It took me awhile to finish Pillars as well. It's sooo long and wordy. I love it though.

I'm back again looking for book suggestions for my DD15 - ya'll gave us some great suggestions this summer.
Her English teacher is telling her she needs to read more challenging materials - something a teacher can tell her but her mom doesn't know what she is talking about. Oh well.
All suggestions are welcome - she loved Harry Potter, Twlight series, Lord of the Rings (has not finished all three)
I recently read Goodbye Glamour Gals
on my Kindle. It is the story of women pilots during WWII. I really enjoyed it and it was only $1.99--totally worth the price. I don't know if the book has been printed or not, I can only find it for the Kindle on Amazon. Hope everyone is enjoying some good reads!![]()

Happy Thanksgiving Katherine (and John).
I just finished The Lost Symbol. I hated the ending. HATED IT!
Reading The Monster of Florence now. It's about an Italian serial killer.
A buit gruesome....but it takes place in and around Florence, Italy, so I'm willing to take the gruesome to get the Florence.
Ok, my two favorite books this summer are: (1) Moloka'i by Alan Brennert (it's about a 6 year old girl in Honolulu that is diagnosed with leprosy and is forced to leave her family and move to the island Molokai which is a leper colony. (2) The Thirteeenth Tale by Diane Setterfield - this one keeps you guessing until the end. I couldn't put either book down!
I am in the exact same place you are! I want a Kindle so bad but I have a huge pile of books to get through and I love going to the library and bookstores!
I love threads like this because it opens up new books to read. I usually go to the LA Festival of Books just so I can go to the author lectures to find new authors to read.
I am finishing up a David Baldacci book, The Collectors, (nothing too exciting but entertaining) now and then I'm going to read Peter and the Starcatchers...I just bought The Time Traveler's Wife this weekend but I have been promising DBF's 15 yo DD that I'd read Peter so that is next.
This is a fun thread - thanks for starting it!
Thanks for the thread shout-out on the podcast, Kevin! Hopefully we can get some new book club "members"!!
I just finished "Waiter Rant", which made me think of you with your dining reviews. Have you read it?
