race on Saturday night followed by a cool after-party.

Doesn't that sound like a magical weekend??? I'm SO psyched!

50 DAYS UNTIL WE ARRIVE IN FLORIDA FOR OUR CRUISE!!!!

My baby turned FOUR this week. I updated my signature to reflect his new big-boy age. :( He's very sweet! His birthday party is this weekend at his tae kwon do place. Hopefully it's a fun party for everyone!
Super busy work week which means I've done little running this week. I did some hill repeats on Monday evening but that's about it. I have a 6 mile run scheduled for the morning.

My new passport arrived yesterday! I was very happy to see it! And I was a little surprised by how quickly it came. I debated paying extra for express service and I'm very glad I didn't. I think it took less than 4 weeks! I did send it overnight express but they say to send your old passport by "traceable" means anyway. :confused3 At least that's done!
They've posted the schedule of DIS activities on the ship. We'll probably only do a few things because we have the kids with us. I think the dance party on deck the 1st day sounds like fun. And I really want Nathaniel to go to the talk by the 2 artists who will be on board. I want to run the Castaway Cay 5k - not that it's a DIS activity. I think we may have to skip the podcast recording because I don't think the kids will be interested. But we'll see. I haven't looked at old Navigators to see what other activities we'll like...
I also need to book our pre-cruise dinner. I'm thinking we should try the newly refurbishment Tutto Italia. Or whatever it's called now. I'd love to try the wine bar but I'm not sure that's appropriate with kids. ;)

Goofy Update
After some discussion with Tom and the kids, it looks like I'll be going down for Marathon Weekend by myself. My parents may or may not come with me. If my parents are coming, I'll probably try to get a discount on a regular room at GF because it was SO convenient for my parents to watch me run by. It's a very short walk from the main building to the road. My mom has mobility issues so this is important. And my parents will probably pay part of the room cost so that will keep the overall cost down.
If I go solo, I don't know what to do. I could probably find a roommate through my runDisney friends and see where they want to stay. Otherwise I'm not sure. :confused3 With 2 very early races in 2 days, convenience plays a role. I'd love to stay monorail because it's faster and easier. Or should I stay at like POR and rent a car? I've always wanted to check out WL or AKL? I'm going down Friday morning (I figure I'll take a 6:30am flight to get me used to the early mornings - or I could fly down Thursday night late?) and flying home late on Monday.
Opinions? Thoughts? Advice?

Podcast Cruise
I'm going to try this color and see if it's any easier to read.
I made an executive decision NOT to make my own autograph books because I found some on Etsy that were essentially the same price as making it myself. And he'll customize the covers, etc. I'm also ordering cruise magnets with our names on them. We haven't decided yet about pirate t-shirts.
SEVEN weeks from today we'll be boarding the Disney Dream for the 1st time!!!

Zachary's birthday party is today. 18 four year olds take on tae kwon do. It should be interesting. He chose a Batman cake. I still need to put together the goody bags. Nothing big. I tried to keep it simple this time. :thumbsup2 His preschool is a daycare so it's a little more diverse than our town. Which means the parties are slightly less over-the-top ridiculous. I tried to stick with that instead of the insanity that we see sometimes.
Buffy's hanging in there. Still struggling to poop sometimes and still having lots of accidents in the house (which is exhausting to clean up!). But she's eating better so I'm hopeful.

Amanda

glad to hear about Buffy.
sorry I can't really help with the race room decisions- but I wish I had those problems.... I'd go back in a heart beat!!:rotfl:

Thanks for the good thoughts for Buffy.
I know that I'm spoiled with my trips. :thumbsup2

Thanks for the updates.

I was wondering how your presentation went. Sounds like it was very successful. :thumbsup2

I'm continuing to send positive thoughts about Buffy :dog:

I wouldn't worry too much about touring plans in August. You know what you are doing!

Your cruise is getting so close! I can't wait to hear about it.

Another suggestion for non-Disney trips is the Barcelo Maya or another all-inclusive resort in the Riviera Maya. About an hour south of Cancun, lots of interesting excursions in the area, most of them have kids clubs and activities and the beaches are gorgeous.

Zachary's birthday party was great! Really well done. The tae kwon do teacher is awesome with the kids! And Zachary got a lot of really thoughtful presents - including an adorable Mickey Mouse backpack.
Tom took Nathaniel to see Avengers this weekend. I love Joss Whedon so it made me sad to miss it. The younger kids and I saw The Pirates: Band of Midfits. Mediocre at best.

With that in mind I just read that they are currently showing Avengers on the Dream - and likely will still be showing it for our cruise! :cool1: AND...we might get to see Brave on the ship. It's being released that weekend and they often show newly released Disney films. Yay me!

I remember your gorgeous pics from Mexico. I should look into that. It's always harder with 3 kids. :crazy2: At least we all have passports now.
Buffy is far from out of the woods but at least she's eating. When a black lab refuses food it's time to worry!

Glad to hear the party went well! :goodvibes

Sorry you missed Avengers, I'm thinking of going just b/c I love Joss too, not b/c I think I will like the movie! :p Not sure if that's a good enough reason to go see it!

Glad to hear you are running Goofy! I guess you'll have to see if your parents are coming first and then choose your resort, sounds like it will depend on that. I've given up most hope of running at all. My feet are not better and anytime I walk too much they flare up. I was pretty disappointed about it, but I have to focus on the things I CAN do, not the things I cannot.

Speaking of that...I will GLADLY test out the Tutto wine cellar in November when Rey and I go! I'll let you know how it is. ;)

Yay for another Joss Whedon fan! Buffy is one of my favorite shows ever!
I'm sorry you're in so much pain.
That's awesome that you get to try Tutto! It sounds awesome.

46 DAYS!

We head back to sunny Florida in less than 7 weeks for our cruise. I still need to order Fish Extender gifts. I signed us up for TWO separate FEs (apparently the Podcast group didn't want to mingle with the non-Podcast group and I felt bad for the non-Podcast group so I ended up doing both). We need gifts for over 200 people. :scared1: I'm going simple on this one because the cost will be prohibitive otherwise. We're ordering 2 things from Oriental Trading and giving them both to everyone. That's it! I would have gotten nicer things or something different for adults and children but I can't deal with the sheer numbers.

I'm worrying a lot about the Goofy. I missed a run last week but mostly my running is going well. I worry about losing motivation and focus. I'm strongly considering signing up for Jeff Galloway E-coaching. I could really use the extra support. There isn't a Galloway group near me - the closest one is in NYC - and this would be a way to continue my Galloway training with some help.
I'm still undecided on a hotel for Marathon Weekend. This week I'm leaning towards YC but then I read some bad stories about some of the buses from last year and I'm wondering about the Poly or another monorail resort. The Poly has the wonderful advantage of being walking distance to both monorails. What to do???
